jazz
Finally got the kitchen finished and also had a couple of hours on the WB yesterday. Now it's onwards with the Ford railcars. I love these little beasts. Here is the chassis built yesterday and a photo of my own on the old layout.
jazz
Onwards with the railcar. The first photo shows how it should turn out. Note the 'buffer' beam is quite high on this with road headlights fitted. Some did have the beam very low in front of the wheels and some no beam at all. This it it so far. 8

Thank you Ken, somewhere in my mind I seem to think I saw another 7mm brass kit on the Alphagraphix stand at the Bristol show together with brass coach kits too which made me ask. I'm aware that they produce card models so it made me look twice ! G
jazz
Needing a fair bit of cleaning up with the visible solder, that's the first car built. Now making a start on the sister car. 6

jazz
Hi all. I've been nibbling away at the WB bench recently. A start made on the FourTrack models Small boilers Klondyke 'Henry Oakley'. I have to say we are ready to have a 'get-a-way' very soon. The novelty is now becoming very tedious as I'm sure it is for all of us. .
jazz
Todays progress was a bit slow, etches needed some filing and small alterations to get a good enough fit. Some exploded diagrams would have been helpful with this kit. Not mention a line drawing of the loco. 8
jazz
Hi. I've just discovered the tender is Fourtrack Models which was OK to build. The loco itself is a Modellers World effort and is terrible. Struggling to get it the body to go together big time.

jazz
I've made a bit of slow progress over the past couple of days. (Ive slow the building down quite a bit due to lockdown and unable to travel for the delivery of finished locos) Here is the Klondyke so far. With quite a bit of butchering and additions. I will draw up a list of the additions and corrections in due course. 13
jazz
Pleased to say I've got the Klondyke primed and chassis painted black today. Tomorrow the loco chassis to be motorised and and finally get the wheels on. OOPS, just notices a small blob of solder above the buffer. Will remove that tomorrow too. Just to prove that you are human. It always amazes me what a coat of primer can reveal. Thoroughly enjoying your builds - please keep up the good work. Popular Post jazz
Does me too. That's why I never send the models out in bare metal, there is usually some little thing one misses. Anyway, here she is ready for the off. 16
jazz
Here we go with another ancient kit. This one is the Shedmaster Johnson 2-4-0 1400 Class. A very basic kit with quite a few etches not provided which forced some scratch building. Perhaps the most basic instruction sheets I have seen seen in quite a while, so they were consigned to the box. The worked off photos in by books and web. The turned spacers were also 2.5mm too narrow, so a set were made from sheet brass. Here is the tender ready for priming. But will wait until the loco is built so I can add the draw bar arrangement. Nothing provided for that al all. Edited June 9, 2020 by jazz
jazz
Well this is a right one to build. Impossible to build it as per instructions so spent some time how to go about it. For example after soldering on the valances you were then told to attach the cab front to the footplate. Impossible as it sat at the on top of the splashers. So one had to find an accurate datum to start the body work. And so it continued having to figure out how to proceed. All bt done now, just carry on scratch building the parts not supplied. 7
jazz
Thankfully that Johnson 2-4-0 is now finished. Stuffed loads of weight between the drivers as the front pony wheels are free to spring up and down. (The kit did have them fixed, totally unsuitable design.) A number of small details have been scratch built. the pony wheel axle boxes. the ejector below the chimney for instance, plus a fair amount of the sheet work. The next kit is a Klondyke C1. Looking at the kit it looks as if it has had a make over (fingers crossed). I think all the castings that will be needed are supplied in the kit on this one. I will start on that next week as I want to complete the miniature lights on my layout first. I have already completed some rewiring during this rather slow build. Here are the loco photos. Edited June 17, 2020 by jazz Referred to the wrong loco. 7
