  1. Evening all from Estuary-Land. Not much fuss from Arthur Itis but the joints tend to stiffen up if I stay in the same position for too long. So I'm going to stretch my legs and then tackle Farcebook.
  2. No comment necessary. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/boris-johnson-elections-polling-station-b2538777.html
  3. Staithes harbour, Yorkshire 1915.
  4. Having worked on more polls than I care to remember I can assure anyone who has doubts the the ballot is entirely secret. The marked ballot papers are kept securely as Tony said above and then are incinerated still sealed. They can only be opened with permission of a high court judge.
  5. They don't show the bit where he offered to grease her nipples.
  6. The nearest thing here in the UK to the RFDS has got to be the RNLI which is also funded by charitable donations. The main difference is that the lifeboats are crewed by volunteers who are unpaid (with a few exceptions). And of course they often put their own lives in danger.
  7. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. We may have had a thunderstorm last night but if we did I must have slept through it. The seaweed twirlers have predicted some more for this afternoon but they can never be sure exactly where. I will be 76 in a couple of months time and my driving licence renewal dropped through the letterbox a couple of days ago. I will shortly be doing that on-line, my eyesight is up to scratch and I have no medical problems that will affect my ability to drive so there's no problem.
  8. It appears to be a GWR diagram van. Perhaps someone can identify the diagram/lot number. I seem to remember a plastic kit for a very similar vehicle being produced.
  9. No, thats his cousin the roofer. (A tyle is an old name for a brick).
  10. Bin day today, we are given lockable containers by the council for food waste. This morning it was not in the place I had left it and when I checked the foxes had got in to it but just scattered a few bits around. Oddly I had put the handle in the upright position to lock the bin and it was still locked. It's known for the cleverer foxes to unlock the bins but they don't usually lock them again afterwards.
  11. They look delicious but think of the calories.
  12. Morning all from Estuary-Land. Five solid hours sleep last night then I woke up to the rain and hail hitting the window. However I went back to sleep for another couple of hours without disturbing bladder control. Even Arthur Itis was behaving himself. Not sure what to do today, I've already voted by post so there's no reason to go out.
  13. The same applies to Che Guevara and the Castro's. The Castro's were at one time supported by the FBI (because of Batista's links with the mafia) but that was stopped when the mafia obtained some compromising photographs of J Edgar Hoover. So the Castro's went to the only other world power, Russia for help which was given on condition that they espoused communism. That resulted in the Cuban missile crisis.
  14. I can't think of any revolution that didn't start from the middle or even upper classes. Even the Peasants Revolt leaders, Wat Tyler and John Ball came from an emerging middle class. John Ball was literate at a time when even many of the aristocracy were not and Wat Tyler was a self employed businessman. Some of those who followed them were themselves minor aristocracy. However in the aftermath the minor aristocrats got the equivalent of a slap on the wrist whereas those peasants who had merely stood on the sidelines shouting found themselves hanging from a rope. Wat Tyler is seen as a working class hero, so much so that there is a country park named after him in Pitsea, the tories when they were in power on the local council tried to rename the park but that was not successful because people still used the original name. Ironically Wat Tyler if he was alive today would probably be a self employed builder with a copy of the SUN on the dashboard of his Transit van and voting tory.
  15. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Martin_(farmer) Tony Martin was a bit of a nut case. His shotgun licence had been taken away from him by Norfolk police because he used a shotgun to threaten some people who had strayed onto his land. He then obtained an illegal shotgun, a repeater that could hold five cartridges. With this he shot a couple of scrotes breaking into his farmhouse killing one of them and injuring another.
  16. I'm possibly descended from a pirate as well. Unfortunately a lot of the relevant records were lost in the fire of London in 1666. My fathers side of the family were watermen going back several generations based at Gravesend and were almost certainly involved in smuggling.
  17. Evening all from Estuary-Land. The seaweed twirlers say we might have thunderstorms and it feels like it, very muggy tonight.
  18. His killer attacked a prison guard while inside. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/david-bieber-life-prison-ian-broadhurst-alison-smith-b2230699.html When he gets out he'll be on a plane back to the US in the company of a US Marshall to face another trial.
  19. William Shatner has discontinued his new line of lingerie. Apparently, Shatner panties wasn’t the best choice for a name.
  20. I think someone has already converted an Oxford road roller to 'Titfield' guise.
  21. Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I was hoping to do some of the G word this afternoon but the hay fever says no. Plenty of other stuff to do such as the washing, oh Frabjoy.
  22. These jokes about Uranus really are the bottom.
  23. A couple of days ago @Tony_S suggested that @polybear should move to Essex. This is something that might encourage him. The bakery produces some very nice cakes.
