  1. Hi Guys I have just spent a good while looking through all the photos on this thread. What superb stuff. I spent a lot (too much according to exam results!) of time early 80s shuttling back and forth between Arbroath, Monifieth (Home),Dundee, Perth, Edinburgh and all between. I just wish I had photographed it all! Particularly like all the photos of Dundee where I spent a lot of time with my mate Kenny and the gang. Drinking tea in the buffet........extracting Nestle chocolates from platform machines (bit of an addiction to the red bars!!)....listening for Deltics on the bridge or tunnel....locals from Perth.....Sigh! Still great memories Keep the photos coming please Chris
  2. Hi Mikkel Yes they are the ones from International models. I used them on my old layout too. Easy to use and trim with hot blade and available in grey as well. Only downside is if your layout is portable they need to be protected when moving as they can be damaged fairly easily. Perfect for a home based layout. They can also be used on reasonable curves very easily. Come well packaged and are good value with straights and left and right slopes and a plain brick sheet too. Chris
  3. Cheers Jon I am looking forward to seeing 60009 when she returns as well. Lights, fire box glow, seuthe smoke generator and DCC Sound fitted....... Then onto my bench for re numbering to 60009 and Union of South Africa nameplates which are waiting patiently. Will be a few weeks as Jason is very busy at moment but will be very much worth the wait. chris
  4. Hi all Now that A4 60009 is off to Jason's workshop to be 're boilered' and a light safety inspection, thought to powering her when she comes back has gone on a pace. Two coal wagons have been purchased ( thanks for posters who helped) and filled with coal. (the real stuff of course....) They have now arrived at Glasburgh and will be ready to fill her up when she returns in a few weeks. Actually, it is the first time I have bought and filled a wagon for....well.....longer than I care to remember. Sure my brother will let out the secret. If I recall I 'acquired' some of his somewhat sponge like fake coal! A new shed will be ordered or built. I think I will have to build this myself as funds are limited and I want it to look similar to the shed she sat in at Markinch for years. Wooden sides etc. Still, I think the wagons look not bad after a bit of weathering etc. At least the coal looks convincing!
  5. ooops forgot to mention they will be fitted with internal lights as well. They are to be static on a bridge over station. just need to...buy more leds....take buses apart again....solder.......
  6. Ah well , think he needs to go on a diet as well!!! The other ones are, when finished, to represent two Tayside Region buses. These were the Dundee Council owned buses. Prior to this new livery they were all over green. Tricky bit is getting transfers for the Tayside Region logos. (have someone doing these for me on waterslide transfer sheets) Think they will look quite good when proper transfers put on and weathered. These buses often looked pretty grubby particularly in winter. Just another part of re living my youth!!! See http://themunicipals.fotopic.net/c1229797.html if you are interested. I am awaiting a Volvo Ailsa in London red to re livery in similar colours. These were very common and the mainstay of the fleet by about 1980 I think. Chris
  7. I have started to make some progress towards getting the layout buses in the guise I remember from 1980. Still work to be done on the TRC Blue buses (temporary Destinations and signs ) but they are beginning to look like their prototypes!
  8. Hi On a similar theme....picture the scene....my mother and father living in a bedsit type flat in a tenement in Dundee's Blackness Road (not the best then) sharing an outside toilet with two other flats. Feb 7th 1964 and hours after my birth my father went out and bought a Hornby Triang DMU!! I am told he survived the fallout...only just Never too young mate!! Chris
  9. hi Jon Cheers. I am sure you will get one before long. It would be daft of them not to use the full range of liveries available for each moulding. keep up the good work on your Deltics. They look stunning. happy New Year to you too. Chris
  10. Well, Santa was kind after all and the parcels made it through our frozen lands! First a new refuelling point (Knitwing kit) which I added lights to at construction stage. Still to weather the roof but looks good. Diesels can now fill up and off load! They wouldn't get far on two off loading points! My Class 31 visited Jason to have lights fitted to cabs and an all Blue Cravens unit now looks good with its Perth destination blind. (not a bad effort even I do say so myself!) Will have to do something about the interior lights and brighten them a bit.
