  1. Now that Revolution Trains have announced the Ecofret FWA in both N and OO scale are they utilised in solid rakes/almost solid rakes with either GBRf, Freightliner and DB Cargo? Looking through photo sites its either singular images of the FWA or landscape shots of intermodal operations however I think they are mixed with other types depending on operator. Any info from intermodal enthusiasts would be welcome
  2. Many thx for the paint graphic Mike that's decided my order
  3. Have you any CAD images with the colour schemes applied? I'm wondering what the difference is between Ecofret blue and the GBRf blue livery? I've searched various wagons websites but not surprisingly they are photographed in a weathered state. There is a photo on the Railway Gazette page here with an FWA in dark blue and another photo on VTG's website here
  4. I used the HHA hopper bogies which i think are Powel Duffryn TF25 'track friendly' bogies, they are also on the Bachmann JGA cement wagons. My apologies- they're the wrong bogie for the WH Davis flasks! But since the profile is similar I'll use them.
  5. Is it because there's more decommissioning work? I guess as decommissioning progresses the NDA wants to empty out the ponds. I understood the spent fuel was stored in cooling ponds at the power station sites so that when they were transported to Sellafield they were cooler* as there had been some decay of the radioactivity. *The fuel rods were still very hot hence the cooling fins on all four sides of the Magnox and AGR flasks.
  6. Hi Tom Agreed, another wagon that’s niggling on my ‘to do list’, the modern KXA is a beast of a wagon, I’ve seen photos of it disassembled at Eastleigh so they do travel. Again, would look nice behind a Dapol 67....
  7. Is the second TEA in the video a weathered Hornby model amongst the Revolution tanks? Very nice layout btw.
  8. I'm surprised Bachmann haven't done this, they have the bogies, hood and buffers already. Would complement an Accurascale 37. I started to scratchbuild one with a hood from Make Your Mark Models, one day it will get finished although for this wagon there's no suitable transfers....(yet) Sometimes Mr Johnster its the other way around, the transfers become available but there's no RTR model.... so it can provide the impetuous to have a go at scratchbuilding should you be so inclined, Steve @Railtec released the Belgian Polybulk to design code E442 so.. And another favourite, again with Railtec transfers Actually there's very few scrap wagons released, Bachmanns POA and HSA but no blackadders or JXA's etc. Ironically, scratchbuilding or building a kit can be precursor to something being released RTR, i know we've all been there
  9. interesting topic guys... I've spoken with various manufacturer representatives in the past at exhibitions about wagons and generally its what they think will sell. So I asked Bachmann whether they would consider the WIA Arbel Fauvel 5x wagon car carrier? They'd already dipped their toe in the market with the STVA IPA car carriers. I argued that Dapol had released the MRA as a 5x wagon set and they seemed to sell so would they consider the WIA? Their response was that the initial car carrier didn't shift quick enough from traders shelves and the weathered version took longer so i guess it really depends on what they think will shift. There was a Kernow JIA Imerys clay hopper on eBay yesterday made by Dapol, it fetched £73-00! I guess there are folk out there that will pay those prices. To be realistic i think the cost of assembly in China would seriously escalate the RRP of the likes of the Bachy Polybulk and Autoballaster. What's not been done? Well biomass is a big gap, i asked Cavalex, RevolutioN and Accurascale and i don't believe its on their radar unless they're telling fibs... With the IIA there's a few logos to choose from, Fastline, GBRf etc Check the old rmweb thread in here Otherwise on track plant is a gap, RTR rail grinder, OHLE MPV (like the one based at Swindon), long welded rail train, MOBC and HOBC... look at how quick the yellow coaches disappear from Hornby ARC hoppers with the LTF25 bogies... Proper length Polybulk,...
  10. Hi Ben, Mike, Will these be sold in individual boxes with a card sleeve like the OO scale TEA triple packs or both wagons in one foam insert? I'm considering going 50/50 with a friend and two separate boxes would be easier.
  11. >>please can anyone tell me who does 4mm wagon data panels for SSA, RailTec seem to do 2mm and 7mm? Steve I don't think anyone does these in 4mm AFAIK... and the only maroon SSA's I've seen are resprays of the Bachmann model. what happened to the Sheerness wagons you had? Or were they from HM?
  12. Hi Those photo backdrops look the business. Just before I scrapped Llanthony Road I was experimenting with various photos reduced proportionally with the depth of perspective I wanted to achieve, then suitably hidden amongst the fences and buildings that hid the backscene join with the base board edge. Much fun trying to find suitable photos. Steve, thumbs up with the SSA, it was my first attempt at polyurethane moulding eons ago. hi Nigel, nice to see the PXA (JXA?) earning their keep on your new layout. They are on my 'to-do list' of scratch built wagons. I found a photo of one in EWS days (!) behind a 66 on the Welsh Marches line with BYA nissan huts, BBA and BAA steel coils, so I'm using it as an excuse to put the PXA/JXA in early privatisation era. Cheers Rich.
  13. Hi Steve, are those scratch built EWS SSA scrap wagons lurking in the background? They look nice. Did you keep any of the stock you built for Russell Bridge? I always admired the Powell Duffryn hoods and the ballast regulator. cheers Rich.
