  1. This is a main line and despite appearances (again) the general direction of the main line is not NE-SW at all. At the junction a branch peels off NE to a solitary terminus station. Finally, a model of this location has been on the exhibition circuit in recent years.
  2. Despite appearances, this is not a terminus station
  3. Ashendon junction, GW & GC
  4. Referring back to Dave's original post on this topic, Julie Driscoll's version of 'This wheels on fire' is another cover of a Bob Dylan song. I for one prefer the original........ I fall into the 'original is best' camp I'm afraid, with just the occasional exception, 'Watchtower' for example. Graham
  5. Love listening to TMS and was pleasantly surprised yesterday to hear Aggers introduce "the best song ever written about cricket", then Roy Harper played "when an old cricketer leaves the crease" live on air. A very creditable version too, particularly as he is now 70 years old. Roy still talks like a hippie though. Yesterday Aggers asked him if he still remembered the years when he enjoyed some success. Roy said he remebered it, but couldn't be sure that what he remembered was what actually happened. I recall seeing him in concert at Uni about 1975. Part way through the set, he says between songs "anyone got a smoke?" and within half a second a joint had landed on the stage at his feet and he picked it up and smoked it. Those were the days.
  6. So, does anyone know what the "old railway goods carriage" is?
  7. There is football training near this square.
  8. Just north of Sandy on the ECML
  9. Quite right. And yes Nuneaton was 5E by then. Your shout Eddie.
  10. This one is easier. The last steam loco off Nuneaton shed in 1966 still exists. What is to be its fate?
  11. Birkenhead Railway no.41 built as a 2-4-0 by Sharp Stewart in 1858. Became LNWR 124 Marquis Douro. Renumbered 1176 in 1865 then 1837 in 1871. Rebuilt as an 0-6-0 in 1869. Became MT no.9. BR no.42 became LNWR 231 Firefly. Renumbered 1178 then 1838, rebuilt in 1865 as an 0-6-0. Became MT no.10. Graham
  12. The footpath/cycleway in the SW corner of the square is an old railway line, which was owned by a different pre-grouping company to that which owned the main line. After the grouping, they were merged into the bigger company and made very uneasy bedfellows.
  13. Its the Manchester Metro north of the city centre
  14. This is the square to the south And to the south of that
  15. Despite being nice and straight, this is a secondary line.
  16. It's the Tame Valley near Brum. The map says the Motorway is the M6, but it's the northern bit of the M5 just before it joins the M6.
  17. A tunnel. There is no regular passenger traffic on this section of line.
  18. The line connects two cities, but you haven't always been able to travel between the cities via this route.
  19. This is not a main line, this is a suburban station.
  20. It's where the WSR meets the main line at Taunton.
  21. Yes the golf course symbol is still shown. This is the square immediately to the north east of the first square. The line in this square connects two large cities.
  22. A disused cutting this time;
  23. Between New Milton and Hinton Admiral
