Hi Gordon
To get some colour into the plaster bandage and or plaster I use powder paint from the Early Learning Centre and mix the colours to the required mix dry then add the water (dries lighter than when wet) add the plaster to it or if using the bandage dip the bandage in before application.

I thought that one of your number had escaped as I saw a gent on Royal Parade, Plymouth wearing a "Tee" shirt with
I LOVE PIES.
with a picture of a large pie with a couple of bites out of it.

Hi Gordon
The buildings look good, are they scratch built or kit built?

Nice to see that progress is resumed.

Time for a pint then, Cheers!!

Can't tell from the photo's if the pubs open or not, it's no good gricing if the pub ain't open between trains or after bunking the depot/shed.

I don't know about deep fried mars bars (lived here nearly 20 years and never seen one), but I do know we do a fine range of meat and pastry products. Come and try a Bridie, or a Scotch pie (usually just referred to as a pie up here!)
They deep fat fry those as well.

Hi Gordon
Some impressive S & C you have there.

Hi Ron
I found this thread yesterday and have just finished reading it. All the superlatives which have gone before, I echo these plus a few more which I can't put on here as they are variations on four letter words. :sungum:
If it's of any interest (possibly a bit late) I got two and a half litre's of Dichloromethane (PLASTIC WELD) from Reagent
http://www.reagent.c...dichloromethane
£36.86 + vat. I can't remember whether there was delivery on it. This is obviously UK.

Throw bars for 4mm track are $2.49 from this man - http://www.proto87.c...k-Turnouts.html
I have bought stuff from Andy in the past. He is an engineer so the design and detail are high quality. Don't let the title of the site put you off - he is looking to expand into UK style hand built track.
Hi
Do you have a picture of these please? I have had a look at the site but no piccy

Hi Gordon
Nice to see some well executed S & C, I especially like the switched diamonds (rarely modeled but I did see one on the Bodmin Club layout at their exhibition.

I believe that the branch also stables the ***** train from time to time as it has good access to one of the major roads though Devon and the place over the water, which probably also helps to keep it open.

I think I have finally got there! Here's the general schematic with the buildings just roughly in place. I'm not sure if I have misunderstood you SS, but I have already shortened the platforms and moved the building back with an overbridge acting as the scenic break. Perhaps you would like to sketch out what you mean? I've taken the Waverley West idea with the platforms hidden in the yard as it were. I think that provides the best solution and throws up a lot of space. I grew up with the southern end of the ECML, Peter, so paired running is ideal. As I said earlier, I have copied your station approach although you will have to take my word all the single slips are there, but don't show that well in the drawing. I've deliberately left the top board open at this stage. It could be a large goods yard, a branch terminus or even a scaled down version of the original ET plan. The key here will be to provide lift out sections in case stock is derailed underneath. All the pointwork will definitely be accessible as experience has shown, if something is going to fail, it will be the most inaccessible tie bar or point blade. Apologies for using the 'journey' word, but it really has been an enjoyable few days. We've gone from a basic roundy roundy to something that meets my requirements and definitely has an LNER feel about it. I love the idea of building the whole thing in stages as that will keep me motivated and you may still see a train run soon. All I have to do now is build it. I can't wait to get started...
Hi Gordon
Yeah, pretty much along the ideas of your latest post. Being a GW man the detail will probably differ but the basic idea is the same.

Hi Gordon
I'd just like to throw a spanner in the works , I have been giving this some thought over the last few days but I have not had the time to send this until now, I have come up with the following idea, why not use the left hand end of the station building as the scenic break this means that your visible platforms are shorter and the curves on that end can be down to your minimum radius, another benefit is that you will already have six fiddle yard roads from which to split off the rest. All this means that you would have more room at the right hand end for a more prototypical station approach. A bit outside the box I know!

OK, back to modelling. Decided in the end to split the cylinders and expansion link saddles in two to gently ease them out to the width of the B1 body. It's all a matter of a fraction of a mm here and a bit there, plus adding the angle in the crank and voila, all the valve gear goes back and forth without fouling anything. I just needed a fair bit of patience to get there. I took the decision very early on to get the chassis running smoothly without priming and painting and then strip it back to the compoent parts for painting. Rightly or wrongly, I felt this made sense, but now I'm getting close to having a running chassis, I want the minimum dismantling before painting. Out of interest, what's the preferred method of dealing with a chassis? Paint first and then assemble or assemble to a working state, dismantle, paint and then assemble again? At what point do you blacken the valve gear? In terms of paint I use an acrylic red oxide primer (Simonize aerosol) plus airbrushed dirty black. Will I need a special primer for the brass chassis and white metal parts? I think I'll attack the front bogie next as the concentration needed on the valve gear has almost given me a headache. Of course it could be withdrawal symptoms after three days of red wine and red dragon beer...
Hi Gordon
Something that is going to be black, I tend to use gun blue first and the just spray it matt black afterwards, followed by weathering to taste.

Of course when the gunpowder van is empty it can be marshalled anywhere in the train. I once had a phone call from a concerned railwayman at St. Phillips Marsh, the Exeter - Warrington freight service (7M67 I think), was stood outside his office waiting to go into Kingsland Rd with an (empty) gunpowder van marshalled next to the nuclear flask wagon from Bridgwater-Sellafield. He was relieved when I told him the van was empty! cheers
Not much of a bang with that then, an empty gunpowder van and spent fuel rods.

Martin certainly did sell Hursley to a gent who was going to open a model museum along the lines of Pendon, but as far as I am aware nothing ever came of the idea.

Ditto the above remark. I first saw the layout a couple of years ago at EXPO EM, the layout is coming on in leaps and bounds. This is from a GODS WONDERFUL modeller.

I have a 1.9 diesel Fabia on a 03 plate. I have had it for just over 2 years it runs a treat. Goes first time every time (watch it fall apart now). Round town I get about 55 to the gallon on a motorway trip I can get it up to just over 60 to the gallon and that's with the aircon running. I start to get heat from the heater in less than half a mile, and that was in the cold snap last December. It had over 100,000 on the clock when I got it. Apart from two tyres for the MOT and the regular service, I have spent nothing on it. The previous car was a 1.3 Felicia which was sound as a pound. The only problem I had with that was when the alternator packed up on me in the outside lane on the M5.

But that's not a PIE, surely it's a Pasty? In fact, I've just remembered that we're going to Cornwall - the home of pasties, yippee!
Gringo-tastic!!
There's a few this side of the Tamar which might dispute that remark
