  1. Take a day off to visit mother-in-law and come back to find Allan has not only built a castle but managed to educate the rest of us numpties how to do it into the bargain. Top stuff Allan.
  2. Nice lighting, especially like those lamps. Your platforms have turned out really well, bet you're proud of them. I can see that you chose to use peco stone sheet same as me. Mine were quite hard to do on the slope and curve. I had fun with the ramps! Slaters do midland stile ramp fencing BTW.
  3. Was just thinking about hitting the sack early as I'm "cream crackered" and my favouite brother in law rings up all exited about a heavy metal band playing tonight in town. Some people just have too much energy!
  4. Been a while since my last update. Goathland remains in storage and will not be making an appearance at this years local show due to too much being on my plate. The garage conversion had a real boost today with the help from two family members who are pro drywallers. Thanks guys! I owe you both. Last week................. 8AM this morning....................... 3PM this afternoon....... Magic!!!!! And yes, Dumb arse has gone and gotten a pannel saw......
  5. Hi Chris, Yes, it works very well too! I cut all three on my chop saw at once, that way they are equal in length. All my boards have a male and female end. The Dunster boards have a lip added on the underside also, which helps with assembly. Regards Shaun
  6. Plenty of coffee, and some Total Domination india pale ale, which is an Oregon brew that we all go nuts over! Also some turkey sandwiches made with hickory smoked turkey, dijon mustard, lettuce, red onion and avacardo for lunch! Regards Shaun.
  7. Hi Don. Off to bed early as we have the pro's brother-in-law and father-in-law coming at 8am to do the drywall in the garage/train room conversion. I should be exited but its' -2 outside and only 10 pm! BRrrrrrr
  8. You might find that they are called 'tac cloths' local hardawre store, about $1.80 here! Messers Downs and Robinson use PVA to achieve realistic water, it's gluppy so can be formed easily and dries clear . Cheap and simple. Although I haven't tried it.
  9. You need to wire wool that varnish between coats and clean it with a tac cloth or damp lint free rag to achieve a sheen.
  10. Wonderful Allan. Whats the building on extreme left of the second pic in post 2132? looks like it might have something to do with the fishing industry, what ever it is it's very interesting. Your use of every day objects to make the light house is inspiring!
  11. Am so missing modeling at present, and so green with envy! Keep these inspirational posts coming!!
  12. I'd just love to ride a Gillera 180 through there, I bet the compression is nuts! Dream on huh!!
  13. On the other hand I get really exited when they get it right. We were watching something the other night set in the 60s where the conversation took place on board a train. A nice clean wood veneered second corridor mk1. It must have been boring as that is the only bit we can remember!
  14. Here here!! You forgot to mention modelers who are cut off/exiled etc. Thats the whole Sasquatch point, he's so lost in his own enviroment up in the woods most people don't even believe he exists! I'm the only one who's seen my layouts on here!! So when Sasquatch wins the lottery he'll hire jet and bring Goathland to an exhibition in England.
  15. Now thats just creepy. Very cool! but creepy. We stayed in and watch the best of Wil Farrell! A couple of years ago we did the sixties Batman & Robin, over weight and outta fit style!
  16. Today I opened picasa on the lab top and found a file called "Dads Layout" from 2012 hidden in Mrs. Sasqutches files. So here are some more pics. That foot bridge again with Cleggie from Last Of The Summer Wine using it. I've no space to put the loader structures! Nice shot my boy got. Most of the stock here is either kit or scratch built. Tunnel mouth. Spot the wild life? Aaarrhhh...... I'm outta here....
  17. You could use low volt bulbs in the lamps and wire them with filament wire super glued one each down the inside posts and soldered to tiny brass plates on the bottom! Easy!
  18. Apart from my favourite pic of our so much beloved footbridge in the post above are any of these useful to you two. That little waterfall showing all kinds of concrete and vegitation Apart from all the RMwebbers ignoring the warnings in the open second behind the EL type3 this pic shows that rarely seen corner the the left quite well. In this pic note the scaring to the bank behind the station ( I don't know what these are), sandwich shop door and the ferns in the foreground. Sars again, curtains in the downstairs windows, window in back of office and that coach is a Hawksworth BG I believe. Too many fences. There's a wealth of detail in this fantastic pic but most worthy of note is the gradients. This is the bit I'll have space for in my new building. Trouble is what goes down must come up some where else. It looks like a bit of stone retaining wall but there is cable trunking,a catch point, signal, facing point lock, ballast bin, etc all needed to capture the scene.
  19. Thanks for the encouragement. There's a brass kit in the post of a D&S GN 6wheeled CCT. This is a mighty huge step. The Bill Bedford NE bogie full brake I had sitting in my kits box for years got put on eBay as it looked too hard but that was 10 years ago now! This is another scratch build. And this guy never looks happy
  20. Thankyou for taking the time to provide me with this information. To tell the truth I haven't a clue what locos worked the line in revenue earning service. All the motive power you see in the pics comes from my life long collection of RTR offerings and believe me when I say the camera doesn't get pointed at such things as flying bananas and cromptons. LNER days........ I have been pondering about back dating the layout for months. Moving the signals should be easy and making the whinestone loading structures would keep me very happy but if the footbridge is removed the platform will look all wrong and there will be a siding short. Locomotives..... The G5s I know about and have made bids on these when they come up for auction on eBay. Baring in mind I have only put together one white metal loco kit and am no engineer of brass! The J24 would make a great scratch building project. I have an L1 albeit in the wrong livery (Edit: oh I miss read that or was confused. The loco in my pics is a V3 ) and the latest goodies from Liverpool included a 105 2 car set, the cats wiskers!! Some of the NYMR preserved locos in the collection include D5061, 76079 mogul, 04 D2207 and 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley which has been in the paint shop for months (Note to self, get it out and get on with it). Goathland Layout's New home..... Massive plans and undertakings are afoot. The dry wallers are booked for Saturday next week, now that the building has passed electrical inspection and had the walls insulated. There's not any modeling going on due to a damp and structural problem in the living room which is taking up all my time and energy. Happy Halloween. Sasquatch. Scaring the living daylights out of the trick or treaters.
  21. Greetings to you too my friend. I just realised we are almost on opposite sides of the world give or take a few 100 miles!
