Seasons Greetings
Hope Santa brought you all what you wanted. I was fortunate in that he brought me the new Lightmoor Press book about the Cheddar Valley and East Somerset line aka the Strawberry Line. A thoroughly recommended read. It has rekindled my interest in a long held ambition to build a layout of one of the stations on the Cheddar Valley, mainly because they're so close to home. As I've muttered before, I very nearly built Congresbury with the junction for the Wrington Vale Light Rly before I eventually settled on Weston. The more I look at the book, the more the likes of Sandford (with its quarry branch) or Cheddar (with its overall roof) appeal. I don't think I could realistically do Wells on my own. Too big to get all 3 stations on one layout, even if the operational interest appeals.
Didn't have a lot of diesel traffic though, that's the only problem. Apart from the ex GWR railcars, DMU's never made an appearance on ordinary traffic. D63xx hydraulics appeared at the end and Hymeks worked some of the stone traffic from Westbury so there's scope. Luckily Bachmann do the Ivatt class 2 tanks & tender engines and the new class 3 does look very nice...
Ah well, I suppose we've all got about half a dozen layout projects in our dreams. Clevedon first methinks.
Haven't tried out my other present yet, namely a new mini drill from Shestos. It's still too early to be excused Christmas duties for serious modelling time in our household!
p.s. For those interested in Wheal Elizabeth, there'll be an article in one of the mainstream magazines in just over 2 weeks, which reminds me that I must really go and put it up. It hasn't been at a show since DEMU in June and is due out in about 3 weeks' time in Weston, which is nice and local.
p.p.s which reminds me I really must finish the Conflats and D2127 before then...
