  1. Bad news for the hobby already this year. I can only add my personal situation / thoughts. I'm perhaps one of the younger people into the hobby though not too young at 41 🤣 I came back to model trains during lockdown making a garden oo layout. Since I have collected quite a bit or stock..But near all of it aside an efe 58 and a gifted Dapol bubble has been secondhand, Including buying joblots of flexitrack on the bay . The mrs and I earn decently enough but I couldn't spend the kind of money needed for new stock, dcc, sound...and in regards to used models, the prices of Hatton rails etc have always been a joke..100 plus for a rotted Hornby 31 with bits falling off? I've always bought from private sellers rather than stores. I do rummage in my local surviving train shops used boxes. Again only my view, but the hobby has priced itself for the wealthier older generation and perhaps its beginning to show
  2. Hi everyone, looking for one if these to finish my RR rake. (The newer weathered release with passengers are painted such different colours to the older Bachmann regional stock its annoyingly noticeable) Thanks!
  3. My budgeted modelling means my Ped fleet consists of (the still excellently tooled / moulded for its age) lima 31, with detailing, roof fans etc and most with drivetrains picked from Hornby mazak carcasses. (I was never enamoured with the Hornby for the price) ...but damn these are tempting, especially with the excellent customer service I've experienced with accurascale regarding spare bits for my wagons. Intercity/ mainline, 31110 in railfreight so I can do 108 with ploughs and a nuclear coal sector ped please!
  4. Thanks guys! I think the grimyness of them made it harder to determine the actual colour. I just dug one out I made years ago, not sure what colour I used but with copious frame and roof dirt it matches the Hornby CAR brake van. I have two more to make though (Although after spending a good while waiting for cheap / badly painted HEAS to turn up, I see the 3d printed ones now available on ebay )
  5. A dry weekend for playing trains outside! Bone on an MGR, some background items may be overscale
  6. Hi everyone, just looking for confirmation for the colour scheme on the RNA wagons in coal sector livery. Were they railfreight grey with yellow ends or olive like one or two of the uncut former HEA's? (Im colourblind which doesnt help with looking at paul bartletts site! lol I cant find written confirmation) Thanks
  7. it seems more and more questionable as to why the model railway community is still willing to pay so much money for Hornbys chinesium trains. Is it the british heritage? the nostalgia? Not just the quality issues, they seem to have complete contempt for their existing customers. Accurascale etc prove qaulity products can come out of china (despite my misgivings about ccp products in general) but Hornby are clearly cheaping out even with chinese suppliers. no way is this model worth 500+
  8. I grew up around Barry so Class 37's on HAA's made me captivated with trains. Whether watching activity at Barry station and depot, watching from the overbridge at Aberthaw, or hearing the tractors thunder past at night. My aunt lived near Taff merthyr with her garden backing the railway line too. I now live in the midlands, not far from stourbridge station and once or twice have heard that distinctive noise at night, perhaps colas' class 37's or such and it was quite nostalgic.
  9. Small bargain purchase. Hornby HAA and a Bachmann HEA for £4.50 each. The listings probably had most thinking it was just the real coal loads for sale. Happy with the hea especially as even the old replica/Dapol wagons seem to be over 20 quid lately
  10. True! I was tempted to ask if they'd made a mistske with the listing price or had a trollish sense of humour with that one haha
  11. Thing is I've bought two later Hornby super detail 31's for less than the crumbling ones lately? lol
  12. At least like all the other tat its 'boxed' though!
  13. 'This locomotive is in excellent condition and DCC fitted. Boxed' Its annoying seeing how many ebay sellers are trying to fob off knackered Hornby 31's as good condition for £100 or over. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-class-31-Dutch-livery-/175146338816?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0
  14. I know they were limited edition and the livery application is arguably nicer than bachmanns current weathered Regional Mk2s but these seem very pricey https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353896330490?hash=item5265dd74fa:g:fZQAAOSw2KRh~~Lh
