  1. . Nice to see someone who still remembers that the plural of "roof" is "rooves" ! .
  2. . The standard wartime TID tug (smallest) was used extensively around the UK after the war ; https://www.neomega-resin.com/1144th-scale-tid-tug-1097-p.asp They also do a 1/144th Clyde Puffer ; https://www.neomega-resin.com/1144th-clyde-puffer-1065-p.asp .
  3. . I've ordered one and am wondering whether the LSWR version would be seen more often with (Hatton's "Genesis") 6-wheelers, or the 4-wheelers ? Or was it more likely with bogie carriages ? Thanks. .
  4. . Craneman, Thanks for the very informative post. Re. civils work, how were spreader beams, particularly the longer ones transported ? Thanks .
  5. . So, does that mean they will extend the return date, or should everyone return theirs's now ? ( And, yes, I have bought some. ) .
  6. . I know that this is the "wrong" thread, but surely Hornby could produce their clerestories in other companies' colours ? .
  7. . Obviously the LSWR and at some time the SR had brake vans with red ends - presumably as a warning ? Is there a reason why they dropped it ? .
  8. . For Hattons Dave ; When the final livery samples are shown and upon release, are you intending to cover all varieties on this single thread, or will you do a new thread for each variety ? Both have advantages, and disadvantages. .
  9. . This may be better asked elsewhere, But I'll try here first. In the pre-grouping era, were inter-railway trains common, or were they mostly confined to their own rails. Obviously where railway companies had joint running rights (say out of a terminus) there would be a mixture of trains, but elsewhere ? I am thinking of something like Redhill where you might get a train from Ashford, or Tonbridge, and trains down the Brighton line, and also trains from Reading, or Guildford, or Basingstoke - so trains from at least three companies. But unless passengers had to always change, it would make sense for trains to have running rights over other sections, such that passengers could go from Ashford to Basingstoke without changing ? .
  10. . I am still awaiting an explanation as to why there are no SE&CR liveried coaches ? Anyone ? .
  11. . I may have missed a post covering it, but has anyone asked, or explained , why Hornby aren't doing what SEEMS to be the most popular pre-grouping livery - the SE&CR ? It is the railway with the most popular loco livery, but Hornby are ignoring them ? Seems very odd. .
  12. . The re- re-purposed E2 may look awful, but it is a (sort of) representation of a unavailable prototype AND it is in SE&CR livery ! It is my most favoured release of this year from Hornby, no matter how awful it is. Anyway, next year we can press for a new version based on the dreadfulness of the "present" version. .
  13. . What I want is a brand new, top-of-the range BR 16-ton mineral wagon.. Reasonably priced they could sell thousands. .
  14. . APART from the K-class, there are the Q-class 0-6-0s and U-class 2-6-0s and, of course, the L1 4-4-0 which Tri-ang did. The K-class could be popular as it was built in the LBSC era. AND, there are a load of EMUs, especially the 4-COR and 4-SUB. ------------ The LBSC C2 / C2X 0-6-0s are also a possibility. The C2X were a later rebuild with larger boilers, 29 of which had a very distinctive double dome. .
  15. . I am sure it is hidden in the nearly 50 pages of speculation, but does anyone know what nominal time the announcement is on Tuesday ? Thanks. .
  16. . In reality any "realistic" model railway will need approx 4 feet for running a train - 1 x loco and three coaches. Yes, you can get away with a tank engine and one or two coaches, but these were relatively rare and limits your options, one of the reasons the classic GWR branch line layouts were popular. I was "lucky", I grew up near the Wimbledon to West Croydon line which was run, at the time, by two single 2-EPB units running in opposite directions (and the daily freight was an irregular 0-6-0 loco with 4 to 10 wagons ! So, a 4-COR (whilst relatively rare running on its own, or other 4 vehicle set-ups are "realistic". .
  17. . At least two different static plastic kits available second-hand ; https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/164592576664?rt=nc&_trkparms=aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D225114%26meid%3Dc36c824e4da3436ea479ebc3116955f1%26pid%3D100677%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D30%26mehot%3Dnone%26sd%3D363228119802%26itm%3D164592576664%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2386202%26algv%3DDefaultOrganic%26brand%3DAirfix https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/363228119802?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&itemid=363228119802&targetid=1001771160931&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9045925&poi=&campaignid=10204071033&mkgroupid=100040608497&rlsatarget=pla-1001771160931&abcId=1145987&merchantid=114938952&gclid=CjwKCAiArbv_BRA8EiwAYGs23Ch3q00G_Sbo6IYCUS0Hz1pxF4XrZsqyjP1ez7yOzO-4SW3u7X-WpxoCA7EQAvD_BwE https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/164467989835?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&itemid=164467989835&targetid=876751517470&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9045925&poi=&campaignid=9445985920&mkgroupid=98729475311&rlsatarget=pla-876751517470&abcId=578896&merchantid=6995734&gclid=CjwKCAiArbv_BRA8EiwAYGs23DFMkySjZCAa7kv3e-ze4WXk57IUSBcHDd_Hta3byj98pZ1sZmTCzhoCvgQQAvD_BwE .
  18. . How about an industrial monorail ; https://www.irsociety.co.uk/Archives/16/Monorail.htm
  19. . Or, some BR (ex-LBSCR) Billinton K-class 2-6-0's (very handsome, and rather different to other Southern 2-6-0's). .
  20. . So, no excuse now for Bachmann not to produce a 4-COR. .
  21. . I think that the most popular version(s) would be the one(s) that actually went out into traffic. Who wants a model of a loco which just sat in the builder's yard ? .
  22. . The unpainted rims are (as I understood it) correct for the preserved models ??? .
  23. . That just means that we HAVE to try harder ! How about a LION ? .
