Bravo! Some lovely pointwork there.
You could have said you enjoyed soldering earlier; I've just had a couple of grumpy days soldering six points for Brafferton's staging!
-
That's a result! Nice one Pete.

Go with the edit you've inserted into the main blog, ie more sky. It works for me anyway!
I always recall a very nice O Gauge layout, quite narrow which had a backscene about 150% as high as the boards were wide. The scene was photographic and of hills with very little sky; killed the layout...

Sorry this is a bit late in the day; I've been concentrating on doing some modelling myself!
Personally, I don't think the original printout is too dark, however the picture has been overcropped such that there is too much hill and not enough sky. This gives the impression that I'm looking at the layout through a telephoto lens and suppresses the feeling of openness that I would expect in such a location.
The crop seems to take a slice of about 50% from the middle of the photo losing all the sea and a big chunk of sky. I don't know if including the sea will work (which is what Kevin suggests above), but the recovery of that sky would help. Perhaps a few test prints reinstating the sea and/or the sky?
Sorry!

Wow! Super roof, John; very neat. The tiles seem to be working well too. Excellent!
-
Oh no guys; those are 2mm jumpers with knitted logos!
-
Ian. Good luck with the new layout!
The key thing with 2FS is perseverance. Skill will come and the end product will come, but you need to keep trying and keep pushing yourself. I can make a pigs ear along with the best of them (see some earlier blog entries for evidence of that), but by redoing and revisiting things I can eventually get something I'm happy with.
Oh and if you haven't already done so, get yourself to a 2mm local area group; a mine of help and assistance for the budding 2FS modeller.

Very nice, Pete. I gave you top marks in the diorama comp; well deserved in my opinion.
Should look a corker when the viaduct is incorporated into the layout proper. And don't forget to curve those backscene corners!

What's 4mm?

Thanks to Tony Simms for suggesting the small curve...which I thinks looks better...
Looks spot on!!
-
Very nice, Pete.
Is there any scope to get a small curve in that corner of the backscene? It would be worth it if you could imho.

Don, the gantry arms are integral to the layout legs. I have used the design before on Masham, although in that instance the gantry was straight.
The gantry is marginally wider than the baseboards, but lighting will be fairly even anyway with the mini-fluorescents I propose using.

Thanks Nick. Progress is slightly on the right side of glacial of late...
-
A little corker of a model, Rich!
Lovely!!
-
Lovely result with the signal box, Missy.
Might have to consider some lighting myself!
-
Very nice. Looks like it will be an excellent little layout!
-
...it has an excellent sense of space about it...
Thanks, M!
I like getting spaced out, now and then...
-
Pete, thanks for the comment. Somebody's going to catch it for leaving that wagon there!
Nick, I covered the brickwork in an earlier post. In summary, it is Scalescenes brick (aged red, I think), the quoins and lintels are drawn and coloured using a CAD program and then printed onto paper, cut out and overlaid. Hope that helps!

Those are the NEAG meeting rooms at Bournmoor. The layout is currently set up, but in my garage. This isn't an option over winter and impinges on progress to say the least...
Cheers

Wow!
Looks like Brafferton did in the early days!
-
Thanks guys! Much more happy with this than the plastic version which has now been binned!
The remainder of the station buildings will be done in this style. Update soon!!
-
Don
The trowel is just for dumping blocks of plaster. Yes plasticard does have a use; pushing plaster around!
I find that thumbnails are as good as anything once the plaster has partly set.

I used to have problems with Epson inks; photographs were particularly susceptible to fading. Having said that, some of the brickpaper on Masham was home printed and survived quite well.
I've been running a Canon printer for the last 18 months and those photos, some of which get a fairly strong blast of light daily, are as good as unchanged. Hope the brickpapers are similarly stable!
Cheers

Taking the easy way out. Again?

Thanks for the supportive comments guys. After 25+ years in 2mm modelling, I do know how to build a point, I'm just struggling to make a decent fist of it. Lack of match-fitness if you like!
Rich, I will be posting some updates after Nottingham; watch this space, but do hope you make it to the show anyhow.
