  1. . There is are two obvious solutions for retailers who want to commission their own models (maybe more) ; 1: Go into some form of "partnership" with an existing "small supplier", so instead of coming out for sale with a retailer's name on it it would be officially be produced by a third party. 2: Form a dummy company ( e.g. HattonRail anonymous ) and act like one of the "smaller suppliers". At the moment it would seem only the honest and upfront retailers are suffering. . .
  2. . May one of the supposedly cherised great unwashed ask the obvious question ; Who are the Band one (tier one) retailers ? This seems to be an obvious need for people who want a (nearly) guaranteed pre-order of a Hornby future release. Obviously every retailer knows their status (although it may change), why shouldn't the poor sods paying for the product ? .
  3. . Can you get a quote, or statement, from Hornby ? Not so much about their contractual arrangements with Hattons, but more will they be able to fulfil all their orders with other retailers (including the "overflow" from the cancelled Hattons' orders) ? .
  4. . Where's the "sympathy" button ? .
  5. . As with "mvwilson" I too have had a whole swathe of Hornby orders at Hattons cancelled - I assume that this is Hornby's responsibility. I will try ordering from a more local retailer. This whole problem is giving Hornby a bad reputation. .
  6. . There is no SPECIFIC problem of corrosion between aluminiun and steel, THERE IS A GENERAL PROBLEM between any two different metals (and sometimes even different alloys). This is known as Galvanic Corrosion ; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanic_corrosion And has been taught to engineering students since at least the early 60's (and known about before). There are lots of "get rounds", but a basic knowledge of the "Galvanic Series" and "Anodic index" will guide designers, see ; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanic_corrosion All this should be basic bread-and-butter knowledge to a designer. .
  7. . https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-56846467 (Pictures on web page) Mission Impossible: 'Buzz' in village as quarry train scene set up People in a village where a train is set to be driven into a quarry as part of the next Mission: Impossible film say there is a "buzz" in the area. Construction of a track has started at Darlton Quarry in Stoney Middleton, Derbyshire. According to a planning document, the production company behind the spy films, starring Tom Cruise, has been given permission to film there. Filming is expected to take place between April and June. Applicant Jupiter Springs Production Ltd was granted planning permission to construct a set, "including a railway line through the fields and part of a bridge over the cliff edge", at the quarry and fields around it. Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 are listed as projects the company is currently working on, according to the Film & Television Industry Alliance's website. Pete Grafton, the owner of Toll Bar Fish & Chips in the village, said "everyone is talking about it". "It has brought a smile to people's faces. It is good for business and good for morale," he said. Mr Grafton said his staff had even got into the spirit by wearing Tom Cruise masks. "We say he may be Top Gun but he is not top fryer. It makes people laugh," he said. In the planning documents on the Peak District National Park's website, it states permission was required "for use of a disused quarry for film-making for 20 weeks, including construction of a temporary set". It says a train "will run off" the railway line on a "partial bridge structure", and part of the quarry floor will also be excavated to create a water-filled tank. It adds: "On the two shoot days, there will be noisy activities taking place (sound of a train coming off the quarry face and some controlled explosions); these will be during the day and will all be of short duration. "The production will make a donation to local parish or community groups as a gesture of goodwill, and in recognition of the disruption (albeit limited and temporary)." Imtiaz Ahmed, owner of the Curry Cottage in Stoney Middleton, said: "People are quite excited about it. "Everyone who comes in does mention it. It will go down in history." Anonymous photographer Villager Jim, who lives nearby, said: "It is absolutely amazing. "About one month ago a pal of mine mentioned they were building something in the quarry and he saw permission for this railway track. It has been leaked out that it is Mission: Impossible. "We have heard he [Tom Cruise] has visited once - a quick stay with a helicopter." Denzil Watson, from Sheffield, said he was walking near the quarry at the weekend. He said: "One lady said Tom Cruise has been in the quarry. "She was saying there has been a lot of helicopter activity. He was right down on the floor of the quarry getting hands on." He added: "There's a real buzz around Stoney. It is really exciting." Tom Cruise has already recorded scenes for the latest instalment of Mission: Impossible on a vintage railway in Yorkshire earlier this month. Ladybower Reservoir's "plug hole" was also used to create a CGI scene in previous Mission: Impossible film Rogue Nation. .
  8. . Excellent. Now, which 1 / 2 / more companies will produce "generic" short bogie coaches suitable for being hauled by this lovely loco in SECR livery ? .
  9. . Thanks -- now I know which one to order. .
  10. . Can anyone confirm which version(s) the second and third photos represent (they look identical to me; dark green, yellow lining, white connecting rods etc, brown under side tanks and to frame above front bogie ? Thanks .
  11. . It would be nice if the appropriate dates in service were added for each livery version. .
  12. . It will be the same item as announced by another manufacturer tomorrow - but don't worry it has been under development for months. .
  13. . Excellent news, a quiet, but efficient piece of customer service (as with KR and their bogie frame). Other manufacturers could learn a lesson. .
  14. . So, how many of those who moaned and moaned about the "hub caps" have actually fitted them ? Don't be shy. .
  15. Received an e-mail this morning giving this link; https://railsofsheffield.com/manufacturer-rails-connect-JJJM197
  16. . Thanks for all the replies, particularly "Rivercider". .
  17. . In 1963 (?) the Southern Region began using Class 42/43 Warships on semi-fast services to the West Country, were any of the early services run using Warships without small yellow warning panels, or by maroon coloured Warships ? Thanks. .
  18. . Huge campus outside of the town. If you want to watch the typical climate, search out the BBC Wales crime series "Hinterland" (in either its Welsh, or English, version) - rain, rain, rain ! The series revolves around a mythical childrens's home at Devil's Bridge (where the Vale of Rheidol railway runs to - and the railway is NEVER shown ! .
  19. . Thanks for the update, but it gives rise to more questions ; ( I note Graham "Muz" reply above ; "... They all started out in Adams pea green with black edging and a single white line. From 1896, livery became Drummond "royal" green with purple brown edging and white-black-white lining and from about 1916, Urie's olive green with black edging and a single white line. In Southern days, this livery was continued but the green got darker from about 1925. The other main changes were that the Adams brass number plates were replaced by transfer numerals from about 1905 and Drummond chimneys began to replace the Adams stovepipes shortly after ..." ) 1: What approximate dates is Urie "sage" green livery applicable to ? 2: Is the livery lined, or plain ? 3: Does anyone have an appropriate photo ?
  20. . 1: I agree with Steamport Southport about the couplings - I ASSUME that Rapido will need to sort out with Hornby about whether they can use the Rocket style coupling, or else come up with an equivalent free from copyright ? 2: IF people would remember, "back in the day" (!) - April Fools were only allowable up to mid-day on the 1st of April. Some people here (including hopefully Rapido) have remembered that, many seem to have forgotten. 3: As a selfish consumer, unless one of the manufacturers falls out the present leaves me in a quandary. Which one will be released first, and which one will be better detailed / more "accurate" ? At least with Hornby we will need to get our pre-orders in early, or possibly lose out, that may also apply to Rapido ??? I would probably go for the better detailed one, but when will I know ? This will invite doubling up of orders (order one from each) and then cancelling the loser - not something I would particularly wish to do. We will see. .
  21. . Now, if only Bachmann did videos for their railway releases ; .
