  1. South of Fakenham, Norfolk
  2. Clue, the line is ex-LNWR and is about 300m above sea level.
  3. Defford, on the Brum to Bristol line.
  4. ....... so there are lots of kettles as well as tin cans on this line. Regular services terminate at the station shown though the line does continue to a connection with NR.
  5. Clue - it's connected to, but not part of, Network Rail.
  6. A couple of miles east of Bere Alston on the LSWR line to Plymouth
  7. Yes I've got it. It's between Aberfoyle and Flanders Moss, not far from the only lake in Scotland, Lake Mentieth Just looking at the map, its near some homesteads ending with 'offerance'. These were the basis, in location, for the Ian Banks book 'Whit', which I can recommend - its a scream.
  8. Perhaps yes. But I'm afraid I'm looking at your latest offering with a deal of suspicion. I still recall the pipeline teaser north-east of Wick where I would not think of looking for a railway.
  9. The square to the east.....
  10. Of the eastbound services, some go to a small town, but others go to a well known cathedral city which has significant railway associations.
  11. Clue, there are regular passenger services on this line. All the westbound ones go to the seaside.
  12. Near Metheringham on the Lincoln-Sleaford line
  13. Between Newton Stewart and Wigtown
  14. The square to the north; Yes there was a junction. The MR had running powers over the LH branch. On the RH branch, there was a station between the junction and the road overbridge. The branch itself terminated not far beyond the overbridge. This station never had an advertised passenger service. It was only used by specials and freight. Gricers descended on the station at least twice in BR days. This occasion is stated as just before closure in 1964, though the two-tone coaches make me wonder.
  15. Peter, thanks for the explanation about the Nile Valley line - that bit escaped me when I was looking up sprat and winkle. Next;
