  1. Sorry forgot to add heading. Not many of these seen in the Midlands but to good a model to miss out on.I have added a couple of mods eg exhaust ,new headcode numerals loco numbers and added crew but a great model well done Kernow.
  2. Thank you Paul for posting the pics..D6328 is due an B exam so the missing windscreen wiper will be replaced
  3. Another addition to the fleet although from a different era 24047 ,from the superb Sutton Locomotive works.Renumbered and weathered to a photo. The only 24 I worked on as a second man so it just had to be done.
  4. Patched up Rapid now complete with middle wicket.
  5. D1039 Western King appeared at Hereford on a train from Severn Tunnel .Looking a bit battered towards the end of its maroon reign it had to be recreated. cheers Greg
  6. Hi guys. I have just finished D1068 to add to my growing 52 fleet weathered with added nose end patch as I remembered seeing her in this tatty condition at Reading in 73.I have several pics of both ends and sides , essential to try and capture the individuality of each loco.Hope it cuts the mustard. cheers Greg
  7. Thanks for the comments guys, here is a few more shots around the steel works and exchange sidings.I have been trying to achieve that typical run down look and distressed the track work, widened to gauge in places but not enough to affect running and added weeds etc.Still work in progress.
  8. Thank you Paul for posting the latest set of pics and a short write up on my foray into some military modelling products I have been getting to grips with. After a trip to Telford international plastic model kit exhibition last November with an accomplished military modeller,I was blown away with the standard of models exhibited in three big halls.Always keen to improve on techniques, there are some fantastic products and also some good videos on You Tube which often slip under the radar of which can be adapted for us rail modellers.I am now tweaking some of my earlier weathering attempts and hopefully improving on what I had already achieved. Thanks for the nice comments and thank you Gary H for the tip on replicating buffer grease. We can all inspire each other. cheers Greg
  9. Hi guys not 40171 as it was a very early dual braker but a good match is 40184.
  10. Hi The chassis are modified Lima, added stretcher bars oleo buffers and cambrian bogies. But beware the plastic Lima used is not modeller friendly as it has a tendency to crack and shatter if carved with a scalpel.I found the best way to remove the original buffers is to drill out using a small 12volt power drill witch partly drills and melts off the original buffers allowing you to tidy up the buffer beam with a fine file ready for the new buffers.
  11. First of all I must thank Kier and Paul for posting more pics of the latest developments on the Shenston fleet. Also a big thank you to all those that have commented and liked etc, there have been valid points made and I must confess missing the a### about face plates on the bogie bolster e but in my defence of rebuilding 18 of these wagons in one go I did become a bit stir crazy. We are very lucky to have a web site were we can all share information to improve our observations and modelling skills so please feel free to comment. As far as photo composition is concerned the odd wagon or vehicle from the wrong era does creep in however hard we try .I have quite a broad time scale interest. pre- tops late 60s early 70s to recreate my train spotting days I also have stock from the late 70s 80s era, re creating memorable times of my working career which may sometimes accidentally photo bomb the scene.I have based the layout in the Black country, my birth place but I do not restrict and can not resist to have exotic stock run now and again..I myself am due to retire soon after over 40 years on the footplate so I hope to spend a bit more time improving and developing the layout ,stock and operation.Thank you all once again for your comments.
  12. Hi Mike or should I say Ola We worked the A.D. jc to Ditton sleepers to Crewe from Hereford. It ran as a class 8X## due to the Sturgeons having operating restrictions e.g. banned from running through platform crossovers.Check out Paul James Flickr site he has a couple of pics of a sleeper sturgeon put off at Craven Arms after running a hot box. It was later condemned on site. The sleepers were cut to length and transported to Ditton ready for pressure treating with bitumen. cheers Greg
  13. Hi There is a photo in R.W.Carroll collection that perfectly matches D1051 paint scar in front of number plate and oil stain on cab yellow panel, approaching Reading to your pic. I need to get out more lol cheers Greg
  14. Great shot Mike I have been searching for shots of D1057 in 1971 for my next weathering project for Shenston road.If their are any more out there it would be very much appreciated if they could be posted.
  15. Thanks again to Paul and Kier for posting the latests pics on my Gulf tanks. When seen on the screen in unforgiving magnification a couple of issues make them selves known which I will have to address.Hand brake wheel missing off 100t tank BRT20285 and also the barrier- wagon B350695 is missing a lot of internal detail.I will replace it with the latest Hornby body after removing the top line of rivets and then add the internal braces to represent the early style body. Thanks again to everyone who has commented. cheers Greg
  16. Thanks Paul for adding more pics.Just to add to your captions The R.T.B. cradled 16t is Bachman with added coil cradle and copied off Paul Bartletts article that appeared in M.R.C. many moons ago.The war-flat is one of three I built about 20 years ago is a beefed up Parkside with john Talbots end Jacks and buffers added as per pics I have sourced. The latest project was up dating my scratch built Gulf 100t heavy oil tanks again built 20 years with the superb sprung Colin Craig Esc-1 bogies. The Gulf 100t grey liveried tanks are Bachman re liveried and extra ladders added to represent a more accurate train for the early era. Thanks for the likes and comments guys and to all those who add the inspirational pictures that allow us to represent some long ago model. cheers Greg B.
  17. Super pics Paul .That shutter stop has made a massive improvement on what were already great pics,The down side is even more work to correct any bits that aint quite right lol. Thanks for the info Arthur all helps to improve on what we are trying to achieve. cheers Greg
  18. Hi Mark Thanks for the info, I guessed you would come up trumps.I will have a go at a couple. Hows things up north with FL? we have taken a hit again down here with the mothballing of the hot mill in Llanwern. regards Greg
  19. Thanks for the info guys, could do with a side on pic of those converted brake vans.I forgot about using MGRs but since remember I have some dvd footage somewhere showing the train with the hoppers in the consist. cheers Greg
  20. Hi Tony. Glad you enjoy the pics, I will try to get something on you tube in the future. cheers Greg
  21. Hi John, Arthur is spot on ,they are modified Trix hot metal torpedos .I am trying to find pics of the barrier wagons used between loco and each wagon when in transit on the main line. They were brake van chassis which I believe were ex L MS stanier types. cheers Greg
  22. Hi guys the over long nose handrails causing them to bend up or down are a simple fix and was the first one to have this problem out of 8 Dapol Westerns, more common on the Heljan Hymek. I prized off the handrails with a flat blade close to were they fit into the nose and then straitened them before re bending them 0.5 mm shorter then refitting with a dab of super glue on the center post for good measure.Well worth doing as it really does spoil the face of the loco as Paul's pics show. cheers Greg
  23. Hi Andy yes my mistake 'A' end its missing headboard clips.I have modified a Dapol 52 to D1005 for Shenston road so should have remembered that but my brain cell must have been otherwise engaged!!.Great flicker site Andy by the way. cheers Greg
