  1. No Bachmann are right. Mk2d had red. Mk2e and Mk2f had putty colour
  2. From yesterday: 1N08 was the 09:00 KX-Newcastle 6S45 was the 02:35MTF Hoo Jcn / 02:30WThS Cliffe to Uddington J6327 from the formation was the 10:45 KX-Harrogate J6330 would have been 5D30 or 5L30 ECS Ferme Park to MO Doncaster / MX York From today: 1C64 was the 14:50 Nottingham-St Pancras
  3. 1A09 was the 08:48 York-KX. The train has an additional BSO marshalled in the formation 2nd coach. 1D04 was the 12:20 KX-Cleethorpes J5615 from the formation was the 08:35 Hull-KX J5616 from the formation was the 08:30 Newcastle-KX
  4. At Gamston: 1E05 was the 10:00 Edinburgh-KX The Flying Scotsman J3651should therefore be the 12:00 KX-Aberdeen - The Aberdonian (I think you can just make out the personalised red carriage door labels) At Swayfield: 1L33 was the 16:05SO KX-Harrogate - The Yorkshire Pullman At Corby Glen: J038 From the formation - possibly the 12:40 Hull-KX At High Dyke: 1A07 was the 07:25 Newcastle-KX
  5. On page 81 of this thread under post #2018 from 22/1/2015 - photo C705 has the same train in full view. The class 40 has a class 2 code disc displayed, so it would be The Highwayman whose reporting code was 2N45. The 2 leading SK (the maroon one and the blue grey one on BR1 bogies are extra coaches to the usual 8 coaches 3SK, BSO, RB(Thompson), 3SK - the Mk1s all having Commonwealth bogies. I suspect the problem with the concept was that it extracted full fare customers from other services.
  6. J2760 The class 40 was hauling the 15:00SO Finsbury Park-Newcastle - The Highwayman (you have another photo of the complete train which has been posted previously) and the Deltic was on the 12:00 Edinburgh-KX.
  7. It seems odd to substitute a Thompson FO (42 seats) for a twin first (44 seats). Although it would save the weight of 1 coach I suppose!
  8. Have the sides of the Bachmann TSO at the end nearest the camera lifted up from the underframe? Possibly the self tapping screw through the underframe has not engaged with the interior moulding (which holds the sides down). As for the train I reckon the Master Cutler (I seem to remember you mentioning it when you bought the Gresley RF and Thompson coaches!).
  9. That might have applied to Kings Cross old platforms 12 to 15 too.
  10. To the best of knowledge the last down non-gangway services north of Hitchin were in the 1970/71 TT 17:43 KX-Peterborough and in the 1971/72 TT 18:09 KX-Huntingdon (and there would have been corresponding up services in the morning). Headcode was 2B43 with standard 6 coach formation SLO, SLO, CL, BS, CL, SLO.
  11. For yesterdays photos: 1S17 was the 10:00 KX-Edinburgh - The Flying Scotsman 1A16 was the 09:48 Harrogate-KX - The Yorkshire Pullman (with 2 Pullmans it is the Saturday train) 1A13 was the 08:50SO Newcastle-KX 1E11 was the 09:00 Aberdeen-KX J4126 the formation matches the 13:00SuO KX-Edinburgh. If it's not Sunday then possibly the 13:50FO KX-Newcastle which matches other than the final BSK. There weren't that many vacuum braked sets on the ECML in regular use in the winter months by 1974!
  12. 1G61 taken at Hitchin with D0280 would have been the 15:15SO KX-Sheffield. The 19:20 Master Cutler Pullman was SX.
  13. 1L20 was the 14:20 KX-Leeds C1615 from the formation and the sun from the east, was likely to be the 09:00 Hull-KX 1A32 was the 17:00 Newcastle-KX 1A14 was the 09:30SX Leeds-KX (with rear 3 coach portion starting 08:30 from Halifax) or 08:53SO Bradford-KX (rear 3 coaches 08:41 from Halifax). This set formed 1L20 as above, but as can be seen has been upgraded from Mk2a to Mk2d coaches by Dec 74.
  14. Thank you from me too, Tony (and of course to Mo). I really had a marvellous time the whole day.
  15. 1A22 was the 10:55 Newcastle - KX 4M22 was the 12:25 (or thereabouts) Peterborough Parcels Terminal - Crewe J5058 from the formation was the 12:20 KX - Cleethorpes 1A21 was the 11:55 Bradford - KX (interestingly the loco is still showing a headcode after these were abandoned from the 1st Jan 76)
  16. Brian, according to the Kevin Robertson Blue Pullman book on p57 the Midland Pullman had a staff of 14 which didn't include the driver, second driver, guard and fitter. 4 of the 14 would be 2 chefs and 2 assistance chefs.
  17. The Carriage Workings show them as SLBSK with 8 berths. To get 8 berths into 2 compartments (as stated in Harris) would mean 2 sets of twin berths in 2 of the compartments. I would have thought that would have caused problems with the upper berths across the compartment windows, and it was noted in Railway Observer that there were no external modifications seen. I think it is more likely that the 8 berths would have been across 4 compartments, however unless a photograph or diagram comes to light we won't know one way or the other for sure.
  18. 1C76 was the 15:50 Derby-St Pancras. The 7 coach formation suggests the Saturday train (on SX there should be 2 extra coaches) 1M79 was the 15:00 Sheffield-St Pancras (via the Erewash Valley direct route at this date)
  19. I would think that the abandoned tunnel is a leftover from when the Victoria Line was built. To allow cross platform interchange at Highbury & Islington between the Northern & City and Victoria lines, new link tunnels had to be built. Southbound Victoria line trains would use the old northbound Northern & City platform and northbound Northern & City trains would have a new platform together with a new northbound Victoria line platform. The abandoned tunnel would be the original Northern & City line northbound tunnel where it joined the link line from the new platform.
  20. Yes, the train would be 1A14 the 08:55 Bradford-KX with a 3 coach (4 on Fridays) Halifax portion at the rear dep. 08:40. Interestingly the 1975/6 ECML Carriage workings show an RMB as the catering vehicle. The RG (E1102) was shown in the formation of the 10:20 KX-Leeds and 15:30 return. Changes to the formations must have been made between May and October.
  21. Train ID correction on J2121. Although the reporting number is unclear, it should be 1A15 09:10 Newcastle-KX The Tees-Tyne Pullman. The 6th coach is Griddle Car E1102 which was added to the train at the beginning of the year. The 4 Pullman cars in the formation indicate the Friday train. Monday to Thursday would have 5 cars. (In May 1970 the Yorkshire Pullman was still an all Pullman train).
  22. Hi Rob, the Thompson coach was a FK with ladies retiring room (identified by the 2 small windows next to the oval toilet window). The coach was listed in the carriage working.
  23. C1003 from the formation was the 09:25 Leeds-KX 1A35 was the 10:00 Edinburgh-KX (last 2 coaches start 6:10 from Aberdeen) - The Flying Scotsman J4088 from the formation and being class 47 hauled was probably the 13:00 KX-Edinburgh C1259 was probably the 07:55 KX-Bradford (if that fits in with the time taken?)
  24. The exhaust trails on the roof suggest a motor car rather than a trailer. From the groups of paired roof vents I would say possibly a Gloucester RCW Class 100 Motor Brake Second.
  25. Tony, 1L09 was the 10:20 KX-Leeds (or could be 10:10SuO KX-Bradford) 1A08 was the 08:30 Leeds-KX Hope this assists
