  1. I have found it a real pain to build, I have 3 on the go, they have all been in the boiling water at least once and one has had 3 baths because I dropped it and bent various bits of it. Most of the problem is getting the bits to fit snugly together to get a gap for the cab door wide enough, my 1st attempt the gap was 4mm, it's getting close to 7mm now! I need to check the drawing to see what it should be, again!

  2. I found that it was easier to fit the sanding gear and reverser reach rod to the running plate, and the injectors to the panniers before fitting the panniers. Note fit the chimney, dome and safety valve before fitting the top, The other tank top fittings can also be interesting if using soldering construction.

  3. A bit late to this party, I have mounted the motor vertically in the firebox, I have used Mashima 16 X 20 motors, with the shafts cut off. I have had the motors in stock for years.

I have found that a lot of work is needed to get the bits to fit together snugly. I have assembled and disassembled the bodies several times to try and get things right.

I have a saddle tank and 2 panniers on the go.

This is how the group looks all together. Waiting for the paint on the ground to dry (acrylic on das) before working up the ground cover.

I had to do a double take on the pub signs, I thought it was the Eldridge Pope, Huntsmans Ales sign and I wondered what beer from Dorchester was doing in the forest.  When I enlarged the picture the truth was revealed.

  5. Single line working, was introduced between Newton Abbot and Totnes, Sunday afternoon/evening, due to a landslip. The up line was in use, I was on the wrong side of the train to see the exact location and the extent of the slip, it did however add nearly 70 minutes to the already 10 minute late train.

  6. Keep pestering the solicitor, if you want completion in a reasonable time, I hope that neither party are using online solicitors, when my friend was buying a property in Yeovil, the vendor used an online solicitor based in Wales, it took nearly six months to get completion, it was virtually impossible to get hold of them.

  7. Hi All,

I have finally got to the current end of this epic layout build after ANTB posted a link here with the arrival of the Granges at the end of July last year.

I thank St E for replacing the lost photos, that in itself was a mammoth task.

I do have a question, which way round do you fit the diodes to the coils on the electro magnets, I forgot to make a note of it whilst wading through these 300 odd pages and I don't fancy going back through them to find the answer.

Thanks for the ride it has been a pleasant read.

I hope all Plymouth residents that follow this thread like @Siberian Snooper stay safe and away from the Torpoint ferry terminal this evening.

Thanks for all the support from fellow RMWebbers. I was evacuated on Thursday morning and overnighted with a drinking buddy. On Friday morning I left for a gig in Brum, so I missed out on all of the Friday shenanigans, for which I am truly thankful. I didn't get to return home until after 7,30 last night due to a landslip between Newton and Totnes, resulting in single line working between the two.

Having chatted to the regulars down the pub, chaos ensued after it was announced that the bomb was going to be moved and the cordon extended along the route to the ferry.

I  don't know if it's still available on  Plymouth Online, but most of the women that I know had a good giggle, with regards the shape of the extended evacuation area.

    Thanks again.

    Evening all...

If there was just one book on Pannier Tanks, what would it be?   I've heard of the 'Pannier Papers' and was wondering if there was a single volume if that covered both the 57xx and the 8750 (I have the Bachmann models from yonks ago)?

    Cheers

There's the Pen and Sword book Pannier Tank Classes, by David Maidment.

Not very exciting but standard fare on the Horsham to Victoria via Dorking circuit seen here at Sutton:

    Southern Class 377/6 377619 Sutton 19/2/24

Have the fast trains to Victoria, via Dorking and Sutton, been reinstated? The last time I used a train from or to London, the Dorking route was peak time stoppers, all the fast trains were via Gatwick.

I'm looking at an earlier 0-6-0 tank in the near future. Focus is on a saddle tank, but core design work will be the same for a Pannier (or side tank). There's an obvious incentive to create something which fits on a RTR chassis such as Bachmann's 57xx (or 64xx I supppose) but I keep getting drawn to the 1076. If the Aberdare's chassis works out then I'll have a functional design which can be modded to other wheelbases.

if you decide on doing a 1076, any chance of one with rectangular cab windows, as used on Plymouth area auto trains. Thanks.

I have double checked, Bachmann Earl is 23mm between the insides of the splashers, I dont recall there being a need to remove material in Gibson's guide for an EM gauge conversion on this

Gibson EM wheels are 22.3 over the tyres, so a good half a mil of play each side.

    Thanks.

    23.4mm between splashers

direct from a member of the GWR modellers Facebook group who designed it.

Many thanks for that, I will measure the width over the wheels of one of my outside framed locos, to double check, but I think all will be well.

Hoping someone on here might be able to do me a favour

I am trying to confirm the 1947 livery of curved frame Bulldog 3335, apparently there is a photo in the Maidment book on small wheel GWR 4-4-0s which alas is not in my library.  Hoping someone on here may have a copy and be able to have a quick look to see if they think it is painted in green or black before I get the paints out on this IMG_9421.jpeg.c87c3fe2b41afb72a77d0e2b7e6467e9.jpeg

Do you think that there's enough space between the frames to fit an EM gauge chassis?
