  1. . CK, Thanks for all the info. Whilst the weather SEEMS to have calmed down, is it considered that the present state of works would survive a new storm ? Obviously the damaged section is being repaired to a standard to withstand new storms. What are the plans for the remainder of the wall, will this be subject to modifications over the next few months/years to upgrade it to a similar level of protection ? .
  2. . It is normal to add mesh to mass concrete even if it is only expected to be in compression. This is to help guard against cracking formed by differential settlement, etc ....... A lot depends on the way the concrete is laid and how the underlying surface is expected to behave. Joints between mass concrete pours are another area of possible detail differences.
  3. . I'm somewhat confused as to why there isn't a single "Southern" themed train set or train pack in the recent announcements. .
  4. . That undermining of the houses screams underlying geological weakness (or some extremely poor recent surveys) - and putting that right will make the Cambrian Coast problems in the shade. Out until Autumn at the earliest I would say, and the cost will be horrendous. Also, the bus replacement service arrangements are going to be HIGHLY AMUSING ! .
  5. . Was the E2 the only full scale (i.e. not "preserved") BR era RTR loco never released in a BR livery ? .
  6. . There is an obvious opportunity to gather these "tales of the old days" into a new thread. .
  7. . I note that the Model Rail "Facebook" page states ; " ....... Note the much-improved body and cab shape, fine etched metal details and extra detail under the bufferbeam. ......." However, nothing regarding any changes to the much criticised roof. .
  8. . I know that the E2 was pretty awful, but surely it would be suitable for a "Railroad" release ? .
  9. .. Obvious answer to the problem, buy an "early" and a "late" version and switch their tenders around A more interesting point is that the Hornby 2014 releases announcement showed quite advanced engineering prototype models of both the 700-class and 2-HAL - so when might we expect them ? .
  10. . Received my R.3162As today - so Father Christmas has some wrapping to do. .
  11. . Well, any in service version really should appear in a very faded, powdery blue finish. .
  12. . Just to say thanks for all your work on the Southern blog and a happy Christmas (and sorry for mis-spelling your name). ( P.S. any comment on the Model Rail editorial ? ) .
  13. . Grahme Muz posted links to updated CADs on the Kernow facebook page on his blog - it says that there is still some work to do ; https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.643897945651756.1073741847.207521425956079&type=1 .
  14. . Grahme Muz posted links to updated CADs on the Kernow facebook page on his blog - it says that they hope to start production around Christmas ; https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.643895638985320.1073741846.207521425956079&type=1 .
  15. . THANK YOU ! . . . OLDDUDDERS, Joseph_Pestell and especially Peter Heather for that. Those photos are great ( I did once see a Q1 go through West Croydon with quite a long coal train (presumably for Waddon Marsh ) but even I could spot that one at a tender age. .
  16. . . As a schoolboy using Mitcham station in the 1960s, it was fun seeing the staff being arranged for late running trains with the porter using the wooden crossing (occasionally whilst a train was in sight). Can you recall whether the goods were hauled by a c-class (in steam times) or E4 or ??????? PART of the attraction of Tramlink I THINK is the prospect of "free" travel. .
  17. . I don't really care one way or another, however by using the number it means, either ; a: It has spoilt the chance of a later "name plate" version being produced, OR b: All that is needed is an set of etched name plates and a "spare" tender. Which would be better ? I don't know. If they had produced a different number version how good would the sales have to be to eventually produce a "preserved" version ? .
  18. . Interesting that those photos above ( 7.44 ) SEEM to show different coloured driving axles on the left and right sides. I ASSUME that it is just the way the light catches the axles in the bottom photo that makes them look more like brass than blackened steel. .
  19. . Oh dear - that means that I've got to buy that one know ( I was scared it might have some fancy modern bits and pieces on it ). Thanks for the info. .
  20. . An S-15 A 4-COR A centre coach for a 2-EPB (to make them into 4-EPBs) A centre coach for a 2H DEMU to make them into 3Hs A Q-class An R1 class etc ...................................................................................................................... . . Oh ! and an Adams Radial. . .
  21. . Exactly ! Oxford realise this for cars and WW2 vehicles, but lorries seemingly pass them by. .
  22. . Yes. The 50s and 60s saw a huge amount of construction work and hence construction traffic. In addition, for some reason the very common short wheelbase lorries which were very common in the period seem to be immune to the attention of die-cast manufacturers. AND, as stated before, the WW2 army lorries should be available in "civilian" guise. ( In particular re. the tipper lorries - although I would prefer another, more popular, make - what about a tipper from the film "Hell Drivers" ? ) .
  23. This ? ; http://s89.photobucket.com/user/ramc181/media/Continuation%20Album%201/AQM2.jpg.html From here ? ; http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/archive/index.php/t-37139.html
  24. . I didn't expect it for £90, but at that price I think it will not be a great seller.
  25. . What to do with a Hornby 4-VEP ? http://www.theguardian.com/film/2013/oct/06/british-film-the-last-passenger .
