  1. Ian, Owning 8 ML 5s and 1 DJH 5 , I consider the ML to be superior to the DJH kit especially with regards to lost wax castings as opposed to the DJH whitemetal offerings. I will root out a set of instructions and if you PM me with your address I will post a set on. Pete
  2. I had a Grange too. Built it, thought it looked terrible and threw it in the bin. Pete
  3. A couple of days back a friend demonstrated how to remove numbers etc using Brake/Clutch cleaner. Please note cleaner not brake fluid. The numbers were removed in a matter of seconds using a cotton bud and the remaining cleaner quickly evaporated with no apparent detriment to the cab side. Pete
  4. Here we go again. Lets nail the driver. I don't consider a driver as having a SPAD just because some bloke on the ground sticks 1 arm in the air. It's amazing how everyone wants to blame the driver and report them and yet a driver can see lots of things wrong but never reports the matter. Pete
  5. Green handsignals were used at night in shunting to indicate to the driver that the movement was to be made slowly . Eg side to side when buffering up.
  6. Why limit it to local government. The whole country leaves a lot to be desired.
  7. Titan, I think you are getting a bit confused. Control air pipes are used in multi working and are actually named Regulating air pipes, painted white . I think you are referring to the Main res pipe painted yellow. The straight air brake can only be operated on the loco and cannot operate the straight air brake on any additional loco. Pete
  8. Well I will say it. All this trouble over 25 points or am I missing something ? Pete
  9. Have a look at this recent thread, it may help to answer some of your queries. Bachmann Royal Scot Started by Trev52A, Dec 27 2017 11:06 Pete
  10. Gordon, I think I have the solution to your shed options . Sell all your stock and go ex LMS and then all you need is a roundhouse and coaling facilities. No ? Just a thought. Pete
  11. Gordon, Does the layout of Widnes not appeal to you ? The 2 main lines to Liverpool (bottom side of the shed) could be incorporated into the shed plan as storage/departure roads. Pete
  12. Thanks Russ and a happy New Year to you too. I knew you would know being ex Thornaby. Have to say they were my least favourite loco to work with, give me a good old 45 or 47 to anything else. Cheers Pete
  13. Yes Which was a problem for the second man,as you had to be careful where you placed your cup of tea. There was a set of controls at each seat (nose or cab leading). If I remember correctly both power handles moved irrespective of which seat you where driving from. Therefore if you were sat in the non driving seat and put your cup of tea in the vicinity of the power handle it could go flying all over the desk. Disaster no tea. I'm sure Russ will put me right. Pete
  14. Russ, I'm sure he was at Donny in the late 90s/early 2000s. Pete
  15. Was is not Barbara Castle who said that there would be no more closures and then promptly closed the S&D ? Pete
  16. Also if the signal box received a coat of paint you knew the box was closing. Pete
  17. Gary, You're not looking hard enough. One on ending at 16:56 tomorrow £9.99 + postage. no bids. Pete
  18. Beat me to it ,so I've posted it in bargain hunters. Pete
  19. I know that this is not really a bargain but there are 4 new Sir William Staniers on e bay from Malta at £199.99 with £15.95 postage as of 09:35 this morning. Still a bargain though compared to other recent prices. https://www.ebay.co....yEAAOSwX3FaIRis HTH Pete