  11. Hi Jon That looks great. Again I wish I had your patience and skill. Have a good time over New Year. Chris
  12. The overbridge that is over the platforms on the raised section of Glasburgh was primarily to hide the fact that the sidings are very short and can only display DMUs or part of a train. These are static with power to the rails so that coach lighting can be fitted and DCC sound loco can sit idling. However, a side product of this gives me an opportunity to have some road vehicles on this. To this end I have collected over the last 6-8 months a few suitable buses. Like the TMD itself these are to be the ones I used and remember from the period circa 1980. Two of the buses purchased were suitable as released. However to get Tayside Region Buses I have had to dismantle and repaint a couple. I have also had to repaint the Alexander Y type as these single deckers in the correct livery go for daft money. Here are the prototype pictures I am using to refresh the memories. I would be interested to hear of any buses anyone else has altered. I will post pictures of the buses as they come out of the 'works paintshop!' Chris
  13. My short stay in hospital passed successfully and my arm is on the mend finally! I have some time to kill at home. I had been doing some work with carriage lighting before surgoens stopped play. I have put lighting inside a mark 1 full brake and am quite pleased with the results. I have also added carriage lighting to my two Bachmann Pullman coaches. The table lights were just not quite enough and I think they now look much better. Steam power has arrived at Glasburgh. On shed is Hornby A4 Falcon which is shortly to race off to Jasons to have lights, sound and a smoke generator fitted. On return the transformation to A4 Union of South Africa will be completed. Douglas (taybridge) and I enjoyed a few visits to this loco at the RAF Leuchars Air Displays when were young and our father queued with us to get us up to the footplate. Our only live experience of a Steam loco living and breathing steam! I can just about justify her existence at Glasburgh as she was kept at Markinch in those days near the home of her owner Mr Cameron
  14. Yip Cap'n Got agree those level crossing gates look excellent set well within the other detail you have created. The trackwork looks great too Chris
  15. Hi all Must admit I think they are all mad too. Some of these daft bids are people bidding up their own stuff under another name to inflate prices. Totally not allowed but difficult to prove. I also always check with Hattons first if looking for stuff. There are some good sellers who have E Bay shops with stuff at fixed prices. That seems to be quite good and often saves me money. However, I would never buy something costing a lot unless I had dealt with them before. I always check their feedback too. If in doubt. forget it. I have sold and bought stuff for my boat there and grabbed the odd bargain but these are becoming scarce. I put Eberspacher heater in my boat and did a few for other people in harbour and got a tidy profit. Now these things are selling for more second hand than I can buy them new with 2 year warranty. Nuts! Agree with earlier poster...'fools and money.......' I just wish I could wander into the old Brain Sherriff shop in Dundee, watch the layout for ten minutes or so, look at a few things out of their box and then buy. Alas long gone:( Still there is always E Bay.....and You Tube! Chris
  16. Hi Jon I think this is going to be the most technically correct 00 gauge Deltic ever. It will look excellent when you have painted and weathered it I reckon! Chris:)

Hi Wil lovely looking layout. Very impressive within building timescale. well done. As for the training....never mind that Jon...how on earth did you persuade her to operate the thing in the first place Wil???? 10/10 Mate Chris
  18. Hi James She looks perfect. Just enough weathering to look real and great attention to detail. well done (all you need now is a nice Howes sound chip.....) Chris
  19. Looks spot on to me! Boats and trains......perfect:rolleyes: Chris
  20. Hi Jon Looking good.Know what you mean about eyesight too! For first time ever I had found it difficult to read small printed adverts that Hattons put in the magazine. Have now got reading glasses. This coupled with four recent grandchildren (far too young ..surely) will give me the excuse to be...deaf when required.......absent minded when required...make impulsive purchases when required ......etc not all bad then! Keep up the good work Jon. Your Deltics always put a smile on my face. great memories! chris
  21. Is that you sneaking your Ford Capri in there? Track looking good. Chris
  22. Post Script to above. Had you thought of a Spitfire on a lorry? They were sometimes moved on a lorry with the wings off and down the side of the fuselage when going for repair. May be easier to fit on like this? Chris
  23. Hi looks good indeed. A very interesting theme with perhaps the excuse for a Spitfire somewhere? I trust after all your hard work you are not going to blow the hanger up a la Battle of Britain film?? Actually a quick look at the film may give some ideas for detailing. I remember the Airfix RAF personnel well. I had a box of them when I got an home made airfield for Christmas. Lots of useful figures. Keep posting pics please B) Chris
  24. Hi Will vale and Paul S Spitfire mk 4 eh? Always fancied a Triumph Spitfire or Stag. Lucky you. Mind you from always liking the look of them I bought a Rover 75 (modern one!) 3 years ago and I would hate now to change. Paul-a Morris 8. They were a great vintage for cars. 18 years ago I bought a half put back together Austin 10 (1946). rewired it etc and made afair bit when I sold it. Very different driving. Wire brakes, no heating great fun though. Would like to see picture of your model. Any more out there.....?
  25. Come on guys... let's have some photos Chris PS Have added a daylight photo to give better idea of my......hmmm Reliant Sand Gold!
