  1. 1906 inside Garston LNW creosote plant London & Birmingham carriage Doncaster 1848 Heysham docks LBSCR inspection railcar wagons at Hull docks, when did NE wagons have an "R"? Kalka station, interchange between the broad gauge mainline line and the narrow up to Simla
  2. spent most of today drawing, ive a gear train sorted but now need to decide on the framing for it and preparing gears; the larger gears are second hand 11mm Heljan, the middle 4 are 6mm cut in half and the 4 smaller cut off the side of a set of 16mm gears. not shown is the 4mm gear on the motor but i couldnt just get 1 so had to buy a pack of them
  3. for a long time ive been thinking of how to get the Moyse running after not being able to get the belt drive working since i built it 2 years ago quick recap since its been a while, the loco in question the old power arrangement of a N20+gearbox driven through bevel gears and then coupled by home made pulleys then last year i figured, the N20 motor would fit side ways in the middle with 2 equal gear trains either way to the axles But i didnt have any suitable sized gears to try out, which i do now. i had to get a new N20 motor as the right hand one has a very short shaft with a brass gear fixed on, so i'll leave t as it is to use on something else
  4. The Engineer 15-9-1871 Woolwich Arsenal with extra buffers, presumably for SG, though it likely didnt last long as all photos of Woolwich locos dont have them 1889 MW works photo without
  5. But that was on the north side of the road bridge, this is south
  6. ive just looked at the nls side by side OS, there's no tracks shown there on the south side of the road bridge
  7. sorry if this isnt the right place to put this i have just looked at the guild website to see the dates of the summer show to find that it has been moved down south, it was the only O gauge show near enough for me to get to and isnt there already quite a few o gauge shows down south? Now northern england doesnt have any shows is there anybody here also in the Guild forum? (i'm not a member) has it already been discussed over there and if management has given any reply as to why it moved so far?
  8. just remembered this thread and came back for research to it as ive recently been given an Edge kit
  9. this photo is from a 1937 Railway Magazine, captioned as a 1849 L&Y 2-2-2 which does look just like what was previously discussed about Welbeck re upload of previous images from before the great photo wipe
  10. One of these days i'll remember to start a UWLR thread on NGRM but maybe wait until ive started on one of the locos first
  11. Hunslet 846 survives, plinthed https://alchetron.com/cdn/cyprus-government-railway-1593881e-6408-4df5-9440-fe749de2fd9-resize-750.jpeg
  12. I really dont like glazing much, its a chore i'd rather not have to do but UWLR 1-3 have just been done and preparing to stick the roofs on In other news i was very suprised yesterday that ive been given an Edge ruston 48 kit as an early birthday present, i'll leave untill after my birthday, after weve got the wheels, buffers ect and after ive whittled down my project pile a bit
  13. Just the lid clamp to do before painting and then get my friend to print me the solebar plates
  14. Riveting the Roberts tank, went over doing every second rivet and now going back over inbetween Traced the Grimsby lettering but will wait until a day ive feel like doing it, its no good trying it while not having the right enthusiasm and focus
  15. Handles and started painting on carriage No4 On the Grimsby, the lettering will all fit now though a bit smaller than it should be Repainting
  16. 1905 Matadi Boma of the French Congo Darjeeling Manchester Central GCR De Glehn what if Met No6 being retired at 40 yrs Hellingly asylum tramway some on the S&C Hellifield Garsdale/Hawes Jnc Blea Moor Great North of Scotland cycle van
  17. Progress on No4 The extension is a guards comp with ducket which ive tried to match to the rest. Extensions to the bogies for the kadee boxes to sit in and screwed washers to the body to sit on the bogies
  18. Carriage No4, is being made from Port Wynnstay resin castings which must now be about 20 yrs old, ive used the sides before on one of my now scrapped O gauge carriages and since i still have the original ends and lamp tops, i might as well add it to the UWLR fleet. Photo below shows the sides and 1 end together on a 2mm styrene floor. You'll note the floor is longer, this is to add a bit more as i thought it looked a bit short at 25ft so the addition will take it up to 30ft 1-3 have got new handles and paint
  19. Ive completely forgotten about the Roberts tank this week, riveting the Grimsby and working on some NG carriages Stirring away in my head in the background for about 2 years now is the idea of the "Upper Wharfedale Light Railway" which i have already posted in the fictitious railway thread last year, i want to build stock for it even though i know i mostly likely will never get to build a layout. Ive had these 3 carriages for about 10 years now that came from the Minicraft Vulcan kit and will be re purposed as UWLR Nos 1-3. They need some TLC such as reglazing, repainting, replacing moulded door handles, adding couplings. Ive still got the original foot boards unused and might add a birdcage on top of the guards compartment (the 3rd carriage not in photo) Adding the drag boxes Removing the original glazing as they were glue stained and cutting off the door handles
  20. Some may remember the Grimsby tank which is probably now a few pages ago (around October last year), i got it painted and started planning the lettering stencil back then but it wouldnt all fit, after many attempts ive figured that the rivets are too big and too far from the edge thus reducing the available space. It also appears that ive made a mistake with proportions, the top corner of the slopes are a bit high, only by about 1mm but its enough to throw off the lettering. There nothing i can do about the latter without a full rebuild (which i'm not) but i can cut off all the rivets from the sides and ends to redo them with smaller diameter and closer to the edge Ive started doing this and then the lettering should fit
  21. Charles Roberts' first tank wagon 1881, it looks like its on a standard 9ft wheelbase chassis. Top is the works photo from a tank wagon book and the bottom i acquired from the photo collection of John Allen after he passed away about 5/6 years ago. At the time i didnt know what it was, i got it because it is CR and then about 2 years ago came into possession of the book and realised they are the same wagon. It was preserved at the Horbury works until it was thrown away after Procor took over in the 70's, In conversation on Facebook last year, it is assumed to be Butterley where it slowly rotted and disappeared into the undergrowth and now hasnt been seen for a long time, i would love to one day have a chance to go to butterley and look for it The basis of the model is the top of these 2 in ficticous livery, cut off the body and everything off the solebars except the brake V hangers
