  1. Given this is due out at an exhibition next month, I have been cracking on with the detailing. A lot more to be done but these four images show the start.
  2. Generally four square feet is the max recognised as a “micro”; methinks yours is a tad above that !
  3. Your forum states “in a wrapping paper box” . Given the length of your SMS boards above, & as a past exponent of these boards & boxes, I would be very interested to see your proposed electrical connections between the two boxes needed. I have achieved these previously, see Kidmore Boxed, but would be glad to see other ideas.
  4. With Christmas over, I have been able to spend a bit of time on the layout. The half engine shed is now fixed in position & I have been able to connect up the yard lamps and brazier. Additional groundwork has also been completed but some bits still awaited. Hopefully the comparison with "Ledsam Street" is now obvious. The next update will, hopefully, show close ups of the completed layout prior to its first exhibition in Reading next month.
  5. May I suggest you also take a look at “Kidmore Boxed”, this Forum, which uses a very similar track plan with an additional siding .... also in a wrapping paper box.
  6. Long grasses & gorse bushes have now arrived so will now be able to progress. Have also ordered some figures from Dart Casting in order to populate the layout. Based on the image above however, will have to do a bit of hovering the surplus ground over first !
  7. Suggest have a look at “Kidmore TMD’ ( this forum) which is slightly smaller than your baseboard at just 48 x 10” .
  8. In between the Christmas celebrations managed to get the majority of the initial ground work done. Basic grass & cinders together with a small grass bank leading to the bridge façade. Grass areas will get a later dressing of rough grass & , probably, gorse bushes to add colour. The three cocktail sticks that can be seen are loosely placed in the holes made ready for the yard lights. Won't be any progress this week as off to show "Kidmore TMD" at the Maidenhead & Marlow MRC's exhibition.
  9. Thanks for heads up. Great idea for us micro layout builders where satisfactorily running in a new loco can be a hassle. Just found some new EZ stuff on eBay & ordered same.
  10. With the layout being booked for the Maidenhead MRC's exhibition on 4 January, thought I'd better crack on & complete it. The following images show the completed but not finished effort.
  11. Personally I would look at a plastic wrapping paper box. More substantial & will give you a construction length of just over two box files. Check this forum as to what can be achieved in the little extra space.
  12. This week's progress. Buildings & bridge façade now in place and groundwork given a coat of brown paint as basis for grass work & tarmac. Image clearly reveals the need for a viewblock inside of the bridge opening. Hard standing raised in positions for coal staithes and water crane.
  13. Colin.  In your RM article on Ledsam Street, you quote that a “penalty” is imposed if wagons cannot be placed in the right place or the loco coal wagon is not in its correct position.  Can you enlighten please as to what the penalty is & how it’s applied.  Many thanks, David (noctilux2).

  14. Further progress over the weekend. Back & side boards etc added to frame the layout. Track now ballasted & weathered. Have also constructed the false bridge that will hide entrance to the sector plate. I'll need to add a baffle inside of this as an internal view blocker.
  15. Any chance of the overall measurements & a full layout image please ?
  16. Are you sure on your dimensions given you propose an OO scale layout. 24cm long seems VERY tiny & would barely accommodate an 0-6-0 plus one wagon.. Do you actually mean 24” which is much more realistic, 28” is probably the sensible minimum ...... see “Dead End”.
  17. Baseboard (34 x 10") now completed with track laid & electrics to same also done. Next stage will be to ballast & weather the track and play around with the position of buildings. It wont be an exact copy of Ledsam Street but will bear a strong similarity. Bridge at LHS to hide the sector plate & fiddle will need some thinking about !
  18. Cracking on with this one at same time as "Kidmore End Yard" as it is booked for an exhibition on 4 January. The derelict bridge has been completed using cut down MDF trellis; I may add a vandalised burnt out wagon. The bridge is to disguise the LH end of the layout & partially obscure the point switches. At the moment the bridge is not fixed in place as I prefer to build this type of structure "off layout". The point switches are operated through a hole in the LH side edge board.
  19. Progress images of the buildings trying to keep them as close as possible to Ledsam Street (above). Further detailing will be added to the low relief workshops. The tiny loco shed is a cut down MDF kit with a false rear wall of foamboard & the inside wall that will be visible from the layout front lined with brick paper. Obviously can't make an exact copy as LS is O gauge. Hopefully will share baseboard images next week.
  20. Have you tried to put wagons / loco into the two sidings yet ? It looks very tight. Remember that whilst there may be a wagon in the nearest siding, that may partially block the curve into the upper thereby rendering that unusable.
  21. Plenty of examples on the forum to whet the appetite, see Festive Micro Layout and also Dead End.
  22. Yep, Colin French’s Ledsam Street was based on the OO gauge Balls Yard. I have not however been able to find any info on the latter.
  23. Just hope my OO clone does the original justice. Building images by this weekend, hopefully.
