  1. Nice photo's of the W & L. After however many years I do wish they would get some more appropriate carriages, although I have no right to complain as I haven't contributed to the railway for a very long time. Night all Ed
  2. Is it fitting a decoder to a narrow gauge loco? Ed
  3. I remain astonished that nobody has done a 14xx yet. Is it because of problems getting the chassis balanced and able to go round silly corners? Ed
  4. Like he said, it's a new version. It's got rods, so is more likely to be acceptable to steam lovers. Ed
  5. So it's not just Furness and it's not just wagons-go figure. You may get repeat trade, and that's good, but I'd suggest you need new customers, so IMHO you need a new name. Ed
  6. I will only use carpet suppliers where the fitter is directly employed by the shop. Having had a problem in the past where the shop blamed the fitter and vice versa. Most self-employed carpet fitters are of such a build that I would not want to argue with them. It seems to me that when you look at modern carpets there is a choice of many shades of plain beige. The younger fitters cannot cope with the geometric complexities of what I call "proper" carpet. Ed
  7. Hi guys. Thought I'd drop in and see what you were talking about. It would appear to be a load of sh1te! Will visit again soon Best wishes Ed
  8. More than one version of that model I believe. Ed
  9. The problem is that the US place names sound so good, and are familiar from songs. How many of you can name this song: I remember still the day We motored sweetly into big LA ? No cheating! Ed
  10. Too late Stewart! The Poly's all converted many years ago, followed by most of the "colleges of technology". The poor old FE colleges did their best to join in by becoming "associated" with the Uni's and offering various starter course, foundation courses and the like. Falling standards? Nah. Ed
  11. Hi Tex and brilliant to see you back. Congrats on the grandchild and the move, commiserations on the emphysema. My Mum suffered from it increasingly over the last 15 years of her life. She was a stubborn goat and wouldn't give up. lived halfway up a big hill but never got a taxi home. She did get an Oxygen bottle but refused to use it-"I'm all right". She did give up the fags when she had a mastectomy on the grounds that if the medic's had done that much for her it was the least she could do. Still wanted one though! Any way, I'm welling up so I'll say-never give up and welcome back, we have missed you. Ed
  12. Has it got wider? Ed. 61, Peco code 100, member of the Flat Earth Society.
  13. Well done Nidge. My Midget was first registered Jan 1st 1972, so fairly obviously was built in '71. I had no problem getting her registered as historic but what I am concerned about is the "originality" regulations coming up. She has been re-shelled, had Gold Seal engine and gearbox but both arr now made of parts from different sources, all of which are, of course, pre-'73. Trigger's broom in other words! She's SORN'd at present as I can't drive her in my big slipper I have to wear for now. I do miss zipping around with the top down. Ed
  14. Hi Jock. I don't know about Blackpool (never been there), but my home town of Newquay certainly matches your description. I wouldn't go back if it wasn't for my family connections and childhood memories. There was a TV programme recently about the decline of the British seaside resort, the one which really surprised me was Jaywick which is now one of the most deprived areas in the UK and resembles a South African shanty town. Forty-something years ago (!) a good friend of mine was doing his Teacher Training at Clacton. His "halls" in the first year were an ex-hotel, and very nice too with the original bar but SU prices. In the second year he and some friends took a bungalow in Jaywick, I remember it as an OK place. On car finance I agree with you on PCP deals. When my son bought a "nearly new" car recently the garages kept pushing them. It seemed to me that you paid a lot up front, a lot each month and a **** of a lot at the end before you owned it provided it complied with all sorts of criteria such as mileage and condition. In other words a way to "afford" something you can't afford. Ed
  15. Filled with what? Trains or motorbikes? Ed
  16. Morning all. I've googled sea monkeys and am still none the wiser! Anyway, good news from Jock and a better start to the day. Off to see the podiatrists in a while, my lovely Diabetes nurse is on holiday this week so I expect the doctor may pop in to say hello. Ed
  17. Tony, you never let go of your kids. My parents helped me until they died; I'd like to think I helped them in return. I'll certainly do all I can for my boys. Ed
  18. Who is Victoria Derbyshire? I had never heard of her until a couple of weeks ago but now she seems to be everywhere. Is it something to do with soaps, reality TV or Twitter as I don't indulge in those things. Ed
  19. Moor Park? @Mike, an echo (short for echocardiogram and not to be confused with an ecg) is basically an ultrasound scan of the heart. It involves removing your shirt and having goo spread on parts of your anatomy. It is done by a specialist technician who will ask you to roll on to your side so she can "see" the right bits with her gadget. I have to say that the pictures meant nowt to me, but then neither did my babyscan pictures of my sons, even when that technician said "there's a leg" etc. In general, getting old is carp, but it's better than the alternative. G'night all and thanks for all the support for my self-pitying post elsewhere. Ed
  20. When my ex was with me we had shopping delivered. I hated it. They always came in the middle of a programme I was watching, and we couldn't keep up with them. There were some hilarious "substitutions" such as lemon washing up liquid when she wanted lemons. I found it very stressful. Besides, I quite like going shopping-how sad is that? Ed
  21. If somebody put forward the idea of a passenger carrying vehicle in which the passengers not only didn't have to wear a seat belt, but could stand, walk about or even ascend/descend stairs whilst said vehicle was in motion, can you imagine the outcry? Ed
  22. It looks as though locked threads are now being deleted, which will meet Martin's objections. Probably a good thing as ( to my shame)they had a magnetic attraction for me. Ed
