  1. I await the arrival of my lion with much excitement...but a sudden thought occurred to me; Ive nothing for it to pull! Any suggestions for suitable rolling stock? Ive seen some of the Hornby l&mr offerings and wasn't much impressed. Thank you!
  2. I presume the metal name and number plates are supposed to be applied over the painted on ones...any advice on how to attach them with least chance of damaging it?
  3. Yeah no handrails on this, I've just put in an order for all the bits needed to fit them. The motor works and the wheels turn properly now. The loco is happy in straight lines , not found any corners it likes yet though! Some modification might be required to make that leading wheel pivot or something. I'm not too concerned with pulling power...I only have two ratio Midland clerestory coaches, and it will have to share them with my Bachmann 1532 tank engine....
  4. I was unaware ratio had made loco kits until I bought this on ebay, and I mostly bought it out of curiosity . I've built their coaches but loco kits in plastic never seemed to be a terribly great idea...but I kinda wanted to see how it worked... It seems that it does work, tho one of the coupling rods falls out, and its a bit wonky, with bits missing. It was advertised as a Johnson loco, so I suppose its a midland machine but I know not the class number... So can anyone tell me more about it, and what should it look like when finished? And can I just superglue the pin back into the wheel? Thanks! Edit...OK why are the pics upside down..they're the right way up on my phone...
  5. I got the notification, but by the time I checked two hours later bluebell was sold out again...
  6. We have an employee discount scheme thing through work which is generally pretty useless...whenever I look for stuff through it it tends to come up more expensive than undiscounted! Sometimes able to save money on Pandora jewellery and cinema tickets... Somewhat astonished to find the peckett on there and at that price..I suspect it was an error!
  7. My centenary peckett arrived today , managed to get it for just 65 quid, and I think I got a bargain...that really is a delightful little engine!
  8. A new toy arrived in the post today and its certainly the best Hornby model I own! It is the centenary limited edition peckett w4 in photographic gray and I'm very impressed with its level of detail, the livery, and its performance. Cant get enough of watching it trundle around my dining table!
  9. I've seen that, excellent stuff. There is indeed a huge untapped well of prototypes for models covering the first half of the steam era...I suspect the main reason it remains so is that so few locos from that period lasted long enough to be painted in BR black , and I suspect Hornby et al find that offputting
  10. Ah , the rocket. The 1st loco ever made and seemingly the only one built before the 1872 when an infinite number of terriers were introduced...
  11. So I've just finished a set of 7 of the ratio 4 wheelers intended to be if no particular prototype. Choc brown with gold lining and lnwr lettering cos that's what I had lying around.... I hadn't heard about the genesis coaches till I was half done...and now the transfers are drying and Hornby do this to me... so long story short I'm getting a set of each. more victorian tank engines to pull them please!
