That will be me then. It was in a PM Iain and I did say front buffer beam. According to A.J Powell in the book "Stanier locomotives" Steam heat pipes were not fitted on the front buffer beam from 5020 - 5069 and 5075 - 5224. I cannot find in the book where it states that the steam heat pipes were fitted at a later stage. Having viewed a number of pics on the "Rail online" site the pipes were not fitted in BR days either. Plus I don't think that a shedmaster would have sufficient authority to dictate the livery of locos. Pete

Same experience , threw it in the bin. Pete

We had to give our cat the tapeworm medication on her neck yesterday as she lives on mice basically. How the heck she knows she was due is beyond me. It is not as though we rush to grab her, we just amble in gently trying not to spook her. Suffice to say that both my wife and I spent the next 5 minutes trying to catch her in the conservatory. This isn't unusual as we go through the same procedure every time she needs worming. Of course today we are all in the conservatory and she hasn't a care in the world. It just confirms to me that cats of all sizes are magnificent intelligent creatures. Do any other members have the same pantomime ? Pete

The C13 also commands high prices. Pete

I cheated and bought a fair bit of pointwork from Gordon S when he was having another rethink. Those new points from Finetrax look very interesting and hopefully will open up a new market. Pete

That's a heck of a lot of pointwork to be laid down Iain. Pete

One of our cats would come in from outside use the tray and then promptly go straight back out again, which was fine as the neighbours couldn't complain. Pete

I don't allow our cat to jump onto my work desk if I can help it . I always worry what she may inadvertently pick up on her paws (fibre glass shards, w/metal filings, flux etc ). We all know how clean cats like to be and licking their paws is all part of their grooming process. This is not a criticism and is not aimed at anyone, I just thought it might be something to bear in mind or maybe I am teaching my grandma to suck eggs. Pete

Not the west end of Cowburn per chance ? I wouldn't get upset about it, each to their own. Pete

Better man than me Jim. Once they were in the house I wouldn't be able to rehome them. My wife would rather rehome me than the cat. Pete

And we are supposed to be a nation of animal lovers . What a load of crap. Bored ,what's the matter had the mobile phone battery gone flat. How anyone could look at that appealing face and lock the cat out is beyond me.

Black Friday Black Five - Hornby's Super Detail 5MTs
cb900f commented on Silver Sidelines's blog entry in Sixties Snapshots - 00 scale
Pete, I shall have to check now . You have got me thinking that if it is the 1st 50 then it would be 5020-69 not 70, which would explain your photo. Just checked and it is 5020-69, however 5075-5224 apparently did not have steam heating at the front also. Pete -

Ray, Also 44908 shouldn't have the remains of the vacuum pump on the L/H crosshead. It's the short length of metal pointing down to the ballast. Pete -

Pete, I'm sure you know this but don't forget that 45020-70 didn't have a steam heating pipe on the front buffer beam. Pete -
Tony, the v/gear came assembled in the kit. Pete

Plus a Black 5 rushing through on a fitted freight comprised of 12t vans. Pete

Layout in a loft....heat and cold...
cb900f replied to modelman14's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
Keith you have been fortunate in dealing with an Inspector with some common sense, was he a private Inspector ? I wish the building regs Inspectors would all sing from the same hymn sheet. I had to endure a complete awkward council pratt who insisted that I had a habitable room and therefore I had to comply with all the relevant regs. That was after the plans had been passed by the planners and the building regs office as a loft. He was even dictating that a loft should not be visited for more than 3 times a year. It has taken me 2.5 yrs of arguing to obtain a certificate, in the end I had to go over his head. Pete -
Frank, There is a 4th C12 in 4mm by Ace products, better known I think for his 7mm kits. I have adapted 2 craftsman C12s to square tank/bunker. If you model 67357 be careful as it had round bunker coal rails but had a square bunker. There is a host of detail differences even in the same class. Pete

Frank, I stand to be corrected but all my Craftsman C12s are brass with whitemetal fittings. The white metal C12 was produced by Wills. Pete

Black cats are my favourite and all 6 of our cats have been black / black and white but to be honest we couldn't turn a cat away no matter what colour and we received this e mail this morning. "Today we are celebrating the 10th National Black Cat Day, Cats Protection’s annual campaign to celebrate black and black-and-white cats. We launched this special day back on 27 October 2011 because we discovered that it took the black cats in our care a week longer on average to find a home than cats of other fur colours. Over the years we’ve explored reasons why that might be and tried to change adopter perceptions and the rehoming trend. The good news? It’s worked! On average black cats now spend 10 days less in our care before being rehomed than they did 10 years ago. The gap between the length of time black cats and other cats stay in our care has also narrowed". Pete

I find it incredible how animals appear to so easily overcome disabilities. Pete

We are convinced that they seek us out. We have had 6 cats in total. The first 2 were brother and sister (3 months old black) and we acquired them through a 3rd party as the owner went to live in an animal free accommodation. He must have been a complete prat as he took the brother in his top jacket pocket to a nightclub one night. The 3rd cat (2yrs according to the vet tuxedo) turned up in a snow shower on New yrs day under the garden hedge and stopped. The 4th cat was a kitten (black) that we found under a hedge on the way back from the pub. The 5th cat was a kitten (black/white) and was left in the doorway of my Wife's library . The 6th is of course Tabby (black/white). A bit long winded but just to prove that "yes" they know who to go to alright. Pete
