LNER V1/3 2-6-2 TANK (4)

Well managed to do some with this the last couple of days, but with interruptions and problems with the kit it has been hard to make progress.

It seems that each bit needs thinking about. Maybe once I have the frames done I may find it easier to get enthused in the build.

I have almost finished the footplate, which when done I can start the body, but more over I can check the frames which will need quit a lot of checking.

Niggling things are wrong at each turn, unless I can't make models anymore. The front drop irons were different so the front drop down on one needed cutting off and remaking. The join between the two footplates, is fine You get the drop radius right for the tank, and the drop iron curve is wrong, This should bend thought. The rear one the other side is the right length the one this side is too long.

Back to the frames, I thought I out to make a start with the detailing. Cylinders are the first to be done. The set up for thes is a little odd to be but make them and see how we go. Can anyone spot the difference between them?

I will start new ones on Monday I think.

I then went onto the brakes, the holes in the frames must be 1.5mm, and in the wrong place, but not as far out as the holes thay I presume are for plunger pickups. Which I will not be using. After drilling the new holes and cleaning up all the parts I had no time to do anything so that will be next post.

I think the lack of motivation stems from having 4 locos on the bench and wanting to do the 2 that are for me. I need to finish something, to get the mojo in full flow again. I need something to show for 2 1/2 months work.

Hmm, not like you Pete, you're usually so positive so it must really be getting you down and no wonder judging by the photo of that cylinder. I'm not familiar with this particular loco but comparing the drawing behind and the cylinder from the kit it's p*ssed as a puddin' how can someone, using the accuracy of computer design get it so wrong and then have the gall to market it.

Keep your chin up mate, keep plodding, one step at a time and you'll get there. There's always better times ahead!

Hi Pete, sounds annoying. If only it was just a "basic" kit you could add details yourself, but kits that aren't properly done are worse than nothing.

Hi Pete, Had a go at a ACE loco it was a A2 Peppercorn, in the end I gave up everything needed extra work on it, William the owner of ACE is quite helpful but it does not help all the messing about. At the moment I am doing a ACME A4 quite interesting. But your kit is looking good keep at it, Are you in a club I am in the Gauge O Guild which is quite helpful.

Thanks Roly

It is probably due to other things going on in our lives that we have no control over, but when solved the enthusiasm will return. It will be done, never had one beat me yet.

Hi Mikkel

I think that it probably an old poorly hand drawn kit. with bits added to try and correct some of the errors. Where probably starting again would of been better. Some bits are quite good. but others need rethinking. The trouble with Ace kits they are from all over the place. He now has some of the Meteor range I have built a couple of those although basic they give a good foundation. There are a couple of Sansperil kits too, these are very good.

Hi Ray

As above the kits are a mixed bag. I probably would have just got on without the complaints if I were in my usual frame of mind. I have never had a kit yet that I have not finished once started. Even if like the DJH 4mm SR S15 I built where the only bit of the kit left on the model was the top of the tender and some of the bogies. A much modified boiler, firebox, smokebox casting. the rest was scratch built. I also belong to the GOG, which I do like as it keeps me upto date with what is available in the market place. As for clubs I have never been a member of one even when I lived in the UK. I went to one or two but at the ones I went to see there was a lack of modeling. Or my type of modelling.

Would you want to be a member of any club that would have you as a member?
