  1. The sound project I favoured was Digitrains on a Zimo chip with a bass reflex speaker. Really easy to install, with good sales support from Digitrains for their project. They can recommend the appropriate chip and speaker.
  2. Progress so far with improving a Hornby Margate Teak (Mike Trice technique; for use with my older tender drive locos which still get a lot of use) and a Chivers Pigeon Brake. Both require transfers from HMRS in the coming weeks.
  3. Mike, many thanks for sharing your technique. I've waited a long time to get around to having a go, and I just went for it. Very pleased with the progress so far on this Chivers Finelines Dia 120 PIgeon Brake. (Still some finishing touches to make of course).
  4. I recently couldn't work out which GWR MK3s I had, or was missing, It's surprisingly hard to find out "what" existed in a previous batch. Here is my compiled list of Hornby GWR Mk3s; I believe this "should" be complete. I'll update it once the sliding door set gets released, with their appropriate coach numbers and letters. Bear in mind Hillside Depot's post above that shows the GWR HST sets don't necessarily have consecutive coach letters in a rake. If there are any omissions or modifications you'd like me to add, please let me know.
  5. Many thanks Pro Grouping Fan and Rising Standards; useful to know. I'll probably go for that Zimo then
  6. Searching earlier in the thread I found posts from Right Away, Meatloaf, Les1952. and Al51 regarding DCC decoders for the Hornby terrier. My usual preferred decoder is a DCC concepts stay alive, and I have found that this is also "too long" to fit inside as per the gaugemaster/zimo attempts from previous posters. The stay alive seems unlikely. My question to Hornby Terrier owners; how well does it run with the Hornby 6 pin decoder (which folds back on itself to fit in nicely I see). Does it stall over electrofrog points? Many thanks in advance for any advice received from fellow RMWebbers.
  7. Not cheap at £36... Oh how times have changed!
  8. Theses were intended to be sold as a group "together". I bought my pack from my local model shop; they were delivered to him as part of his Hornby delivery in fitted-to-size cardboard box with four slimline certificates in the bottom of that box, and not inside the loco boxes. Hattons definitely sold them split up, and probably issued the correct certificates with them when they did. It is entirely possible that the person who sold your loco was not provided with the certificate in the first place, though there is no harm in asking.
  9. Looking forward to the DCC sound train pack!
  10. Saw you at Warley 2018. Happy to support the project. I've paid my deposit of £50 for the DCC sound version. Wishing you all the best for the project and the work ahead.
  11. Of course, it all makes sense now!
  12. Some of my favourite novelty wagons from my youth were the Hornby Duracell tank wagon, as well as the Polo wagon... Neither of which existed or carried liquid battery juice or mint flavour on the real railway... Fair play to anyone who wants a coca cola set!
  13. True to my original intention for this layout, one that it could be used across geographic areas and eras, here are a traction trio of photos.
  14. A photograph of the recently installed dairy gates...
  15. Dapol Class 22 at the dairy, pending departure.
  16. Thanks, I'm very grateful for the kind words. The layout spent a lot of time in bits, long after the initial white foam board photos from my early posts in 2016. I just kept looking at it all piled up and losing my way with progress during the ballasting and scenic process, which had a few false starts and took a while to get it to look like how I wanted, all the while looking at "perfect" photos in magazines. I conducted a site visit to Appleby to see what was left of the old Express Dairy facility there, picked up my interest but other things required my attention. I had helped operate two of JaymzHatstand's layouts at exhibitions (Scrayingham OO9 and Whitborough Quayside OO) with some guest kitbuilt stock and that helped me get back on track as it were; I'm grateful for that. I'm equally grateful and excited by the reception so far on RMWeb and for the interesting topics of discussion being generated.
  17. Thank you for your posts cromptonnut, Karhedron and leopardml2341; some excellent information and photos. Paul Bartlett's site continues to be an excellent source of prototype photos and modelling inspiration; the existence of two-axle TMVs had escaped my attention. Hornby made a TTA version of this many years ago from 1983 to 1985, although it had a really nice chromed livery application.
  18. Indeed, I'll set up my SLR for a proper shot rather than this one which I did in LED light, and then this monster will be gone forever... EDIT 11/09/2018: Original point and click photo above has been replaced for a better quality SLR photo to show Class 47 around the correct way!
  19. Here's a better look at my current fleet of re-sprayed/worked on/mashup industrial diesels. "Blue" is in traditional Express Dairy colours. "Orange" is in Wilts United Diaries colours. "Yellow" is generic, but inspired by the shunter at Chard.
  20. Here is a quick photo to show my inspiration, the Chard dairy shunter from the era of the Milk Marketing Board, and an attempt at replicating the photo with my mashup Bagnall/Class 06 shunter. I have made a few modifications, most of which were described in the post above. Note: my yellow shunter is not fully finished nor necessarily representative of this exact same engine, and is merely inspired by it. http://www.cornwallrailwaysociety.org.uk/uploads/7/6/8/3/7683812/2319188_1_orig.jpg
  21. Thanks Northmoor and Corbs. I'm fairly decent at re-spraying stuff, and not too bad at a brass kit. But, I have a number of brass kits already on the go/on the to do list (and most are 009)... I would love to make one of the Judith Edge varieties at some point, I'm very grateful for the link! Meanwhile, progress so far on my mashup is looking good. Hopefully a photo tomorrow evening.
  22. So, this weekend's modelling task was something I had been planning for a while, an industrial shunter inspired by this one from Chard, seen here in the days of the milk marketing board and the re-vamped milk tanks. See this website for further information: http://www.cornwallrailwaysociety.org.uk/chard-juntion.html Not many photos exist of this particular shunter exist, and within my skills I figured that a mashup of a Hornby Bagnall and a Class 06 cab would suit me fine. I removed the moulded handrails with a scalpel and added turned brass ones. I also removed the molded detail from the back of the Class 06 cab. I'm intending to spray this yellow, inspired by this particular example. I am aware it won't be identical, but that isn't my intention. http://www.cornwallrailwaysociety.org.uk/uploads/7/6/8/3/7683812/8114419_1_orig.jpg
  23. I do love a good full brake... Very useful to have.
  24. Spent today stringing up my five foot fence posts. After discovering I couldn't glue fishing reel to Ratio posts, I ended up trying out some laser cut wood fence posts from ScaleModelScenery.com (no connection other than a satisfied customer). I was very pleased with the results, I used Tinned Copper Wire 35 SWG (0.2mm) to represent the wire, because at least it would be metal coloured and not fishing wire coloured. Photos will follow in due course. My next task is to address the dairy entry gates...
  25. That's really useful information Karhedron. Thanks for sharing. One of the things that attracted me to milk traffic was the inherent license to use almost anything, including express passenger engines. I'll have to check the trip information in the photo I have seen of King George V. It was in a single issue magazine, I think it was called "Delivering the Goods" or something... I shall look and report back.