  14. Although Olivia's seem to come in for a lot of criticism on this forum I ordered the BOC tanks from their website and they duely arrived yesterday which was a pleasant surprise. Excellent service from them and a happy customer.
  15. Hi Martyn, those photos have inspired me to start to recreate the varied and colourful Murco train. I've started to scratchbuild the TDA but does anyone have a drawing of the TIA tank with the platform at the end? I think there were two diagrams (builds) from Arbel-Fauvet in France, one had flat ends with a stainless steel tank and was used for foodstuffs or acid the other build is shown in the video in this thread, the wagon has dished ends. There's a photo of the foodstuff version in David Ratcliffe's International Ferry Wagons book (Ian Allan pub.) which gives a length of (IIRC) 17.66m over headstocks. Were both builds the same length? regards Rich.
  16. Well its been three months since i posted the buildings 'free to a good' home' and there's been no takers so I'm withdrawing the offer and they'll get binned.
  17. My father-in-law has asked me post on here as he wishes to dispose of a collection of card building kits that he's made and had on his model layout (since dismantled). There are approximately twenty-odd buildings including a complete row of houses/shops in low relief, several railway buildings of GWR/Southern outline - steam outline. Most date from the 1970's (i.e. made in the 1970's rather than 1970's era) from either Superquick, Biltizeei Mainstreet or Prototype Models. I'm not putting them on eBay as they'd be difficult to package and post. Collection from Gloucestershire. PM me if interested.
  18. Just arrived home to the red TEA’s - superb! Many thanks to Ben and the team at RevolutioN and Rapido for crowd funding these.
  19. Hi Cav, Alex, Excellent choice IMHO, you've mentioned the decking would be removable for those of us who might wish to a conversion but is it your intention to do the BIA/BXA/BWA hoods or the BLA coil cradles in the future? I built the BLA from the Cambrian chassis The BIA/BXA/BWA EWS hoods: DB Schenker did several prototypes before starting the MXA 'Lobster' program, MVA 910164 was a BBA conversion: As BazJones1711 has suggested there's lots of scope with this
  20. In retrospect perhaps this digital thing might be considered a generational argument too? DVD? Stream online.
  21. For many years now I have been reading model-railroad-hobbyist a free (until now) online US oriented magazine that you could read either online or download to the device of your choice. Having liked the concept this influenced my decision in the size of tablet I wanted for reading digital magazines. I still buy paper but very rarely. But tech is moving so quickly why store my downloaded Uk magazines on my device? They can be in the Cloud freeing up space on my device for apps. Your Cloud based storage will your virtual bookcase, I can’t see anyone under 25 buying a railway magazine when they use apps, social media and digital content these days. Perhaps I’m wrong but working in engineering tech and seeing how quickly that’s moving right now I see digital content with links to virtual tours of layouts with ‘readers’ wearing VR headsets at home.
  22. Hi Andy AFAIK Bachmann cover the Tatrastroj Poprad batch built in Slovakia in 1997. I have partially built two of the curved Standard Wagon type and a single straight bodied RFS Industries type last Xmas. There is a drawing in the Ian Allan wagons book of the curved type thats to 1:76 scale. I might have taken photos during the build but I laid out the sole bars (Plastruct) on graph paper and taped them down and glued everything together to ensure they were parallel, I then glued in the vertical ribs/dividers. Then after trial and error using a paper template to determine the height of the curved panel (sides) and glued the sides one at a time to the vertical pieces, mine bowed with the liquid poly cement (this was the hardest part!). The ends parts including air brake protection shield, ladder, lugs etc were made using photo reference (Martyn Read and Andy Jupe - thanks gents!). The bogies were from S-Kits, I think they have Stenson Models etched brass frames. Buffers from S-Kits. I still haven't done the hopper chutes underneath. Transfers from John Peck and Railtec. HALL 13700 - 13712 1984 Standard Wagon Heywood curved RMC 17201 - 17224 1986 Standard Wagon curved RMC 17225 - 17249 1990 RFS industries Doncaster straight RMC 19220 - 19246 1997 Tatrastroj Poprad Slovakia Bachmann Hope this helps? I built the straight bodied variant using the same technique. Its really important that you get the solebar frame flat and square otherwise the side will be skewed I found it easier to build the "base" and build upwards.Bogies come last. Ignore the cr#p in the photo I'll see if I can sort out something better. regards Rich.
  23. Hello 'Wagonbasher' I can't believe this thread has been resurrected. >>Do you ever make these? I started on the CAD after Paul kindly set me a drawing and got as far as the ends and some of the internals you can see from the end elevation. After a while I got distracted with other wagon projects too numerous to mention here but earlier this year I did revisit the CAD model as it needs the supports (yellow) and the solebar above the ribs finishing off.
  24. I’d just like to clarify Moria Mawr was designed and created by Trevor H of this parish and subsequently sold to Bentley MRG. Morfa Mawr as built can be seen on Wibbles website at www.emguage70s.co.uk It’s a lovely layout
  25. Hi Baz that's great weathering. i didn't know they had white solebars? Did you use Railtech transfers?
