  1. But tractive effort is just a theoretical calculation of a loco's ability to get a train rolling . An 08 has more than a 67, but you wouldn't call that more powerful. And loco's will exert their maximum tractive effort without their throttles wide open. Be very exciting to see just how well the P2 performs if they sort the issues with it's valve gear. The increased psi boiler for the A1 can already produce more steam that the cylinders need at speed, add a bigger grate, a cylinder diameter almost identical to a Duchess, plus it's Kylchap exhaust...it could well be a contender for the crown. It will never happen but I would love to see the ECML opened up to race the big steam engines. A1, Duchess, 71000 and the P2. We all know the A4 holds the speed record, but few people would contest that given the same conditions that Mallard had, Coronation would have walked all over it. Incredible machines that really needed mechanical or oil firing to reach their full potential.
  2. Do we know if Dapol has dropped plans to fit them with smoke generators, or is this still part of the specification? Seems quite cheap on the ehattons pre-order.
  3. And furthermore, there's only one contact point for the current to flow! I wonder how long the enjoyment of working catenary would last once the wire gets dirty and needs cleaning...somehow...
  4. It was on an email explaining the reasons for the cancellation of 40145 (I had preordered it). For info the 37's are DRS 402 & 405, 37418 LL Blue, 37418 EW&S, and 37901 in Rf, Trainload Metals and Transrail.
  5. Email from Olivia's indicating they have commissioned D333 (split box) in BR green. No mention whether it'll have yellow panel though... Also some 37/4's and 37/9's...
  6. Noticed on Olivia's website this morning, I had wondered if this might happen: Bachmann 32-482Y. Class 40 145 “East Lancashire Railway” In BR Large Logo Livery. Olivias Trains > Model Railway Trains > Bachmann Diesel & Electric Locomotives. > Bachmann Class 40. > Bachmann 32-482Y. Class 40 145 “East Lancashire Railway” In BR Large Logo Livery. Limited Edition Exclusively for Olivia’s Trains. Cancelled 15/03/2014. We are very sorry that we have been unable to do this Limited Edition because we have been unable to reach an agreement with CFPS for the copyright . We are speaking with Bachmann for suitable alternatives we state this to a revised Class 40. If you have pre-ordered this we will get in touch early next week. This does not affect any of your Statutory Rights.
  7. I returned mine to a well known Scouse box-shifter, mechanical and pick-up problems affecting it. The replacement has just as poor pick-ups, but this time the moving bits work correctly so i'll accept it's a design fault and carry out the modification demonstrated by Grunfos (many thanks, sir). Can't praise the shop highly enough, sending a replacement immediately no quibble and refunding the considerable postage charge. I'd love to hear what Bachmann intend to do about this long term, it must be extremely embarrassing (and annoying) and I can't see how they'd allow future class 40's to have this design.
  8. Another black mark against the Bachmann 40 from me...disconnected cardan shaft at one end, very slow, screeching noise coming from the motor, poor lubrication, lights flickering and stalls over every dead frog. Going back to the shop tomorrow, only I doubt they'll have any to replace it with. Such as shame as it looks stunning. I really hope Bachmann modify the design before they release any more... (Olivia's Trains 40145 L.E for a start)
  9. Pretty new to this forum, although read it for a while. I know its a question thats been asked before but I've never fully been able to find a proper answer (though I've spent long and hard searching) so if anyone can point me in the right direction... Is there a definitive modification that can be made to the Hornby 50 that stops the derailing of coaches/wagons without resorting to modifying every other piece of rolling stock I own? Any assistance welcomed... Thanks.
  10. Wonderful photographs! Thanks for posting these
