  1. 4SRKT engine carrier at Eastleigh, 11th October 2005. Used to move DEMU engines between Eastleigh and St Leonards ( and maybe other works). I believe one is preserved at St Leonards. Are the Eastleigh vehicles still there? Would make an interesting model!

  6. Finally gone - such a shame http://www.marcmodels.co.uk/
  7. I suspect tnat this catered for the holidaymakers. We lived opposite the Bo-peep pub and I remenber numbers of people trailing down West Hill Road from West St Leonards lugging suitcases to catch the bus along to Combe Haven Caravan Park every Saturday. Is it time for a Demu thread?
  8. I promised better photos of the Model Junction display, so here it is. Hard to photo with so many reflections. Currently not working due to Covid-19 restrictions on numbers in the shop.
  9. Still one in Model Junction, Bury St Edmunds. Sorry for the rubbish image. I'll get a better one next time I'm in there. Still fully operational. There was one in Bressingham last time I visited there
  10. Model Junction in Bury St Edmunds is reopening on the 15th June. Only maximum 4 customers at a time and card payment only for now. Click and Collect and Mail Order working normally (as far as anything is right now) See the first splash page at https://www.model-junction.co.uk/
  11. What about the RT models castings & etchings? I have a set in the 'to do' pile for one of my class N's and nice castings and etching they are.
  12. St Leonards West Marina just before closure was pretty grim. We lived in one of the white railway houses overlooking the station. Great for train spotting although wild in a south-westerly gale. Sorry no pictures but several online. edit 13/5/20 Found the photo Dad took in 1958 just before we moved here from Eastleigh. The station was in a poor state. The huge building in the background was Pickfords warehouse, originally was to have been the station hotel when West Marina was the LBSC terminus, but was never used as a hotel. I remeber cirus trains arriving here and the whole lot, elephants and all, marching off the the circus ground and Glyne Gap The timber yard burned down a few years later. The area looks nothing like this now. Photo: My copyright.
  13. Model Junction in Bury St Edmunds published this on their Facebook page and website: "Unfortunately we are taking the tough decision to close the shop from 3pm this afternoon (23.03.20) for the forseeable future while the Covid-19 virus settles down. We may offer a local delivery service over the next few days but we will have to see what advice is given in today's government update. We will keep everyone informed here and on our website for when we are due to re open. Hopefully we make it out the other side." They are hoping to maintain mail order for as long as that is possible.
  14. Microsol and Microset (or the MiG equivalents) are what you need. Start with a gloss paint finish. Microset onto the area where the decal will sit. Apply decal in the usual way. Use a cotton bud to (carefully) flatten the decal, beware of cotton fibres. leave to dry. Airbubbles or non-flat surface? - add Microsol - this softens the decal and allows it to flatten properly. Don't try and move the decal at this stage or it may dissolve into tine pixels! Always practice first on a non-valuable vehicle. Cheap airfix planes are good to practice on until you feel confident. Lots of info and youtube videos online. You should be able to sort your existing issue out with Microsol - may need several applications but allow to dry between each. Don't try and move the decal. Hope this helps
  15. What you need is the Blood and Custard website: http://www.bloodandcustard.com/ Excellent resource for SR units and paint dates.
  16. Take a look at this website - may be of use. http://www.bulleidlocos.org.uk/_ldr/ldrClass.aspx Agree about 'The Leader Project - Fiasco or Triumph?' by Kevin Robertson - fascinating stuff.
  17. I use this train quite often to get from Ely to Sheffield, Manchester and Liverpool. The catering on this service operates west of Nottingham and is pretty good, but after Nottingham eastbound you need to take your own supplies. Except on peak trains it may be hard to justify catering beyond Nottingham eastbound. On the peak trains the trolley would never get through.
  18. What's on your mind?
