  1. Hi Ade, glad you sorted it out though, I have done it the daft way, too busy working on track instead of clearing up some clutter, then testing a loco on the track it kept shorting out etc, scratched my head etc etc, moved said crap some time later, found a needle file across the rails ................... :fool:

    Best regards

From 1978 when I worked for BR it was always DM45029 in Blue grey till it later got Inter City livery.  May have changed when repainted from maroon.

Hi Merfyn thanks for that, this link "hopefully it will work" from Paul Bartlett's excellent site shows M45029M still numbered as M45029M in August 77, so it's around the period we are discussing, as I am modelling 1970 - 1977 I'll go with the M45029M numbering, I think I'll be safe.

    Many thanks for the contributions.

TDM45026 was noted as based at Walsall in the 1983/84 RCTS Coaching Stock book. Looking on Departmentals.com there are sitings at Birmingham New Street in 1978 and 1981. Still a bit of a gap back to the photo (circa 1970 - 1974) but it may be that saloon.

Thanks Graham, you always come up trumps with info as well, it’s appreciated

    Hi Craig,

Enlarging the print on the tablet, shows that it is definitely an ex LMS Diag 2046 Inspection Saloon, the give away is the centre drop light, never a feature of the ex GWR Q13 Inspection Saloons.

As to a running number, who knows, but certainly starts DM 450xx

sorry that I cannot be more accurate.

    kind regards

  6. Hello, I have a grainy black & white picture off the Derby Sulzers website, I am trying to identify the type of Inspection saloon coach that is being used, any info would be gratefully received, also  I must mention the picture is a download form the said site to try and avoid any Copyright issues.

According to the details on the picture information The Saloon coach is attached to a Class 24 loco, I am trying to find out whether the Saloon is an LMS build or a Q13, its difficult to tell off the image

    Thanks in advance

Yes David they were, I remember them up to about 1968/9.

WOW what era are you modelling Phil ? I use to travel on them in the 70's, 80's & 90's till withdrawal, and I only recall them just having the centre partition, basically splitting the cars in 2, and having a 2+3 seating arrangement in the compartments, which where all standard class, no 1st class.

  8. With regards to the etched DMU conversion sides and cabs, have a look at Worsley Works, Allen Doherty has a good range in 2mm, 4mm & 7mm  now, and if you ask him for something that's not in his list , he is always happy to oblige.

Look forward to seeing part 2 (you are going to do a part 2 aren’t you?)

    Nigel

 .... pssst, the word on the street Rod will be doing a part 2, it will involve a 3rd rail, and some 503's EMU's, this may need some serious funds though !!! :secret_mini:

Rod .... have you still got that "cough cough" 115 set ? :good: ........

PS footy wise my Saturday's are really sh*t this season ...

The Western didn't bother with anything fancy so you might get a local poster saying pay on the train or you might not get a poster and have to work it out fir yourself.  In some cases details of a line being converted to Conductor Guard ticketing would appear in a local 'paper but normally in the form of 'you'll now have to buy your ticket on the train because so-&-so station will be unstaffed from next Monday'

Many thanks Mike, that helps me get my layout operating method correct when I get round to it.
