  1. Trying to find old, no-longer-produced products is fun... anyone seen any of the old GEM ground signals kicking about recently?

    1. Horsetan

      Horsetan

I didn't even know GEM made those!

Yup, used to make 00 scale (ish!) working ground signals, I presume to work with their Mercontrol system!

  2. Trying to fit detailing parts to the new Hornby Schools is terrifying!

Perhaps better to leave them in the box where they belong :-)

Two of my Schools ended up having to go back to the service center after damage to the loco-tender electrical connection (way beyond my ability to solder - I'm not a microsurgeon). Lovely models, though.

  3. Wondering if anyone in Edinburgh has a static grass applicator they would lend him - a bit expensive to buy just to do a couple of square inches on the shunting plank!

  4. Anyone else remember those GEM working ground signals? Trying to get hold of a few. They're rare enough to make me wonder if I just imagined their existence!

So they *do* exist! I swear, if I could ever find them on eBay... I want at least two!

  5. $!*&! Messed up applying LSWR lettering from the HMRS pressfix sheet... and there's only one set of each size of lettering per sheet... Another £7.50 to get another sheet of mostly Southern lettering I won't use!

Maybe try and find a southern modeller with the LSWR half to trade with?

PM me the sheet number, I might have some spare ...

  6. Messing about with a laser cutter at the local Hackerspace and evaluating it for producing wagon bodies...

  7. Built a kit, no trouble at all, now sitting swearing at handrail knobs. How do people manage?

Glad it's not just me then! Trying to do all the front-end handrails on an industrial tank engine - boiler side, tank front and smokebox front handrails all next to each other!

  8. Just spent fifteen minutes (and three springs) trying to replace a "sprung" Kadee coupling spring. >.< Now I see why they pack so many spares in a packet!

    1. Jintyman

      Jintyman

I totally agree, quality is excellent and the service outstanding.

Just about all of Talyllyn's station signage has been done by them. ;)

  12. Sometimes it just takes a chat with a fellow enthusiast to bring the modelling mojo back!

  13. Building my second kit from Petite Properties, and delighted so far!

  14. Worried about a loco that Hermes are apparently attempting to redeliver. I haven't had the first delivery attempt yet!

    1. AndyB

      AndyB

That'd be Hermes! Named after the Greek god of speed and cunning. They're so quick you'd have to be cunning to spot them trying to deliver!

  15. Just lost the last M transfer for a 4mm wagon number. Painting it by hand with a very fine brush and a shaky hand...

  20. Amazing what a lick of paint'll do, isn't it Gromit?

      Skinnylinny

Painting the wheels of a Mainline loco to remove the big chunky silver rims makes a heck of a difference!

  21. Building a Revell BR02 kit with my flatmate. Neither of us had realised that it included inside cylinders, complete with cranked axle!

    1. Horsetan

      Horsetan

Your next challenge is to make it all revolve and reciprocate! The Br.02 was a 4-cyl compound, just to heap further misery! Deutsche Reichsbahn had them rebuilt to 2-cyl "01" form.

  22. Well, that's another siding laid... and the last connected up, ready to respace the sleepers. I can finally run things!

    1. SHMD

      SHMD

Which came first, the Siding or the Mainline?

  23. Just listed his first items on eBay... Scary stuff!

      DonB

Mine's been in store for about 4 years. took it out to club last week , it ran beautifully, BUT it's lost it's safety-valve cover.

Asked Hornby if spares available, awaiting a reply, but not hopeful! Any suggestions?

(will post again in "Help" area)
