Popular Post neal cooper
This is the N gauge layout that I started after my son Callum decided that O gauge (which I model) was too large for him. He also decided he wanted the working lights, signals and remotely worked points he saw at exhibitions. It was decided to keep it small to see how I got on and give me a realistic chance of finishing it! We got a small board donated to us by a friend which was part of a Wickes hollow door. We decided to use the new Dapol couplers with remote magnetic uncoupling for hands free operation. As it was small enough to travel easily I thought i'd have a stab at making it good enough to make worth taking out. As we're quite pleased with how it's turned out we thought we'd share it.

neal cooper
An excellent layout - are you going to do an article for one of the main magazines? Jon Nice idea Jon! I wasn't going to, but today I got a certificate through the post from the N Gauge Society. I'd entered Horseblock Lane in the Graham Farish trophy (Class I in the Annual Model Making Competition) and it was awarded gold this year! :-) Might just give it a go now.... I got chance to take a few more pictures today.

MikeGibbs
Very nice, with a great attention to those small but important details... I love the footbridge down from the road in the corner of the layout. Is this made from a kit? many thanks
DanielB
Now this is what a shelf layout should look like! Bravo!
sammyboy
This is the kind of small layout I should have built to get me started in N Gauge, not the single board sized double track mainline oval I am currently building and taking ages to do so, I have thrown myself into the deep end lol!

I'm glad you like it! Neal.
neal cooper
Hi, I really like this layout - so atmospheric! How long did it take to make? Are you exhibiting it? Cheers Simon Simon, I'm very pleased you find it atmospheric. I've always thought capturing atmosphere in a model railway is one of the hardest and most intangible things to do, so thank you! It's taken about a year on and off, although having a deadline for the competition got me cracking on with it the last few weeks. We have invites to Stevenage Museum's model railway day on August 10th and The St Albans Model Engineering exhibition on the 28th and 29th September this year. I'm in the process of knocking up an information sheet for exhibition organisers and we're open to offers! Neal.

neal cooper
It's been a long while since I posted here! I've been getting the layout ready for it's first run out at an exhibition this year. Aside from the N Gauge Forum meet at Riddlesdown next weekend (15/02/14) we will be at the Sawbridgeworth show on 15/03/14. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/calendar/event/990-sawbridgeworth-model-railway-exhibition/ I've added a few more photos too. We are hoping to feature in a Railway Modelling magazine sometime this year so watch this space.....

jcm@gwr
Hi Neal, It's good to see the layout is still keeping you occupied, are you at the museum day again this year? I'll lookout for the RM article, I'm sure they'll capture the atmosphere well. I bet Callum will be chuffed to bits to see it in print! neal cooper
Jeff, We won't be at Stevenage Museum this year i'm afraid. It's a busy time of year with school holidays for the kids and both of us working. We will be at the Letchworth show in late November so we haven't foresaken all local shows or anything! I'm keen to see what the article looks like after editing. Worried some of the stock will look a bit 'bog standard' but I didn't know what the photographer would want to take pictures of. I'd do a few things differently if I get a next time, but you can say that a lot in life! Cheers, Neal
sb67
Fantastic layout Neal. I like the right hand end with the stairs leading up to the road. Have you any plans to extend it from that end?
