  1. My type of layout ....... see "Kidmore Boxed" and "Dead End". One thing I can't find in your post is the actual size of your layout. It would be extremely helpful in my search for a new Wrapping Paper Box idea. Thanks in advance.
  2. Now completed the painting of the low relief north light building & it awaits weathering. Didn't quite like the way it sat against the background so have added a piece of 5mm foamboard to bring it forward a bit. Just to repeat, given that it's height is 11cm & the backscene just 8mm the building needs to be removable. It can simply be kept under the layout when the latter is stored in its home ....... the Really Useful Box. Hopefully next weekend I can complete this part of the layout & join it to its sister detailed at the very beginning of this post.
  3. Yep, not sure who makes a model sit-on mower ! Still, there's always nail scissors !!
  4. May I suggest you replace the RH point by a small radius Y version. This will gain you vital space in your diorama for display wagons etc.
  5. The heavy duty grass man cometh ! Noch long length grass spread virtually every where using a Gaugemaster puffer bottle & fixed in place using £ Shop hairspray. Once this has set I will give it all a judicious pruning !
  6. Skytrex low relief north light building now received & assembled with applique office & steps; excuse glue marks, parts didn't fit correctly height wise initially, still a decent paint job should hide. To be undercoated with £ Shop grey primer first before colouring brick work. Scrap yard details have now been put together & await painting. I will show these in next construction image posted.
  7. Progress image. Some initial base grass added over brown earth paint. Definitely decided to go with the partially removed platform theme & "concrete" piers now in position where the ramp would have been. The pencilled outline that can just be seen to the front RHS is where a derelict shed is going along with some scrap bits & pieces.
  8. Managed a bit of progress recently. Decided I would fill the RH triangle with ground cover so a little bank has been fitted & all polystyrene now given a base cover of a brown earth paint. Next stage will be to add the grass once buildings have been placed in situ ...... a disused signal box & probably a small scrapyard to the front using resin cast parts.
  9. Track now weathered & ballasted. Some groundwork completed including siting of retaining wall (plaster casts); these being leftovers from "Dead End" ......waste not etc. Building to RHS is a RTP from Hornby from the spares box. Unsure if these are still current. The "white bits" are the start of what will be grass banks. Probably fill the triangular space on the RHS with same, haven't quite made my mind up on that one. The two small boxes that can be seen near to the backscene are fixtures to hold what will be a low relief north light building in place. The height of this is too large to fit in the Really Useful Box once closed so needs to be removable but supported when on the layout.
  10. Feel free ...... I get lots of my ideas from this site, magazines, and the exhibitions. Isn't that which drives this hobby on ?
  11. Some progress last weekend. Track laid & ballasted and retaining walls in place. Raised areas stuck down and these will be coated with plaster bandage before painting. Have decided not to use the platform ramp & will go with a partly demolished platform. Van on platform is a Bachmann grounded body minus it's base.
  12. True but I don't think these are available to this width. Having two boxes does allow the layout to be raised by the layout depth.
  13. Personally I consider 5 sq ft to be the maximum. I exhibit several micros & I use this guideline for a number of reasons; easy to store, can be carried comfortably by one person, & fits in the majority of cars for transport to shows.
  14. Following Howl03's successful joining of two Really Useful Box wrapping paper box micros together, thought I'd have a bash at adding a second micro in said box to the RHS of "Kidmore Boxed". Track now laid on cork awaiting ballasting / weathering etc. Only significant difference between the original & this add-on is that the points on the original are motorised.
  15. Basically I have a number of micro layouts but like to reserve particular stock for individual layouts; bit of an excuse to buy more stock I suppose ! Siding lengths dictate suitable rolling stock on such tiny layouts so the Pug is ideal. Have just bought one of the Hornby Collector Club's 0-4-0 s so will see how that fits. Am continuing build this weekend so updated image soon.
  16. Just put together a 3mm MDF kit of a small platform & it's associated ramp. Unsure as yet whether to use the ramp or utilise it's space for a demolished platform section showing just the remaining concrete piers. Used in its full length the overall platform as supplied in the kit (see image) may appear too large for the available 28" scenic.
  17. Following on from "Kidmore Boxed" elsewhere on RMweb, the bug has bitten for creating layouts in wrapping paper boxes. These afford a layout size of 28 x 8.5" & of course simple storage. You can squeeze an extra inch on the length but I like to have space for a hand to lift the layout out ! The attached image shows the straightforward track plan with the RHS representing the end on a branch line which enters from the bottom LHS. The small siding, upper LHS, affords space for a Pug sized loco plus a couple of short wheel based wagons. The 1.5" softwood frame gives sufficient space for a point motor, perhaps overkill but my preference, leaving 3" height for a backscene.
  18. Paul. I have been ploughing through the text & enlarging your track images to establish whether you motorise the points on these layouts or not. You say that the baseboard is on 1" battens, does this provide sufficient depth ? Thanks in advance.
  19. Just found this excellent thread. Whilst having found the overall dimensions of 48x14" amongst the brilliant images, have I missed the "fiddle" bit. I can see a partially hidden point, is that the only one so is it a single line fiddle using a loco lift ? Track plan ?
  20. Have acquired one of these chassis which suggests it fits a three bogied tram body. Can anyone point me in the right direction of a specific Tomix or Tomytec tram, or indeed any other brand. Thanks in advance.
  21. Pleased to report that I have now completed this tiny (28 x 8"), boxed, OO gauge layout. Images attached....... The intent is that it is shown at the Marlow & Maidenhead MRC's exhibition at Knowl Hill on 9 June.
  22. The attached image shows how I've managed to hide the point motor switches, well at least partially ! The building is actually a 3mm MDF laser cut wargames kit in 15mm scale. Whilst debatably under sized for 20mm 00, it doesn't look out of place to my eyes. Indeed, the smaller size aids the switch camouflaging. I've completed a suitable length of Wills corrugated sheeting to add to the background & found a previously rejected Hornby low relief shed in the odds box which will complete the scene. So all that's left is too finish the scenic, and fiddle stick........at least I think that's all.
  23. Background low relief buildings now received from Skytrex. There are six components that make up the image below. Fortuitously no trimming was necessary. These are received as cream resin items so I gave them a coat of £1 Shop grey car primer before a reddish brick finish using superglue to join them together. Unsure what happened with the colour cast in the image below. As previously stated, the intent is to finish the backscene off by using Wills corrugated sheeting and probably a more substantial building at the fiddle end (RHS).m Once I'm happy with the back, I'll start on the rest of the scenics.
  24. Thanks for comments. Just awaiting on Skytrex parts to create a background building for the LHS. For the remainder of the backscene I'll build from some Wills sheeting & Ratio downpipes the rear of an industrial building. Whatever it is, 85mm is the maximum height available so the Skytex stuff may need a trim ! Any remaining space along the backboard will possibly need a low relief something ! Will post an image of the Skytrex build once completed.
