  1. SNAP!! http://www.rmweb.co....post__p__415736
  2. Really starting to get there now I'd say. Each job you complete from now on in ought to improve the 'feel good' factor for you as you head towards completeness.
  3. just shows you what a good model that is for N said it before as well, but great looking layout, in particular the trackwork.
  4. Dave Sold to the man with a unused turntable cut out in his layout, wow I was expecting it to be good but I wasn't expecting that good. Thanks for the posting, superb stuff and even in that short clip you can really see its solid. I really do want one badly now !!! Can I bother you for a parts list.
  5. Always good to see folks doing something different in N, and with those last two posts you're certainly doing that. Be sure to post your 61244 when you get a chance!
  6. In terms of side flash location here's a few variants... http://www.railbrit....e2.php?id=32892 http://www.railbrit....e2.php?id=34029 IMO, the most common siting was forward facing on the front running plate, and a pair either side atop the firebox, and a pair on the back end of the tender.
  7. damn..... I've done two B1s the way you describe in lieu of undoubtedly rare B1 tender shots from behind..... http://www.railbrit....e2.php?id=21591 Edit after more searching..... but on the other hand http://www.railbrit....e2.php?id=36350 I even managed to pinpoint two cases +/- 5 digits away from your selected choice!! just to throw you into more confusion. FWIW I'm off the opinion I saw more online evidence (as little as it was) off the two flash fomat on the rear end.
  8. Nice work, shame about the Foxhunter kit. I'm going to wait for the Atso-Cad version, it really does look promising. I know you've posted on that as well. I hope it comes to fruition, liekwise with the pigeon van project...
  9. Dave I think you're about right, most I've seen had flahes on the rear firebox with a minority having them behind the smokebox. Most if not all had them on the front running plate forward facing although. Tender wise again most I've seen have them where you state, but I've seen a few with them further atop on the rear of the coal bunker. Sorry I can't provide links easily, I make these statements based on browsing the usual we photo sites, but I forgot to record links.
  10. Dave brilliant stuff, I'd subconsciously steered away from doing anything with my turntable from the point of view that I deep down knew it would never perform the way I wanted it to. With alternatives in N gauge at a premium it kind of left me stumped. Any chance you could post a bill of materials for the rollers, the motor and any other parts you needed to make this work. Secondly would it be possible to see this in action via some sort of multimedia, solid revolution at 1rpm and solid as a rock sounds too good to be true. :-)
  11. Roy To be honest I wasn't able to find many pictures of 61244 and as such I based it on pictures I did find of 61245. My layout is based on a loose middle 1960s era with a bit of leeway to allow some steam/diesel crossover which in reality probably didn't happen. As such all steam locos of mine tend to have electrification flashes in order to kind of fit that era. (We had to have steam/diesel crossover as my dad was a steam only man, and I was diesel only so seemed the only compromise) I can't find that picture(s) of 61245 that I did find, if I do I'll post back. Edit1 : http://www.flickr.co...ill/2146431947/ Curious as she doesn't appear to have the boiler side flashes where just about every other late B1 I've seen did!! Maybe its just obscured by the dirt. Some of the southern shedded ones also tended to have flashed behind the smokebox as well, all a bit of a minefield really!! Edit2 : Looking back at my 61244, looks like I lost a electric flash on one side of the boiler!! never noticed until you brought this up, so I'll need to attend to that somehow!! Good luck with your 61244, be sure to post your progress.
  12. Thanks Ian, much appreciated. jobs a good'un. cheers for the legwork 'Chard. Much appreciated.
  13. Thanks Roy, very kind you to say. I started this about 18months maybe even 2 years ago, long before there was ever a hint of a Farish A1. The chassis obviously lets the overall characteristic of the model down, as does the chassis on Farish A3/A4s but other than that I'm happy with her. I like the fact I can have a realistic (or what I hope is realistic) coal load unlike the Farish one, that's the only place I'm scoring points!! Did you ever manage to get Blue Peter plates for your '532?
  14. 16 weeks not a lot, but at the rate of progress you seem able to make I'm pretty confident you'll make it. keep us posted, always enjoy your pictures, and I'm looking forward to seeing your rapid progress in the coming weeks.
  15. Good man 'Chard. On what basis do you say she was an EH regular? I've scanned all the known image locations (flickr, photobucket, google images, railscot) and have quite a few pictures but none north of the border.
  16. Another project 99% finished but just not quite, however I'll post it here and hopefully next time she'll be seen in my actual layout thread in active service. She's been a long time coming, and was built from a Foxhunter models kit (not the reason for the loco choice). Possibly not a regular on the route, but being Copley Hill I'm using the my layout rule, but maybe someone can advise of her appearance between Carlisle and Edinburgh, the odds must be quite high. The actual loco choice is based on the fact a family friend owns one of the original Foxhunter plates and so it seemed the right thing to do. Ultimate aim is to get a picture of the two together. Only gripe is the cabside number position which had to become a bit squised to fit above the makers plate but below the lining, doesn't look too bad I think but its not right. One smokedefelctor still on workbench as for some reason it reacted to the varnish, nothing else did other than a few bodyside bits here and there but I don't think it looks anything other than weathering.
  17. Been seen before but getting pretty close to operational condition and pushing into service. Just really needs the roof toning down and a bit better bodyside weathering (bit too brush streak like at the moment) and that'll be her...
  18. Agree with that, was really impressed with that. I could imagine that with some N-Brass handrail wire and lamp irons and it'd be better still. Truly exciting stuff.
  19. Can't get enough of this layout to be honest, it just oozes the right atmosphere. A combination of spot on traction combined with superb scenery just makes it superb. Keep the pictures coming, we really can't have enough. Wait until 'Chard and Max Stafford pick up on this...I know they are currently galavanting somewhere on WR territory as we speak.
  20. Thanks Roy, that's useful to know. I never expected to see Route Availability markings in N to be honest.
  21. Good work Roy, haven't seen one in the flesh but I believe this was a Heritage N casting, that possibly was obtained from somewhere else. I remember reading about the history of the model somewhere. I believe they were regarded as quite a rough casting but looks like you've done a decent job with it. Can I ask where you got a decal sheet with the Route Availability number included? I'm in the middle of the finishing touches to an kitbuilt A1 and I just notice your model has the RA9 on the cabside.
  22. how damn hard it is to line out n gauge locos even with transfers....my eyes are jiggered

  24. nice work, I really like elevated track like that, I wish I'd started with that concept rather than the traditional flat board approach.
  25. That'd work for me and no doubt a few other on here!!
