  1. . Excellent news. I was wondering how will you match that particular shade of green, it always SEEMED a bit pale compaired with BR Brunswick Green, and the loco you scanned looks rather the worse for wear. Good luck.
  2. . Irrespective of individual model's disappointment - what it really means is that these models miss the Christmas market which means that Hornby's cash flow is affected and possibly overall sales. They really must do better. .
  3. . Well this bit interested me ; "......... however this new division is not just interested in producing adhoc and random locomotives, but have established a development plan of introductions not seen in the UK for many years. CEO Lyndon Davies explained. "I, along with my development team have been closely monitoring, for several years the interest in model railways especially in the UK and now believe that the time is right for Oxford Rail to enter the market. Anyone who knows me is aware that I would not be interested in just introducing the odd locomotive. We have a rolling planned introduction program based on extensive market research, as well as sitting down and talking to the modeller, and more importantly listening! I am determined that Oxford Rail will be seen and judged on the integrity and the quality of our models that I, along with my team will be offering. Our first model, which I am really excited about will be the Adams Radial, Class 415 but there will be other items announced in the not too distant future and not all will be locomotives. ............" .
  4. . I find the thread rather tedious, but I assume that the poem refers to a family history, and that MIGHT tie in with the loss of the "grandfather" in WW1, with Remembrance Sunday next week
  5. . ASSUMING, that the rumours that it will be an Adams Radial is true and seeing that Oxford advertise themselves as "surprisingly affordable"), AND ASSUMING that there will be at least one other Radial announced, which MAY be more expensive but more accurate ( who knows ) - then are there other locos which might benefit from a 4-4-2 chassis ? .

. Dave, Will you be going to Warley ? Will there be anything to see at Warley ? Will you announce anything at Warley ? Thanks. .
  7. . The one SR loco that people REALLY want ( although I am sure that I could force myself to buy a couple of Adams or "H"'s ). ------ And, although I would never buy one, why has no one announced a GWR Steam-Railmotor ? .
  8. . Dave is there much of a difference in "re-numbering" a loco ? Now Kernow will, presumably, order as large a batch of each initial model/number as they think they can easily sell. Sooner or later they may think it a good idea to re-run one or several of the options. Now a straight re-run will be an easy quote for the production manufacturer, but IF Kernow wanted to change a running number would that add a couple of quid to the price, or would it be a major expense ? I say this out of pure self-interest, as I would like a second "late-crest" mainland model and I wonder what the economics would be for Kernow to order one AT A LATER DATE. .
  9. . .................. And I wonder if wishlists might well have contributed to this state of affairs as folk with little else in the way of background or knowledge, and possibly even limited direct contact with modellers, simply cherry pick high scorers off wishlists? . The Adams Radials have been high on peoples desires, magazine letter pages and various wishlists for ages (decades) - no one has been unaware of their charisma. They are both "cute" and elegant (and for the cost conscious "small"). What I think has changed is that small manufacturers (such as "OO Works") and retailer commissions have demonstrated that the major R-T-R manufacturers can be out manouevered. Having said that as a Southern Region modeller I have been really pleased with the 2-EPB, C-Class, 700 class and forthcoming E-4, these are "workhorses" which may not be glamorous, but were often found in the background of photos of the more famous engines. I have "rewarded" the manufacturers by orders for several each of these workhorses, but is that enough ? Now, based on the last few years "wishlist" results I expect the S-15 4-6-0 to be high up and that is another of those essential workhorses, BUT, if I were a R-T-R manufacturer would I produce that, or go for a high-ranking "glamour" class ? Despite my desire for the workhorse S-15 I know that, if produced, I will buy one each of the accurate last three Adams no matter that they would only have appeared on my theoretical layout as one-off visitors whereas the S-15 would be clanking around all the time. "Workhorse" versus "glamour" - that is the real problem for the R-T-R manufacturers, and I certainly don't know the answer. ------------ P.S. I agree with the rest of your post, and IF it sets out the true situation, I will be waiting for the manufacturer who intends to produce accurate representations of the last three examples - but I have been waiting for an Adams Radial since I saw a picture of one in the back of a Triang-Wrenn catalogue in the 70s, so a few more months won't worry me ! .
  10. . Oxford already do the Allegro, why do you need anything else ?
  11. . IF ONLY they started releasing their WW2 range in civilian colours for 50's austerity Britain. .
  12. . I ASSUME that towards the end of their lives some were used by the Engineers Department, if so that would make a good option. .
  13. . Sort of ditto. I bought an R 6683 and R6683A - but as above the model inside was the same "E1341E" as shown in Coachman's post #59 above. So, you must check.
  14. . Any indication of what "weathering" will be applied to K2205 ( Class 1361 Class number 1365 in BR Black livery with late crest and weathered finish) ?
  15. . Excellent news, I think that these will keep the scenic modellers happy for years. Will it push Hornby into re-considering the Double Fairlie ? Will it get Peco to produce replica "sectional" track ? --------- I must admit that when I first read the news I missed the bit about the L & B Station - THAT is a really good bit of thinking. Now, can someone post a link to a video showing how those maddening 009 couplings work (or will the models come with NEM pockets so that we can use N-guage ones ? .
  16. . Excellent news - AND before the end of the year - I think Santa may have an easy decision this year. ( Edit - and I have now ordered one. ) .
  17. . On this page ; https://sites.google.com/site/colescranedatabase/scale-models/models-others You will see a picture of an " Unknown make of an OO gauge die cast model of the small Neals GM crane." (although I think it is a white metal kit ???????) See picture here ; https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-8c3KF3kXY7k/UTiSqhao1xI/AAAAAAAAEqQ/yVJPEvxSbt4/s200/Coles-toys-others-neal-GM-00-rail%2Bscale-18.jpg Does anyone know which company produced the model, or even have one available ? Thanks. .

    Ask Dave

Thanks for the reply. Do you know something that we don't ? With the 100th anniversary of WW1 coming up there is scope there for 009 locos and small diesels. Good luck with whatever you decide. .
  19. . Any detail on which livery each will be in ?

. Some questions/assumptions, if possible ; 1: I assume that you will be watching the sales of the Peco (and future Heljan) 009 r-t-r models with interest - would more r-t-r locos be of interest to you or are they another too expensive for the perceived market ? 2: You, presumably, have an idea of the economics/profit levels of the very popular Dapol operating signals - would you be interested in such items as an operating level crossing or other operating items ???????? 3: It is often said that a high quality railway crane (whether medium or large) would be too expensive due to the cost involved in the crane jib girder work and exposed pulleys/gears, etc ....... Is that sort of model something that you can see being within your scope in a few years time ? ( Thanks for your helpfulness ). .
  21. . Good luck, I am really looking forward to this model
  22. . Did you have any problems getting the weight/balance "right" to give decent haulage ?
  23. . Why aren't the same standards applied to zebra or pelican crossings ? What is it about reporters (and at least one court) that they blame National Rail rather than people who do something reckless ? .
  24. . The Smell ! THE SMELL ! ! ! ! ! I lived in Mitcham from 1960 to 1968 and often went to Croydon by train on a Saturday (and latterly for a couple of years to school). You didn't need to look out of the window to know when you were going past the gas works and power station. Despite all my journeys past, the industrial locos seem to have been welded to the rails ! There is a small pamphlet on the locomotives of Croydon power stations, but unfortunately it doesn't have many photos and they are small and of poor quality. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0000E8QAO/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller= http://kcselectrics.co.uk/croydon-power-stations/ .
