CJI. When I looked at using one for a conversion I found that the underframe appears to be about 2mm too wide. 1
RMweb Gold Darius43 Posted April 30, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 30, 2022 So two longitudinal saw cuts of the chassis either side of the bogie pivots followed by cleaning up and re-assembly. Will give it a go tomorrow. Cheers Darius

Waveydavey
Nice work on narrowing the chassis. My solution was to replace it with a Comet brass chassis. By the time these were in blue most (but not all) had lost their gangways. The rectangular vents above the doors also look to have been removed before these vans were painted blue too. RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted May 1, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 1, 2022 Not that I've tried it yet, but my idea was to get rid of the way too obvious top rib of the channel which the eye is drawn to, in a similar fashion to the Lima variant on the left of your picture, if you look at prototype pictures there is only a thin flange which the body seems to be bolted to. Of course, the luxuriant method is the one espoused by learned friend above! Mike.
BernardTPM
A big improvement not having the solebar lips sticking out beyond the headstocks. Back when these were new I had taken the solebars off in an attempt to narrow it, but it was one of those never completed jobs.

DCB
All good stuff but when included in a train as shown the variation in ride, roof and buffer height take my eye far more than the underframe details.

No, I only look at the train as a train, and on the full size there is a line of symmetry along the buffers and bottom of the bodysides of very many different designs of parcels stock, see https://www.steve-banks.org/prototype-and-traffic/167-parcels-traffic-in-br-days Edited May 8, 2022 by DCB

RobMG
Excellent work, The model definitely benefits from having the solebars moved in. I will be doing that on mine. I think I will fit new buffers from LMS. Otherwise will do as you have done. Rob
