  1. But someone has suggested that the Code 100 and Code 75 points are different, but that the templates are the same. No idea if it makes any difference, but AFAIK all Peco 16.5mm track is flat bottom Ed
  2. Morning all. Download 55Mb/s, upload 2.7Mb/s. I have no idea what that means, or if it's any good (virgins), but I noticed that the upload speed decreased steadily during the test-it was over 5 at the start. Any comments? Ed
  3. On their way to a welding? Ed
  4. Morning all. I've had an automatic for two years now and still feel out of control when reversing. I have tried left-foot braking but that didn't go well! I now annoy other people waiting for the "old git" in the camper to carry out his reversing manouever (sp?). Ed
  5. If the angles are different, and you make a cross-over with a short and a long radius point, surely the straight bit of the points won't be parallel? Ed
  6. Good morning all. I am now feeling rather stupid, having got my US bridges mixed up yesterday. My first thoughts were correct, the Tacoma Narrows bridge (Galloping Gertie) is nowhere near New York, but I got it mixed up with the Verrazano Narrows bridge in Ian's photo of NY at night. As to the rugby, I don't think the problem was the Ref's wrong decision so much as his behaviour afterwards, Extraordinary! Ed
  7. I hadn't realised that "Galloping Gertie" was so close to NYC. I guess that's why there were people on hand to film its demise. Ed
  8. Without wishing to stir up a hornets' nest, did you consider the RMWeb adverts? Ed
  9. Morning all. I too regret the passing of the bacon rhind. My only memory of my maternal grandfather is of him having his breakfast in bed (where he spent all his time by then), and giving me his bacon rhind which I remember as being delicious. Pork scratchings are not in the same league. Ed
  10. I wish you well with the claim. Panoramic roofs (reef?) are specifically excluded from some policies. Ed
  11. It could be argued that it's not really yours Bob. Ed
  12. News Update. The very nice RAC man succeeded in getting all four locking bolts off the van while I was making the tea! I am a much happier bunny. Ed
  13. Good thing I went to check my tyre pressures this morning, the tread on the front r/h Michelin was making a bid for freedom. Went to my tyre man (not been for two years now) and, of course, his advice, correctly, was to change all the tyres due to age. The van is 6 years old, the tyres 7. Done 21000. I've never liked Michelins, am going for Kumho this time. BUT I couldn't find the adaptor for the bl66dy locking wheel bolts! I haven't needed it in the time I've had the van, and thought I knew where it was. The tyre man said it's a VW dealer job, I'm sure I have seen "universal" ones. Anyway I'm now waiting for a very nice man from the RAC to turn up. Hopefully we can at least change to worst one for the spare. When I get these bas****s off I'm going to throw them away. Like most anti-theft devices I'm sure they inconvenience the owner more than the thief. How long would it take a determined tea-leaf to get the wheels off if he wanted to? Ed who probably won't be able to afford his 0 Gauge train set now
  14. Is it true that US Postal delivery vans are right-hand drive so they can put the post in the box without getting out of the van? Ed
  15. Pedant mode on/ surely that is weed killer rather than railhead treatment?/pedant mode off. Ed refers to blazey(29) which confuses me more cos it's Falmouth
  16. Thanks for the link to the video. The rod drive loco's are attractive, and they seem to handle a pretty steep gradient. Ed
  17. Good afternoon everyone. I've been to 'Emel 'Empstead to see a doctor. I was moved from the waiting area to "short" wait and a young porter sat next to me He was a pleasant lad and, after wishing me a good morning, nodded to my "big slipper" and asked if it was coming off today. When I informed him that I was there for my arm he was defeated! Ed Sorry Rick, that's really trivial after your news which appeared whilst I was typing.
  18. I was just wondering whether the less well among us are aware that NHS prescriptions are free for over-60's, diabetics and other lifetime illnesses, but that if you do have to pay you can buy a "season ticket" for a year such that if you need more than 12 in a year this is cheaper. Ed
  19. So it was a Mazda engine in the NSU Horse? Ed
  20. Morning all. I think that global warming must be real, judging by the amount of gentlemen wearing shorts on crisp Autumn days. Not me-my legs are too ugly and too fragile. Ed
  21. Not sure Mike can accurately be described as "on" the footplate. Ed
  22. I kind of thought it already was. Ed
  23. Morning all. Tony, what would "academic offences" be? I don't think I was aware of any in 25+ years teaching. Ed
  24. Some of those had really tiny engines-360cc? and some had the powerful600, People even put motor caravan bodies on the 360. We exaggerate the need for power in the UK, go to Italy and see the 50cc Ape trikes struggling up really steep hills fully overloaded with two fat Italians on board. Ed
