  1. Also "Ideal for a collector or to run on a layout" Bloody hell, is that what people do with model trains? I'd never have guessed!
  2. Unfortunately it's a plastic model of a largely timber prototype, so it just looks like partially-melted plastic...
  3. Hmmm... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dapol-Wrexham-Shropshire-Railway-class-67-67012-Dummy-loco-limited-edition-/141106685717?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item20da9d2715 They were available for a lot longer than two days, and they did come with etched nameplates in the box.
  4. On present form, if Dapol do it there's a fair chance it will appear round about when they say it will. If Hornby do it, it'll probably not appear until a year or more after the estimated delivery date!
  5. It's also acquired the wrong pantograph from somewhere - 90s have only ever had single-arm Brecknell Willis type! As I recall the 'springs' above the bogie are part of the chassis moulding, so they must have been cut off so that the Western bogie would fit. Don't think I'll be bidding...
  6. A few months ago someone was selling a pair of HST prototype power cars, converted using the Genesis cast cabs. He'd done a really nice job of them - unfortunately the base models were of ones with Brush cooler groups though, so the roof detail was completely wrong!
  7. Something I have listed on ebay at the moment has been viewed two times and has four people watching it, according to the figures. Eh?
  8. The HST he has listed is also a 56 according to the description. At least. I think that's what it says: Is there a gibberish to English translator anywhere on the web?
  9. Probably would have gone for over 300 if the starting price had been lower - several in this livery have gone for silly amounts recently.
  10. On the subject of splitting sets, I see that it's being offered here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-RAILWAYS-No-R696-BR-Class-43-125-HST-XPT-SUPER-TRAIN-SET-RARE-/300873518714?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item460d758e7a Form an orderly queue now - no pushing and shoving! Obviously, you are all keen to splash out 150 quid on an old-style Hornby power car and 95 quid each on some short-length Mk3s!
  11. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290988658393?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Starting price of 300 but still a reserve on it?
  12. Yes, you are correct (and it has been discussed at length elsewhere - not financially viable to do the loco-hauled roof design, apparently)
  13. But was it still in the box?
  14. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-RAILWAYS-No-R696-BR-Class-43-125-HST-XPT-SUPER-TRAIN-SET-MIB-RARE-/271169589287?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item3f22f79027 "SIMPLY STUNNING " "ONE FOR SERIOUS COLLECTOR"
  15. Will it sell? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221290427532?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
  16. Flog em! You can then buy an XC set for considerably less and make a profit! Also, the FGW one doesn't actually have the correct roof detail for the NMT at any time. The XC model is correct for 43062 as it is at the moment. (Grand Central ones aren't correct either for the NMT as it is at present, mind).
  17. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281170470850?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Looks like the power cars are becoming as sought after as the carriages. From recent ebay prices, Hornby would do well to re-release the whole set (power cars and all carriage types) as there's clearly a demand for them. Unsurprising really, considering that FGW operate over half of the HST fleet and they cover a wide geographical area. Ironically, these aren't even one of the best of the recent Hornby HSTs - the colour looks slightly off to me (too much purple in it), and the roof grilles / headlights could do with improvement.
  18. This is getting silly now... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171126680488?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
  19. Even if you cut bits out, they'll still carry on corroding.
  20. Don't all rush at once... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-HST-Power-Car-Body-Shells-and-1-x-MK-3-Coach-/121180296129?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item1c36e893c1
  21. So, has anyone seen any real locos this rusty (other than ex-Barry wrecks, which generally have a lot of parts missing too)?
  22. Who on earth bids that sort of amount when all you can see in the bad photo is that there is some track and random other things, which could be in any condition? Weird.
  23. Everything Rails sells seems to go for a lot - more than it would do from most other sellers. I've only ever bought a handful of second-hand items from them (some through ebay, some on their website), and wasn't impressed with the most recent - a Class 50 - it wasn't as good as described and there were several small parts missing. I decided to keep it anyway, but did email them to point out the problems and suggesting that they gave me a discount on a future purchase. They did agree to this, but the amount offered wasn't a lot considering the price paid (ironically, I'd put up with paying a high price because I thought they could be relied on!). I've not taken them up on the discount yet - I'm wary of anything second-hand from them now, and for new items - which I've not bought many of recently anyway - I'd prefer to use the local model shop.
