  1. A late friend of mine Keith, who was a foot surgeon, was very susceptible to electric shocks, he was oiling round one day and another mate Jerry, a telephone engineer grabbed hold of the ring main conduit and touched Keith on the back of his neck, who then jumped about a foot, from the shock. An oft repeated jape, whenever Jerry could sneak up on Keith and something electric was to hand.

Sorry Snoops but cannot agree with you there. I thought the presentation was spot on. I've seen Shwt on a number of occasions and the lighting really compliments the outstanding modelling on show.

A subjective view of course but it ticked my boxes.

  3. A quick update Phil has found several minor mechanical problems which have been sorted, He now needs to source a thicker bit of piano wire for the link from the servo to the signal.  Looking good for Friday.

I wonder if Dapol are working from this pic of 4870 for their proposed version? If so, I'd suggest she's in GWR black wartime livery rather than green as Dapol propose:

GWR, Collett designed 4800 class 0-4-2T no. 4870 in the company of the Ashburton branch autocoach pass through Totnes station on 30/8/1945. 4870 was a Newton Abbot engine when this shot was taken and would be renumbered to 1470 in the following year. 1470 would remain at 83A until its transfer to 83C Exeter St. David's mpd in May 1961 which was followed by withdrawal in October 1962. An old Totnesian has kindly sent me these supporting notes: "Totnes had no UP bay platforms for the Ashburton branch trains, they would arrive at the Down platform from where the photograph was taken and departed from the UP platform in the background. There were a number of ways to get across the Main line but it required the UP and DOWN Mains to be clear. On this working the 4870 and autotrailer has proceeded down the platform loop line, joined the Down Main behind the photographer, 4870 then propels the autotrailer back up the Down Main and is just about to use the crossover onto the UP Main to proceed beyond the UP loop points and back into the Up platform for departure - the UP Main home signal by the footbridge is off for this movement. All this was negotiated around freight movements, bankers waiting for Rattery and Dainton duties, and the stopping and express through services." [H. C. Casserley / Mike Morant collection]

Those autos look like a Plymouth set, I'll put my name down for two pairs!!!

I'll wake up in a minute and find it was, but, a dream!

Fair Rosamund? Woodstock? I thought that was "Three days of music, peace and love"!

    Pretty locos, whatever, both classes.

    Oldddudders,

I think that you may have the wrong Woodstock, the music, peace and love, with maybe some flowers in the hair was the wrong side of the pond.

    To finish this sequence:

Think I've said this before but over time those first generation Dapol signals become very reluctant to return to the fully horizontal position.  And eventually they get to the stage where it needs two presses of the push-button to make them move at all.

The signals eventually give up the ghost altogether, on Ruan which will be at Thornbury one is now worked by a Tortoise point motor and the other by A SG9 servo, which is currently a bit temperamental, some of which is operator error, hopefully Phil can sort it out before Friday.

Nipped up to the ELR yesterday for a ride behind 4079 'Pendennis Castle' from Heywood to Rawtenstall and back. The Castle was in splendid nick and fine form.  I last saw this loco pausing at Starcross with a down stopper in the summer of 1961.

I've managed to get the necessary timber today, ready for some more wood mangling. However, I'm out again tomorrow working on the other layout I'm involved with - undertaking a load of wiring including lots of soldering (odd as I thought that DCC was supposed to simplify and reduce the wiring); not my favourite thing. Consequently this layout will be DC.

So here's a pic showing the recently made layout edge buildings in place in front of the viaduct. Note the partial viaduct wall three arched sections just resting in place on the left which are cast resin from a mould I made a while back (see pic of master and mould below). I obviously need to cast more of them and paint them. Also the top part of viaduct (with the parapet wall) needs to be made as a master and a mould made to cast them. I ordered the necessary chemicals to make the mould and castings which has recently been delivered. Plenty to be getting on with.

Except only available thru the Scale Societies, none of which I'm ever going to join. Pity really given the growing interest in Code 75 even if at more modest OO Gauge.

Is there an opportunity here Wayne?

You can buy exactoscale parts at a society show or one that the sales stand attends. EMGS shows are at Bracknell in May and Wakefield in August. The S4 society has shows or the trade stand at Railwells in August Scaleforum in September in September, the sales stand may be at other shows op Norf!
