  1. Don't you go messing up one of Mr Gresley's wonder-machines!, Just a light blow over of rail dirt below the skirts and a light fall of soot from above is all that is required for a streak. Glenn
  2. I thought it looked a bit thick. Having renamed one or two of these locos myself (!), did you know that Lynton was one of the few WCs to get electrification warning signs. Glenn
  3. What is that below the smokebox on Lynton? Glenn
  4. You do realise you're only person in the world who's changed late crest to early crest, but in this case it had to be done, I suppose ... now to be more accurate, you'll have to renumber the loco as well, as the Hornby numerals are too small. I agree with you that it is nice to get away from the Bulleids now and again then though. I'm feeling very Great Western at the moment; no transfers; no varnishing, heaven! Glenn
  5. Thanks Ian, I am aware of the major etched nameplate manufacturers, I was just wondering who made those for your A2s. I used Fox for Sun Chariot and Hornets Beauty, they are more expensive than the other manufacturers, but have the benefit of true Gill Sans typeface for the etched smokebox door number in stainless steel. On the same subject, I received my Bachmann Peppercorn A2 'Blue Peter' model yesterday, coincidental with the arrival of the nameplates from Fox. Comparison of the etched plates supplied by Bachmann and the Fox versions with photos of those on the original, show the Fox version to be the most accurate. Glenn
  6. Can I ask where you get the etched nameplates and smokebox door numbers from? Glenn
  7. Jim, I'm working on two Schools at present: 30921 and 30933, plus a couple of Castles. My next rebuilt Bulleid for Ebay will be 34048 Crediton, plus originals: 34092, 34007 and 34102 later. I have one Bachmann A2 listed currently (60527 Sun Chariot) and I have another (60535) which has just been renumbered, together with an A4: William Whitelaw, based on Hornby's Woodcock. It's the usual mayhem here, I have about twelve locos (and a coach set or two) in various stages of completion. I think I've done all of the rebuilt Bulleids you mention, certainly 34004 (at least twice) and 34071, but Im not sure about 34089, take a look at my Bulleid gallery for photos of some of my productions over the past few years: http://www.mattingleycustom.com/GalleryBulleid.html I'm pleased you're getting fair reward after the Jag incident; it's good to be busy doing something you enjoy! Glenn
  8. Ah yes that chap with the dove house, never mind you won't get stung again I'm sure. Modified, unmodified, rebuilt, unrebuilt, frankly it does my head in. Anyway that nice Mr Hornby has released the wonderful 34107 and so I'm starting on a 34092 with a small tender (where I've discovered that Hornby can't even match their own BR green colour, by the way), with 34102 to come later I think. Keep up the good work. Glenn
  9. Graham, I did make a start on cutting the rear and sides down on a Hornby A4 tender, but it is now a 'to do' job (along with many others) that may get done some day. Anyway, while researching the modified 1928 corridor tenders attached to 60029/33/4, I found the following photo very useful: http://www.steamlocomotives.photos.gb.net/p63221387.html Regards, Glenn
  10. Love the un-modelled, Hornby should be made to produce an original MN! The rebuild was their first super detail model back in 1999(?), so they've had the chassis all this time, but still can't be @rsed to produce an original ... but they can produce another Peppercorn A1 and a Thompson B1, both existing Bachmann models. Original - is the spam can, whether it's got modified cab, tender, whatever. Rebuilt - the Jarvis conversions with BR standard appearance (ugly things). Unrebuilt - no such thing, poor English. A West Country is a West Country forever, it doesn't suddenly become an 'unrebuilt West Country', just because someone rebuilds a few of them. You don't get this with the LMS Royal Scots for example, it's either a Royal Scot or a rebuilt Royal Scot, so by default its a MN/WC/BB, or its a rebuilt MN/WC/BB, end of. ... and can't you tell I've got a hangover! Glenn
  11. What to renumber next?!

No, no, no, it has to be Southern this time. As it turned out: 34104 Bere Alston, before rebuilding

  12. Where do the overhead warning signs go on 80082?!

    1. toboldlygo

      toboldlygo

From the photo's I've seen , front face of the tanks, back of the bunker - one side or other top lamp bracket, if that helps

  13. Weathering a 9F and BR 3MT 2-6-2T this morning

  14. Very impressive, I have the drawings, the spare A4 body and tender, plus the K's body kit and that's about as far as I've got with my W1 project. Graeme King should be very proud of himself for producing this wonderful model for you. Glenn
