Over the past couple of days I have made a concerted effort to make a start on the second On30 module that needs to be ready for the January 2010 CRM Exhibition in Crewe. The first step was to dig the 2 modules out from under the workbench and store the 45mm stuff out of the way for a while.

The turntable module is a at a detailing stage and has taken up its place on the left bench of the garden shed. The Orange Growers module is somewhat further behind and has taken up reidence on the right side of the shed. The modules will be making up a long straight layout when connected to other CRM members modules, but here at home they form a U shape linked by a static viaduct that never leaves home.

Because I have both OO and On30 modules the viaduct is not scale specific, in fact in the last picture, taken a while ago it is shown with some OO coaches crossing. This next picture shows a view from the On30 Turntable module into the viaduct section (this time with On30 stock)

Finally the last blog post showed the Orange growers On30 Module as it was till Friday night (BARE !)

Here it is after a couple of afternoons with some signmakers plastic and a knife.....

It all looks a bit white at the moment !!! But hoefully in the coming days / weeks that will change.

    Till the next time.

Im getting back into the routine of getting stuff done now, after my period of "modellers block" The ground cover added last night hsa had the PVA added along with some additional cover at the front, looks like the grass has started to take hold too !!

Im trying to keep an open uncluttered look hence no buildings at the front, I have found previously, that large structures at the front limit photo opportunities.
Although I am tempted with a canopy over the boardwalk station. ? !

    Anyway here are the pictures....

Tonight I had some time and have added colour to the main factory building, it still needs its orange growers signage ! I may be wrong but loosing the monotone grey primer look has brought it more to life.

Im getting a bit more confident that it will be ready for the January show now !

    Comments welcome

It is fair to say progress has been slow this last couple of weeks, finding time has been a bit of an issue.

The orange growers now have a canopy...

I cant decide if the support posts are too thin ?? but they were all I had to hand.

Im sure I will get a couple of hours modelling time tomorrow. Now if I had this opportunity a week ago, the choice would be simple, some work on the Orange Growers Module, after all its at an exhibition on January the 24th !!
But then I went and started working on the three 45mm coaches and now Im getting hooked on them.
Add in potential photo opportunites in the snowy garden and there is just too many fun things to do and not enough time !!! The temperature is no longer a factor either, I spent an hour in the shed late this afteroon and it wasnt much warmer than being outside anyway !!!!!

Looking on the plus side, if this is all I have to worry about its a good life !!!

After last nights dilema over what to spend a free hour on, some fresh falling of snow made my mind up !! I had glazed the 3 coaches yesterday and more importantley given them a coat of satin varnish, that would make them stand up to some moisture in the form of snow.

I lasted about 30mins outside (it was -4C) some trains ran but I found that the fresh wet snow falling on the track reduced traction to the point it was hard work getting anything up the grade, throw in batteries that were not fully charged and it wasnt the best running session ever. I will edit what little video I have of the garratt later.

I did take about a dozen still pictures of which this one was the best ....

I just touched it up a little to add some smoke

and finally it wasnt a steam only day

With work and play halted outside, some work could get dome on the Orange Growers module. Of course it needs some work with an exhibition date at the end of January !!

    Tonights materials.

A spray can lid, some sheet balsa cut into strips and a couple of plasticard off cuts.

The plan... To start making some roof top details, tonght a stair top roof door opening and a roof top water tank.... The ide is to pad out the detail without being to in your face. They can be seen at the centre top of the picture... The canopy roof has also had some more colour added, a darker shade of grey.

Then while the camera was out could resist a shot of the steamer at the other water tower over on the shed module.

Finally, just for a sense of scale a rare picture, a shot of all three of my chosen scales on the viaduct at one time !!!

Happy New Year to all !!!

Our house full of party guests have now left and we are still wide awake. So here is the video I compiled this afternoon from a running session this morning.

My Lap top didn't like processing the 6min film in HD so the quality is not as good as I would like but it gives a good idea of the two On30 modules in action (more or less ready for the Crewe Exhibition this month0

Happy New Year to every one....

After trying and failing to post this in the early hours of the morning after our party guests had gone home, I gave up.

After PMs with Andy it became obvious that the blog post only allows dates up to the end of 2009, So by way of cheating I have backdated this to five to midnight.

Yesterday morning some modelling turned into "testing" trains which in turn ended up with some video shooting.

Its the two on30 modules at work and I think the longest RJR video to date. In fact I ended up restricting the size as for some reason my laptop kept crashing trying to process it ?! But thats a story for another day !

I also kept my commitment to get my website up to date by the end of 2009 and that can be seen

    here
