  1. I’d just like to clarify Moria Mawr was designed and created by Trevor H of this parish and subsequently sold to Bentley MRG. Morfa Mawr as built can be seen on Wibbles website at www.emguage70s.co.uk It’s a lovely layout
  2. Hi Baz that's great weathering. i didn't know they had white solebars? Did you use Railtech transfers?
  3. Hello I am researching the Network Rail High Output Ballast Cleaner (HOBC) train to contemplate building some of it in 4mm/OO. It comprises the RM95RT ballast cleaner in the middle and the MFS MFS-D wagons either side. There is a good side elevation of RM95RT on the Plasser and Theurer website which I have put into CAD and am in the process of drawing over in order to make the parts necessary to build this as a series of sub-assemblies. However I need a drawing or dimensions of the conveyor MFS wagons. Principally I'm after the length, bogies centres and the overall height. There is a snippet of the adjacent MFS wagon on the above mentioned side elevation of the RM95RT and from that I can measure the conveyor angle. If someone could help I would be very grateful regards Richard
  4. Many thanks for the replies Gents, much appreciated. I resprayed an Airfx TSO and BSO into the early 4-stripe version of Arriva Trains Wales livery and whilst the weather so nice for airbrushing I did two GMR/Airfix BSO and TSO into Arriva Northern turquoise too. I'll imagine these have been sent south to the Arriva Wales pool to make a mixed rake.
  5. Hello I'm in the process of respraying several mk2's into the Arriva Trains Wales WAG Express livery. The decals come from John Peck at Precision Labels. There were two versions, the first circa 2009-2010 was with four horizontal turquoise strips along the coaches, then in 2010-onwards there's been a six-stripe version of the livery. I've searched flickr for mk2 coach photos but almost all depict the later livery, does anyone have side one shots of the mk2 carrying the earlier livery please?
  6. Has anyone tried making their own style couplings? Not necessarily for shunting but for semi-permanent fixed rakes. I've see simple hook/eye used in OO/4mm on rakes of HAA MGR hoppers and I've just seen something similar in N scale too. I'd be interested in seeing what others have tried...

  8. I am planning on converting a Bachmann JJA Autoballaster into a HQA version. I would like to take the model apart for respraying. After removing the bogies there's four small screws on the bogie mounting plates which I've removed. How does the model then come apart? Has anyone taken a OO model apart? I'm loathe to take a screwdriver to it to try an prise the underside hopper chutes from the wagon solebar as there's plenty of detail I don't wish to damage. Any info would be much appreciated.
  9. Hi Marcoblanco I think the JNA 'Falcon' bogies are Axle Motion III. S-Kits sell them as kit BG20 AM3. I've used them on BVA steel cassette wagons, they're also on the HQA autoballasters and some HOBC wagons too. Because aligning the axles with the white metal bolster S-Kits supply is tricky, I use the etched brass fold-up frames from Phil Eames at Stenson Models.
  10. Hi Grizz entertaining thread, I like what you and Marcoblanco are building. Spot on with the comment, it's so tempting to begin another project without finishing what already been started. Building the body is one thing and painting it, but then there's the bogies, buffers, coupling, transfers, weathering, loads.... Whats next?
  11. Hello Does anyone have basic length, width, height size of the new biomass wagons built by NACCO and coded Tanoos. There were some photos from a GBRf press release in the Hornby/biomass thread here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/107050-draxhornby-biomass-wagons/page-15 Looking at one of the photos it looks to be 19.624m between buffer beams. regards Rich.
  12. Hi Rich test this first! I used a plastic primer (yellow aerosol can) and it blistered my polyurethane wagon. For resin kits or my own polyurethane parts I just wash in vinegar to remove any mould release agent and use car primer (Holts, Halfords own etc.) regards Rich.
  13. What a great show, many thanks to the organisers for putting it on, well worth travelling down for as there were some nice layouts and demo's.
  14. The Cheltenham exhibition is on this weekend, October 28th and 29th. All the details can be found can be found here http://www.cheltmodrail.org.uk Saint Margaret's Hall has been expanded allowing for a slightly larger exhibition this October.
  15. Hi Baz, Here's two I've made, they're probably the same types as you're going to build. The first is JXA30xx series from a Wild Boar 3d print, it sits on temporary bogies (Gloucester mkIV's I think) The second is a homemade polyurethane cast from a plasticard master, the dims taken from that 'new' wagon drawing book from Ian Allan publishing. At some point the Barclays blue paint will get a serious coat of rust and grime, transfers, buffers, 3-link etc. Let us know how you get on and there's plenty of scrap wagons to model besides the Cambrian/Bachmann offering I built the BVA's by the way, again they're not finished. regards Rich.
