  1. Hi Mike

I only clean wheels with isopropanol and cotton buds theses days.

I don't like abrasives because they all generate dust which gets everywhere.

Don't forget to clean the wheels of all your rolling stock, not just engines.

Coaches and wagons are really good at dragging muck around the whole of a layout.

Please ignore short and terse replies.

    Good manners are free.

  2. Unless you are running old double motored Heljan stuff your NCE Power cab will do it perfectly.

DCC systems are not sentient beings. They have no idea if the load attached is a 4mm model or a 7mm one.

Do not waste your money buying a big new system (or even additional NCE power) that you wont need.

  3. Hi Marc?

Yes it will run on its own local network if you want, or it'll run as part of your domestic network.

I take a manky old router around the shows with me so I can run LenzDCC to Lenz interface to laptop with JMRI to smartphones with Withrottle or Engine driver.

You haven't told us which DCC system or interface you have bought - some seem to be more user friendly than others.

  4. I’m loathe to believe that better running and better appearance are “minority interest”!

I think some of us are in a bit of a bubble where we see S7 and OMF over represemted

  5. Hi Art

The previous 25 posts are all interesting, but the simple answer to your question is that the vast majority of O gauge modellers in the UK use 32mm gauge track in combination with wheelsets that conform to (or are close to) to the GOG Fine standard.

The other standards (and not-so-standards) are of minority interest, and are the subject of more discussion than they are of actual modelling.

  6. Tried the above , made no difference. Had a reply from DCC Concepts , all they could say was ' have I removed the suppression caps ' so basically I give in , I won't be buying anymore of there decoders , unfortunately I purchased 5 and have fitted 3..

Send them to me - they are brilliant.

I have been using the DCC Concepts stay alives for a while now. If you want to use them with non-DCC concepts decoders as I do, you do need to wire them to Decoder positive (Blue) and ground (GND, which is not the same as Cap negative).

Not everybody can do it because in some cases it involves soldering to the decoder PCB itself. So you need to be fast and accurate with a soldering iron.
