  1. I used one of those if there was a bit to do, otherwise knife and ruler. Alan
  2. For the last few years I've been scanning articles of interest as well as sections of reference books. Now with the online versions I either screen print or save the whole page or spread as a pdf. The pages of the new size RM do need trimming to fit the document feed or if necessary done flatbed. Alan
  3. I wonder if a split axle version might be considered. Alan
  4. I prefer these more imaginative names (Gresley Beat, Hills of the North) as opposed to using just the station (usually). Little Blytham could be "Bottom of the Little Hill". Alan
  5. Given that many computers now do not have the facility to play DVDs and so we are increasingly reliant on streaming and downloading Chris Walsh putting these out makes perfect sense. Despite us all being that bit older the content remains useful. Thank you. Alan
  6. In one of the recent line society journals there were examples of questions for clerks' entry and progress examinations which included quite detailed questions about railway geography. Alan
  7. Good that they managed to get both Southern opens in shot. Alan
  8. To add:- in Scotland and, to a lesser degree,Cumbria wagons fitted with cupboard doors were built. I'm not sure but I don't think that difference continued after the 1923 specification. Alan
  9. Even as the standards became more prescriptive there was latitude for differences between builders like the shape of washer plates (strapping), buffer housings, axleboxes and position of plates. Alan
  10. Focussing on wingplates and louvred chimneys I've lost track of the tender variations on this model. I seem to recall long and short versions. Is that still the case with the rear toolbox being removed in HR days. Alan
  11. I did some sums with the 3mph rate and got 45 secs or so for 180 degrees turn by hand. A little longer to allow for getting going and slowing down. Alan
  12. A couple of generations back, our local Laird in Dumfriesshire whose castle had a private siding off the Caley main line was a big fan of hunting with hounds. Maybe more popular in the lowlands. His descendant claimed they had a private carriage kept there, but I'm not convinced. Alan
  13. Hi @Andy Vincent Not wishing to clutter or divert the D299 thread with specifics about your kits I thought resurrecting this thread might be more appropriate. Is there anywhere where the build dates of the various Gloucester wagons you feature can be found? Also, POWSides don't give dimensions for their transfers, so I suspect they're one size only and so not going to be suitable for all three of the lengths you do via Brassmasters. Thanks Alan
  14. I think it's double. There appears to be a peg off for the opposite line in the background. Alan
  15. You'll struggle to find either Avonside or Hobby Holidays versions, although Phil was considering a run of his (HH) if there was sufficient interest. That was a good while ago, so I suspect interest hasn't materialised. I'm not convinced the Poppy's Woodtech Locobox holds things reliably in their correct positions and it seems possible to erect frames out of square if there's any error between the pairs of coupling rods. Alan
  16. In an Edinburgh establishment Jobby Catchers (loose trousers with elasticated ankles) are banned.
  17. When a tyre is changed they rip off the existing weights and dump them, so no need to beg for new. Double sided tape will attach reliably. Alan
  18. No I think @Hal Nail was referencing Magnahesion with tongue firmly planted in cheek. Alan
  19. One definition promoted on Off The Ball was the need to change footwear to participate. Works for most, though not archery and target shooting. Alan
  20. IPA (or almost any alcohol based chemical) is pretty much unobtainable in Turkey, I don't know how the few 3D resin printer folk manage. Alan
  21. The buffers were quite good, as was the whistle, but anything between or below was awful. Alan
  22. RMweb has now been banned in Florida schools. Alan
  23. Ian, you created a lovely, evocative layout and I've missed it during your hiatus last year. Good luck with your next venture. Alan