  16. Thanks for the responses gents. I've run the idea of attaching a list past our leader and he's given it the nod of approval. Please PM me if there's anything of interest. All loco's now on eBay. 4mm Kits for Sale -updated04.xls
  17. Hello Well thanks for the positive comments gents. When i was considering what to do with the RTR I considered a second hand stall at a show but for several reasons decided against it. I have the lists as spreadsheets so will ask Andy York if I could post here, its a pity there's no longer the selling part of RMWeb! Considering this isn't my expertise how can I judge what they're worth? If I compare with an online auction site for instance its not necessarily a fair representation of the value but then there's not the items to compare with in modelling magazines either. I was cautious about posting online as I didn't want to be 'ripped off' but neither did I want the exploitative prices you find on the aforementioned auction sites either..... oh the conundrum. regards Rich.
  18. Hello I am currently disposing of a relatives model railway collection. Most of it was bought in the 1970's and is of grouping (predominately GWR) and BR steam era stock. I've sold all the boxed RTR and built loco kits via secondhand dealer. I'm now looking for a dealer in secondhand 4mm kits. I vaguely remember seeing a dealer advertised in an EM Expo show guide years ago but can't find anything in the current modelling press. I've asked around friends in the finescale community but their interests are more modern. So, can anyone on RMWeb kindly suggest a trader/dealer/specialist in 4mm kits? I've been told that the manufacturers reads like a who's who of the period but unfortunately my interests are more contemporary and I don't really know much about them. The steam loco's are from Airfix, Bec, Cotswold, Craftsman, Crownline, DJH, GEM, Jamieson, Keyser, Magna Models, Mallard, NuCast, Premier, Ratio, Wills; the coach kits are from Bettabitz, BSL, Colin Waite, Comet, Ian Kirk, Jidenco, K’s, MAJ, Mallard, Mopok, Parkside, PC Models, Ratio, Roxey, Slaters, Sutherland, W&T, Westdale, whilst the wagons kits are from ABS Models, Airfix, Cambrian, Collett, Colin Ashby, Cooper Craft, D&S Models, ERG, Ian Kirk, Jidenco, K’s, Kenline, MAJ, Mallard, Maygib, Mike’s Models, Model Wagon Co., NuCast, Parkside, Peco, Ratio, Slaters, Sutherland, Three Aitch. regards Rich.
  19. I am considering scratch building some of the JGA bogie cement wagons, the early ones are branded Tarmac, the recent ones branded Ermewa. The Tarmac ones were built in 2003 and numbered in the VTG 117** series whilst the recent 2016 build is in the international number range 81.70.7829.***** series. I'm principally after the length as I can work the rest out proportionally.
  20. Hi Sam Thanks for the reply. By shear chance I used Phoenix Railfreight grey (dull) for the body too. The roof has been sprayed with Humbrol #1 a medium dark grey. I couldn't figure out the the bonnets on various photo sites due to differing lighting conditions, sometimes the 'black' doesn't look black at all so thanks for the spec list. How are you planning on putting a gloss (?) varnish on before applying the transfers? I've never airbrushed varnish before. Rich.
  21. Hi Sam I'm just spraying up a Europhoenix 37, but I struggling to match the dark grey colour. What do you recommend? Regards

  24. Hello I recently received an order from George but it took about a month to arrive, so probably best to be patient. I asked for a recent list too. Wagon Kits W1 Yeoman/TML box wagon (various types available with differing bogies & buffers) £17.50 W2 Railtrack JNA (various bogies to suit) £17.50 W4 Tiphook JRA 90 tonne box wagon £17.50 W8 Yeoman O&K JYA box wagon £17.50 W13 British Steel Redmire PGA £20.75 W14 KWA bogie well wagon £20.75 W15 Sea Urchin (ex VDA, long / short handbrake version available) £17.50 W16 British Steel / Yeoman / ARC / VTG bogie tippler £17.50 W17 FEA-F Network Rail container flat (RHTT) etched brass kit with whitemetal fittings £20.50 W20 FEA-S Container flat etched brass kit with whitemetal fittings £20.50 There's alot more too, bogies, buffers, brake fittings, handbrake wheels, container kits, miscellaneous fittings, scenic items and wheels. Most of his fittings as far as I know are white metal castings. Hope this helps. If you're interested in wagons and don't want to scratchbuild his resin kits build up quite nicely with a bit of work. He can be contacted at the above address but include a stamped SAE. regards
  25. After much looking closely at the model the maroon bodyside is separate from the chassis / solebar. Holding the black skirting under the cabs with thumb and forefinger and gently holding the cab sides i was able to detach each end of the bodyshell before the middle came apart - success. there are 3 or 4 sets of small pips that clip into the black solebar. Inside is a centrally mounted motor with brass flywheels driving cardan shafts to gear towers. Beautifully put together and plenty of space for a dcc chip and sound.. Now i have to figure out how the remove the cab glazing moulding and 'cab interior' moulding without breaking either, that loco is going to need a driver you know regards Richard.
