East Depot Main Line - closed 11/1/1960, replaced by a 'plywood wonder', itself abolished 20/7/1970.

Agree with you Tony. I took my layout to three Warners shows, not the usual show to take my layout (Clutton) to, but all were good in their own way. Perhaps Ally Pally stands out, we were in the 'scale' hall. Taking the layout away for the weekend with some mates, a curry on the Saturday night and a few beers was always enjoyable. I never charged to take the layout to any show, but I did expect the van hire and accommodation to be covered. I think some exhibitors must charge - or maybe exaggerate their expenses, else how on earth do they go to shows week in and out? As for the Bristol show, I haven't been for some years, although I live nearby. The quality of the layouts was disappointing, I went to one show at the Watershed, walked out after 20 minutes. The standard was much better at the Victoria Rooms. I was never asked to take my layout to Thornbury, had I been asked, I would have turned it down. I remember the late Geoff Endecott saying that he couldn't understand why Thornbury could pull in a lot of visitors, while his show didn't get anywhere like those numbers. Maybe Warners taking on the show will be a good thing.

Coincidentally, I've just scanned this picture of Winchcombe from 2002, followed by the same place pre-preservation in 1980.- 271 replies

How do you make a small fortune selling model railway stuff? Start with a large fortune. -
Point rodding and signal wires
Tim V replied to bordercollie's topic in Permanent Way, Signalling & Infrastructure
Ffestiniog was a very interesting place, the box had been closed for some years, all the pointwork had been removed, but everything else was still there. -

Square rodding introduced 1932 according to an official blueprint in my possession. Of interest - as Mike has mentioned it, here is the round rodding at Blue Anchor in 1975. Captain Kernow holding the Up starter off! -
Winchcombe in 2002, interior was on page 13 of this thread. This box is a replica, a picture of the Winchcombe site in 1980 - note no box (and no station)!

Just checked Street View and this gorgeous cabin at Minety has been replaced by a featureless portacabin. Copyright forbids me from posting the after picture, but here is a link. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.6252637,-1.9802649,3a,66.9y,6.38h,84.94t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s8Xy5KzWh_5mXO0vsDjJNUw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en I can say that the flower baskets seem to be common to both cabins.

Hot off the scanner, Colthrop Crossing and a manned gate crossing (not a signal box) at Minety - 1999.

Yes, it's non operational, but there are plenty of other closed boxes in this thread.

GMT, BST, EST? I thought RMweb had a global presence (in the English speaking world)?

When was smoking banned on British trains?
Tim V replied to Jim Martin's topic in UK Prototype Questions
When smoking was banned on London Underground (now TFL), one got used to avoiding the former 'smoking' coach - it stank. Victoria Line circa 1984 I think. -
DS10 - very high revving motor - still it's probably 30 years newer than the loco body ...

The Model Engineer shows have already been mentioned, held at Wembley Arena (C1980), later Ally Pally then at Earls Court. Certainly multi disciplinary. I remember Studiolith was there (for non P4 modellers, that was a supplier) among the model suppliers, plus a number of model layouts. As the years went on, the small scale model railway layouts and traders became less and less. But the show was still good for tools/airbrushing equipment.
