  1. Try pricking the silvering with the tip of a scaple blade and go over it with your decal solution (preferably something strong like Micro Sol)
  2. Plently more still to do inc relaying the track on one corner and sorting the wires.
  3. With all the accesories painted I have finished off adding details to the open coach, the NEVA set and #606. With details on I went looking on the web for some proto pics for weathering and came up with a clear 3/4 view looking down on the roof https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b4/CH_RhB_Ge44_I_606.JPG Comparing it to my efforts on #605 my first effort aas way too heavy. So out came the thinners and both loco roofs were cleaned up. I started again with a grey brown wash to being out the various panel lines then a blowover with some highly diluted Tamiya acrylic
  4. Long time, no post.... With no show booked for Santa Maria until Oct I hadnt really pushed on with the work needed on the layout and with Covid-19 I'm balancing the client loco painting / weathering and DCC fitting with the boys home schooling. However......with still a good few pieces of stock needing their details fitting I've started slipping these into the work shedule when there are priming jobs on the go. Currently on the bench a Aussichtswagen and a Ge 4/4 i
  5. I've managed to change the decoder address from 9999 to 9990 via my programming set up of JMRI running through a Sprog II. Once the address was changed the individual servo setting were done as per the Digikeijs manual with no problems. It was a while ago that I did this but I do seem to remember that to get the address changed I needed to keep pressing the power button on the decoder / control to keep it awake. If you can get the JMRI to talk to the decoder it does have a set of definitions for the servo driver so you can do lot of setting 'off layout' if you wish Dan
  6. Model Railway Solutions (Poole) were apparently looking to start importing the Tru Color range of railroad paints. I registered an interest in some prior to the current situation and am awaiting an update https://trucolorpaint.com/products/paint/ https://www.modelrailwaysolutions.co.uk/cms/ Dan
  7. I bought a bottle on the back of the Flory Models review and, having used it a couple a times for gluing clear plastics, its sat in a drawer since. Having got said bottle out today its turned brown. Have yet to test whether it still sticks

  12. Will be there with the Surrey and Sussex Black Sheep!
  13. I think it might be a cyclical thing. Since I've built "Galatia" and "Hacienda Ave" my US modelling has taken a bit of a back seat to build my Swiss HOm layout but I'm still running a US Freemo meet, member of NMRA British Region and Chair + Exhibition Manager of Seaboard Southern (local NMRA group) and I've started dabbling on 0n30 California logging. My main problem (in HO) is finding some inspiration for a new compact layout that isnt just rehashing my previous layouts.
  14. Just to clarrify for the small nuts make sure that they are Marine Grade so you can be sure they wont rust in your paint. For mixing you might also consider a cheap mixing device in the form of generic Nail Polish shakers that are pretty plentiful on e-bay Dan
  15. No progress on the snag list arising from Warley due to client work, Christmas and the garage being too cold! However I did treat myself to a set of 4 Uce cement tanks off Ebay at a very reasonable price (water damaged boxes). Now they are weathered I can thinks about that 'to do' list

  17. There will be a number of Swiss outline layouts there as its a significant anniversary for the Swiss Railway Society.
  18. Santa Maria was built on G&H custom spec baseboard kits. Very efficient company to deal with andhave been very pleased with the 14 odd baseboards I've had from them for various projects Dan
  19. When I took my old layout 'Galatia' to Warley a couple of years back we had to give up on the JMRI / Sprog / Digitrax wireless system we were trying to use the volume of traffic. Admittedly my wireless router wasnt the best but I'm not sure it would work any better given an upgrade.

  21. So back from a great weekend at the Warley show. With the first trip out with the full catenary it proved to be a bit of a voyage of discovery with the much discussed return curve at one end of the layout proving to be somewhat troublesome. After some "fetttling" on Saturday morning all but one of the loco roster was able to run pan up but a more permanent solution is now planned with adding a minimum of one extra post and shorter links to be able to run the wire upright over the curve and maintain contact on the pantograph. Other than that bit of stress the layout ran well and it was great to chat to an good number of Swiss railways enthuiasts and swap knowledge and tips both prototype and model. While the layout has pushed forward operating at the show as highlighted a few more jobs to do inc light displays to show the throw of the points and the addition of the small details around the station. http://2019-11-24 14.49.47 by Dan Spalding, on Flickr http://2019-11-24 14.48.56 by Dan Spalding, on Flickr
  22. Do your think the guy on the left may be suffering from rucksack envy.......?
  23. Had a great weekend exhibiting my layout Santa Maria. Was great to chat to a good few RMWebbers with similar interests in the RhB along with numerous questions on transporting a layout with overhead wires. Managed to see a few layouts with the Northwest Corridor and Barrymore's CNJ layouts taking my fancy. Congrats to the Warley team and thanks for the invite
