  1. I thought might keep it in green. There is an image of a Rushton at Crossley Evans. It might make an interesting contrast. Photo: Martin Harrison
  2. In between Christmas meals managed a little more modelling. Shunter has all handrails and engine cover handles in place. Brass large head buffers added. Glazing has been cut to size but will be added after weathering. Need to be added are the lifting rings and plates on buffer beams, missing access door hinges and refitting the steps. Has been thoroughly run in and will have chip fitted and will then see what crew can be added.
  3. Shunter now all broken down. Cab windows, except for front cab separate moulding so easy to prepare for cab glazing. All handrails removed and drilled out. Gibson 24in buffers to add to give a more industrial shunter feel
  4. Great modelling on an industry which has been rarely convincing modelled at the coal mining end. The real area is now a country park but some of the old but newer buildings are still there. If you ever consider adding smellorama the turkey farm at mucking out time was always a smell to behold!
  5. Class 66 roof detail from Cardiff 2013.
  6. Another project will be weathering Thrall Steel covered wagons. Images taken during a visit to Cardiff in Feb 2013. Will be posting some shots of bogie steel cradle wagons as well as roof detail of EWS class 66
  7. Thanks Jamie, anorak drying due to drenching by a M Travel bus this morning. This Foster did not have to step into a puddle to get wet this morning!
  8. To ring the changes in the scrapyard a small industrial shunter is the Christmas project. Bought Rusty at the Spalding Show in Nov this year. Has a chunky chassis and main work will involve drilling out windows, adding door handles and handrails as well as fitting decoder and weathering up. The main shunter will be based upon Judith Edge Sentinel kit but every time go near the soldering iron fumes bring on breathing difficulties. Apart from wearing mask anyone any ideas on less fume making fluxes etc?
  9. There are a couple of scratch built trailers with 3 Oxford DTEC versions
  10. Correct it is confirmed as Westfields but thought be a DAF unit
  11. Could indeed be. It belongs to another member of the team so will enquire. Thank you for your comments re the layout and the scrap yard. The cranes need more work and will be finishing off a roll on roll off scrap container. Also top part of yard to have the more expensive types of scrap in it. The Worksop will be fitted out with the welding flash and Langley models welders.
  12. Fiddle yard with selection of trains.
  13. Operator view of container yard. The kit does build into an impressive model and the aim in the future is to re painted the other crane into the same blue
  14. Security hut into back of container yard. Man started life as Bachmann police office re painted but head still a little pointed where his helmet was so will receiving a 4mm headache as his head will be filed
  15. View from top of scrapyard with Class 66 coming off branch with Thrall covered steel carriers.
  16. Detail inside the scrapyard. The crusher is scratch built body on an Airfix tank transporter trailer chassis. The shears is scratch built from plasticard. There are 504 individual cubes of cooking foil. Comments were made that scrap was too shiny but it seems these days the demand is so high that it does not stay in the yard long enough to get really rusty after being crushed but any details re workings of such a yardvarevwelcomed.
  17. A shot from the back which paying customers do not see! Dummy container stacks to create a visual block through which trains can be glimpsed. Running through is a heavy haul freight liner train and in the head shunt a GBR freight train heading a loaded scrap train. This is awaiting possession to cross both mainlines and away down the branch. Most of the grass is static overlaying woodland scenically.
  18. Fallen tree attracted a lot of interest. This short stretch of water course is on the list for extra detailing before the layout's next show
  19. Scratch built gauge train rolling through past the small engine depot
  20. Signal or control centre. Was pleased that someone did recognise it as being based upon Castleford
  21. Here are some more images from the Wakefield Show. They being put on via iPad so apologies if you get neck ache viewing them! Crane. The crane will move backwards and forwards but although there is power to the hoist the mechanism, spotlight and magnet will not work. It was going to be a key feature of the layout and was not cheap to buy! Any suggestions gratefully received.
  22. First show over and really pleased with the comments received. Thank you to everyone who took the time to chat. The layout won a shield and have received a number of enqueries regarding future shows but yet to be confirmed..Have taken some more photos but day job of preparing work for classes to be taught tomorrow and the little matter of the fish and chip club quiz on Tuesday needs to sorted first! Should be on for Wednesday!
  23. 2sessions in at the Wakefield Show and layout working well. Had lots of positive comments which are welcome considering the late hours the team have put into the construction and finish. Many thanks for all who come to the show and here are a few images of the layout now with stock!
  24. Help! Wakefield Show this coming weekend and the Helijan container crane has stopped working. There is power to the hoist section but the hoist, spotlight and magnet do not work. Anyone any ideas?
