  1. We just need to remember to bring everything, although that has been an issue in the past (as Paul can testify)
  2. It's easy enough to forge, just being a badly scrawled X
  3. A reminder that Jeff will be appearing at the SFG exhibition being held in Gnosall (near Stafford) next week, ready to meet his fans and show them the DAS clay permanently ingrained under his fingernails. In addition, there will be some rather nice finescale layouts to look at whilst Jeff nips off for a poo. We all hope to see you all there
  4. Good man. It'll be a chance to get up close to the layout(s) and if all goes to plan, we may have chance to bring a few work in progress items along too, to act as an impromptu demo (I may just try and squeeze a terrace or two from Bacup in the car as I want to get all the window frames painted at some point - the white of them now annoys me)
  5. I have a couple of soul-less green boxes to bring too but they have yet to be fitted with AJ's. Notice how I didn't suggest putting the kettles on DITD; Damian would string me up.
  6. All fine for The Mill, mainly as the layout being housed at Shipley MRS club house means there is no temptation to tinker with it. All I have been up to is getting a rake of hoppers, two Black Fives and an 8F (all which now have AJ's fitted to the tenders) ready for a run on BCB.
  7. Which reminds me, I will need to put AJ's on one end of a few wagons as the locos earmarked for loan are now AJ fitted. They still have hooks which could be used with three links but to run in rakes with the ability to swap locos, AJ's are easier (that is what is done on BCB).
  8. Took a while but here are the numbers and withdrawal dates for the L&Y class 24 Rapid Shunters: 51535 - 9/56 51536 - 1/54 51537 - 9/61 51544 - 6/59 51546 - 1/59 51537 was withdrawn in '61 from Bank Hall shed. All the above had round top boilers rather than Belpaire ones from what I can ascertain -
  9. Didn't really know where to post this as it doesn't really belong in the Mill or the Bacup thread so here is as good a place as any. Whilst sorting through some locos, I came across my Ivatt Class 4 Mogul which never got round to being weathered. Upon opening it up, I remembered why; one of the side windows had gone walkabout. So, as you do, I brought it downstairs and cut & filed up a replacement one. All good so far but then I noticed how bad the other glazing looks compared to the replacement, as can be seen in the below shot when compared to the cab front. So far, I have just replaced the cab windows as I am scared that if I do all of them in this loco, I will feel compelled to do it to all the others too. If only Shawplan did laser cut replacement windows for steam as well as diesel locos. Note: you just know I will end up doing them all at some point....
  10. No cliches or cameos please Jeff; it would ruin the scene
  11. That stream does look stunning mate; outstanding work.
  12. All my Black Fives and the 8F have them fitted as the Hornby ones are a bit chunky too. The 'tricky' bit is holding the middle step in place whilst soldering it in (you then file the tab off as much as possible on the back).
  13. The Comet etch sounds like the solution then mate. If unsure, I'm sure George will be happy to solder them up.
  14. If it's the same as my Crab, I moved them out slightly by drilling holes for the step pips to go into, slightly further out. The alternative is to solder up some Comet steps and araldite them on; they are much thinner - easy to solder up too.
  15. I really enjoyed your article Adam. In a roundabout way, your wagon building and this thread (essential reading) have been an influence on The Mill as it's made me pay more attention to the wagons on the layout.
  16. When I can dig it out, I'll look in my L&Y locos book and get you some BR numbers. I can't imagine they lasted too long; possibly early 50's?
  17. Not at all; that's the beauty of forums, we can get answers to our questions and at least you didn't ask if the main building was Metcalfe, which has happened at an exhibition! A bloke at our club, a born and bred Bradfordian so accustomed to seeing old stone buildings, once asked us if bricks were invented in the 1930's. Oh how we laughed.......
  18. Hi Penlan. I have responded in the Mill thread but thought I would add the response here too, in case anyone else was curious. It's actually SE Finecast 7mm stretcher bond brick, to represent dressed stone in 4mm. Maybe a bit too uniform but some sand / gritstone buildings do appear to be built of stones that are pretty regular in size. It is more convincing as stone (in my opinion) than the SEF 4mm dressed stone sheets (and has narrower mortar courses), which was actually used on the chimney (borrowed, rather permanently it would seem) from Bacup. I guess I could have used Slaters as on the mill but to be honest we were running out of time and I fancied putting in the corner stones; it would have been a pain and possibly looked scruffy had I tried to trim the Slaters stones to size to fit convincingly. I used the SEF sheets on a couple of buildings on Bacup too, so that not all structures were constructed from the same stone.

  20. Now that MRJ is out, here are a few photos that Chris and I took that weren't used (possibly because they are crap).
  21. This has turned out to be a lovely little layout, not that there was ever any doubt. I take it you are enjoying your return to 4mm?
  22. Yeah Chris, what were you thinking....... (It's my wagon, my mistake)
