Jon Gwinnett
Thought it was about time the S&C pages had a prototype photos topic. Dave F has posted some in this thread:http://www.rmweb.co....and-rhdr-added/ recently and I'm sure there are many more that have been added over the years, but here are some of my recent ones to get us started:

Jon Gwinnett
Not strictly the S&C itself, but great atmosphere I think (he says immodestly): http://youtu.be/e7EhMVdKzOE
RMweb Gold chriswright03 Posted June 9, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 9, 2012 A few from me including pictures of the water tower featured in the Restoration Man programme from More4. Just for the record Charlie didn't 'mark' the monument!
RMweb Premium Physicsman Posted June 9, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 9, 2012 Splendid stuff!! I'll be on the S&C in a month or so and will endeavour to add to this collection. Very, very useful for our S&C layouts!! Jeff
Jon Gwinnett
Interesting spelling on the list of shanty towns - Sabastopol rather than Sebastopol. Wonder if it's a typo or if the shanty went by the odd spelling?
RMweb Gold DaveF Posted June 9, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 9, 2012 To serve as a reminder (and for those who didn't find them ages ago) there are three (very soon to be four) sets of S&C images on my flickr site: Settle and Carlisle part 1, Settle Junction to Ribblehead is a set in my Yorkshire Railway Archive at: http://www.flickr.co...57626316966696/ It also has sets on Skipton to Settle and the Grassington branch). Then: Settle and Carlisle Dent Head to Kirkby Stephen and S&C Kirkby Stehen to Culgaith are both in my North West Railway Archive at: http://www.flickr.co...57626236485270/ In a day or two a further set will appear in along with these covering Armathwaite to Carlisle. Jon Gwinnett
Some sad shots of the demolition (on H&S grounds I believe) of Hangman's Bridge: Apologies for the poorer image quality - these were sent to me by my late father who was still on dial-up internet and had to compress the file sizes! But part of the historic record of the line I guess.

Jon Gwinnett
I hope nobody minds my just banging more and more shots on here - if they get repetitive just let me know! As you can tell, I have a particular affection for KSW, as my parents moved there in 1990. One of my favourite places on the planet. If I had the space, I would model KSW to scale, probably in P4 as my ultimate train set. Unfortunately I don't have the space, so more likely to be Outon Road style finescale OO for now - more on these plans later.
Jon Gwinnett
Some more of Dad's: 19 February 2006. I've no idea how common the stabling of a Thunderbird at KSW was during the west coast drags over the S&C - I wonder if this is the last time the little bay/headshunt was used? RMweb Premium Physicsman Posted June 11, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 11, 2012 Wonderfully atmosperic photos chaps! Thanks for postiing and keep em coming please! Cheers, John E. Yes, I fully endorse John's sentiments! This is a real abundance of riches and an absolute boon to the modeller. Does anyone have photos showing the signalling around Kirkby Stephen West? I've pretty much worked it out but anything additional would be helpful. Having said that, I'll be back up there in a month, so I can see for myself!! Cheers, Jeff

RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted June 11, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 11, 2012 There used to be a tall lattice on the up, before the platforms, certainly there in the 1970s, I think it lasted until the 1990s ?
paul2001
The view from my office The Frame Just a quick note to say all photo's taken during my training period. The Up siding where the Thunderbird is stabled is usually used for tamper stabling and RRV access, the down siding point work got relaid in 2007. RMweb Premium Physicsman Posted June 30, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 30, 2012 Am I jealous? You bet I am. Great place to work! I'll give you a wave when I board my train at Kirkby Stephen in 2 weeks time! Cheers Paul, Jeff
paul2001
No problems Jeff on nights next week so will be there after 5.30. Just to prove my point about the up siding. The current resident. Taken just after I booked off tonight Paul
RMweb Premium macgeordie Posted August 1, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 1, 2012 Some very nice pics there. I took a lot at Kirkby Stephen around 1999-2000 when I was doing the research for my own layout of the ststion. I notice on the pics above that the small concrete building which used to stand at the end of what was oroiginally the cattle dock has now been demolished. A bit sad really as it was part of the history of the station. I'm not sure what it was used for, but it may have been the sawdust store for the cattle dock. 60091
I,ve made a few copies from old 6x4 prints taken mostly on the northern part of the line. The quality isn't wonderful but hopefully they may be of some use...? I haven't bothered captioning them but let me know if anyone wants any extra information. Most date from the late 1980s with a few general lineside views taken for reference when building S+C 1979-83.
Bill Jamieson
There used to be a tall lattice on the up, before the platforms, certainly there in the 1970s, I think it lasted until the 1990s ? Mrkirtley800
Here are a few more pics of the S&C. I got a track pass back in 1967, and here are a few of the (literally) hundreds of photographs I took then and what I have collected over the years. Doesn't seem like 45 years, although they were taken by a cheapo camera in dreadful weather' Anyway, see what you make of them.
