That flows well....
recently I stuck together all the Templot prints and tonight I took them down to the club to see what it looks like in full scale, Im happy with it, I only had my phone to take a few snaps.
once a lot of the clubmembers went home we placed it on the boards for their new Corwen layout so that we could work out the fiddle yard curves.

A pressure ventilator, and to me for me looks spot on, the nee Airfix ventilators for me have always been under nourished.
Did 298 posts get the same ratings ?
Just thought I was giving my 2p worth...
What's that thing above the doors...? It must be out of gauge..

Give em a rub flat...then burnish the rail and sleepers. Once done dunk the lot in hot water.
Nice signals John.
I dont dare go near the chairs with a fibreglass brush or even a toothbrush, the spikes are very delicate and will just ping off. Ill give the track a spray of primer when I have shaved the centre of the copper on the sleepers away with a cutting disc.
Just making up some more chairs for when I do the next panel, folding them takes some care so that they bend correctly , because they are tags to fold back on themselves its easy to get them wonky or bend them too far or not enough.

Get some fibreglass and give the whole area a cracking burnish will aid you no end.

So am I drawing the turntable in now?
That is really useful thank you to you and your friend.
so now we know the size we just need to find the make of the turntable and can go from there, this company makes some nice kits...

Regards banking, if the banker dropped off at the home signal protecting the goods yard at Fazakerley west which will be on the layout, just above the park subway tunnel I can drop the banker off there with DCC in front of Steve Hewitt's working bracket signal.
Wish my old driver mate was still here, he would have known all this.
The engine shed society Magazine "Link" summer 1997 had an article on the shed which is one ive yet to get hold of.

You want it finished after eight pints of Burton Bridge finest?
Ill set to work now but don't blame me if slip is HO
No wood has been cut yet, as soon as the templot plan is finished it will be easier to finalise baseboard sizes and then start on the pointwork construction.

Wonder if thats the lodge walking?
Makes sense of what was there seeing these pics.

Doesnt look too bad posted up does it?
I know the first background trial was a bit jitterry as there where a number of twists and distortion on the small OS map, which looked OK to the eye but blown up and trying to draw nice flowing track something had to give.

Having thoughts on motors and such like again, and having had success on ebay for some 150 bodies for something else the thought hit me at using as CWJ did the gubbins from a few 150's such as motor lights etc in the 325's, makes for a cost effective way of getting lights and motor and loads of other bits and bobs, the older first release chassis block wont matter a jot as it is hidden and will add much grunt!
Also keeping an eye on Hurst website for a new batch of LWB pantographs..only need two more 91/325 ones and I can get em all done at roughly the same time!

Sorry I may have missed it, but what wheel size and wheelbase black beetle are best used?
I am building the first production kit to prove the instructions. Its a joy to build you get lots of modeling for your money and its not difficult. Progress so far. Picture 1 shows what you get in the Kit (you supply the Black Beetle bits). Picture 2 shows finished sub-assemblies. Pictures 3 and 4 show it on a running in turn on Hope under Dinmore last nigh prior to starting to paint it.

303's basically mirrored the 304 North West's diagrams. They were at both CE and LG Liverpool-Crewe being a regular for some ex ScR ones.
305 were drafted into the North West late in their careers spending the majority of their lives at Eastham?
310's are also available as a kit made by Southern Pride.
Personally the Glasgow Blue train Class 303 would be great although I am aware a kit already exists for this and the areas are limited to Manchester and Glasgow but then look at Heljans recent announcement of it MetVic Sarah Siddons class - is geographical area that much of a consideration these days as the well begins to dry up? Or.....an LMR AC EMU like the 304/305/310s which would be a good compliment to Bachmanns Cl 85.
BTW Dave - these suggestions/ideas/wishes - are you thinking about them for a specific "catalogue date" ie; 2015/2016 for any such good ideas or was you just putting the word out there for models that might not see the light of day until beyond 2016?

http://www.ianallanpublishing.com/british-railways-first-generation-dmus.htm
Is a good read and contains various formations over the years and when set numbers and in what form began to appear. I have had the book since publication and had forgot it contained formations as a chapter.

Hi Nigel,
Being an LM man, I knew AN, LO, CH, NH and KD with my eyes closed, I could only ever recall seeing 117's and 119's with RG! Was Southall a location before Reading?
Don't forget Southall Ian which was the main London depot for the WR suburban DMU's

As you say the Western used a letter to indicate its shed
B Bristol
C Cardiff
L Reading - ( I think some units based from old oak OO also used an L prefix?)
P Plymouth
Followed by a three digit number usually displayed on the cab front below the drivers window.
Other regions or sheds developed unit numbers but more often displayed them inside, the later adopting WR practice T Tyseley, I think the LM had a more fluid way of assembling their units
I cant recall when the Scr started using set numbers, I think I recall seeing 107 xxx etc used.
It was late on that first gen dmu all gained "tops" numbers 101 6xx 117 xxx etc again under the drivers window.
If you csn post your pic here there will be loads of us that will identify the unit in question!
Hi
What do you mean by TOPS based class number ? Sorry to appear dumb but would this number be applied to the vehicle & if so where ?
Thanks again
Cheers Bill

Platform five number books were one of the first to publish set numbers. With the Western being first to be published mainstream.
Only a very few gained a tops based class number and these were once the majority of first gen dmu's had gone.
Hi All
I have built an '80's / 90's layout called Creedyford which features on this site.
I wish to run DMU's as well as loco hauled passenger trains.
At this time DMU's had a set number & letter prefix painted on the cab fronts.....ie.P460 where the P relates to the unit being allocated to Plymouth Laira & the set number (I assume) being 460.The unit in question is the class 118 unit painted in Telecoms livery.
The question really is.....I have several books on the first generation DMU's.....I can find the sets that they ran in (vehicle numbers ) but none give me a set number (Pxxx).
A lot of the pictures on the internet & elsewhere just say "DMU at Wherever".....The set number is visible but no mention of the class of DMU.......
As I'm not good at distinguishing the class of DMU from face on or 3/4 view pictures I am wondering if somewhere there is a publication or site that lists set numbers with class of DMU & vehicle numbers within the set......
I was just about to apply numbers to the front of a Class 108 when I realised the door layout was different on the picture I was studying....I think the unit in question was a 118....but I'm not sure......
Thanks in advance
Bill

313, 314, 507 and northern 508 have always been three cars.
Liveries over the years for the T' Northrern BR Blue grey, GG PTE, Crimson Cream, Scotrail Saltaire, Merseyrail reggie, Merseyrail silver,
More support here for the PEP-derived EMUs, in OO for me! The 313 is now rather widespread and has operated primarily as a 3-car unit rather than 4, which I guess is helpful.
And more support for the Mk1 suburbans in O (about which I've already posted, lest you think I'm trying to vote twice...).
