    New Hornby 9F

On the Hornby Show, that I was watching last night, great show was made of getting all the wheels the same distance apart. This morning I received an email from Hattons re pre-ordering and there was the 9F still with the spacing of the wheels incorrect. I assume they are using out of date artwork. If so that's not very clever.
  2. Then there was Patchway. If DCC had been around in 2000 it could well have been Patchway in my railway room, not Worseter. Bristol TM and Patchway were my two spotting locations and DCC would have allowed me to have bankers dropping off the back of up freights as they passed through the station.
  3. Bristol Bath Road shed and the South end of Temple Meads. I never got beyond producing the track plan. The same with Tiverton Junction. At least my plan for the latter made it into MRJ!
  4. Salansons was the go to shop when I was a lad. Remember ogling the K's kits but realising that at that time I was safer with Kitmaster.
  5. I hope you are not too depressed after listening to the cricket!
  6. Buffer stop looks amazing Tim, but the brickwork could do with a bit of ageing!
  7. Railcar W21W has only a handful of passengers for the trip to Gloucester.
  8. 45562 Alberta heads South over the viaduct at Worseter with a diverted Leeds to Bristol express.
  9. 7220 trundles along the embankment at Worseter with a train load of coal from South Wales
  10. Latest addition to the Worseter loco roster. The loco was converted to P4 for me by Robin Whittle (Barrow Road). I built a Lanarkshire Models chassis for the tender and did the weathering. Needs a bit of detail weathering but I thought I would take advantage of a nice sunny day here in Donegal. I need to order some more crew and lamps at some point (I have several locos that still need staffing) and put some coal in the tender.
  11. Tissue paper soaked in light oil for me. Easy to remove afterwards.
  12. Jeremy, Another tip. When it comes to painting, temporarily bolt the fold up chassis and retaining plate together so that yo don't get any paint on the abutting faces. You will also need to mask off the chassis for the bearings as there are no hornguides. It's probably worth chemically blackening the area before hand as any bare metal exposed when you remove the masking will show through behind the wheels. As the bearings themselves are quite large, it's also worth blackening the outer faces of those as well. If you do have any specific problems, I will do my best to help.
  13. Jeremy, I cut off the guard irons and fabricated new ones. The coupling pocket needed filing back and I fitted a representation of the AWS pickup from styrene. It's very important to make sure the retaining plate fits snugly inside inside the fold up chassis and that both of these and the Hornby chassis are absolutely true. I soldered a washer under the second screw hole in the retaining plate where there is nothing between it and the Hornby chassis. This needs to be exactly the same thickness as the fold up chassis. Otherwise I pretty much just followed the instructions.
  14. While waiting to pick up some paint from the UK for the above rake of coaches, I made a start on converting a Hornby 72xx tank loco to P4 using Brassmasters EasiChas kit and Ultrascale wheels. I'd had the wheels for years from when, back in the mists of time, I was going to scratch build a body in styrene and stick it on an Alan Gibson chassis. That never happened and the Hornby loco and conversion kit have been in my to do box for some time as well. The loco is now finished and ready to go into service on Worseter.
  15. Is it really seven months since I posted that video. I don't get a lot of modelling done in the summer but I have now finished building a rake of coaches for the Birmingham Gloucester stopper. These comprise 4 comet coaches on Bill Bedford sprung bogies and a Hornby BCK, also running on Bill Bedord bogies. They will all be finished in 'blood and custard' and some stage.
  16. Miserable wet day so between watching the downhill from Italy I took a ride on the exercise bike. The view isn't too bad.
  17. Another fine day for a bike ride. Still plenty of water in our local reservoir. Had to stop off for a choc ice on the way home. Our second visitor from the USA this week in the marina.
  18. Those two haven't been doing so well this year in the World Cup races, did they opt out of the North American Rounds? Yolanda Neff was on fine form at the weekend. Seems crazy having the European and World championships on successive weekends. I see Tom Pidcock is entered in the Europeans.
  19. Back on the bike after time off with a nasty leg infection. Only 30km as a starter. From this point it's only 3km to home as the crow flies (or should that be seagull) but 9km by road.
  20. Absolutely. She has had a dreadful year/
  21. Ist ride for 5 weeks thanks to a combination of Covid and bad weather. Hard work!
  22. A great race. Well done Cav.
