RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted May 17, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 17, 2021 (edited) Yet more images of miniature carpentry madness to bore you with, (although I'm sure Al will find it exciting) All the decking has been removed from the tape and put in a handy ham container. The next batch of platform supports are made. These incorporate longer parts to mount the fencing on. A start has been made on the next batch too. These are for the top of the embankment, so I designed them to poke into the foam topography. Like this... Some quick snaps I took of the viaduct... Bradford end junction... ...and Brow lane over bridge. Lastly It's about time we had a train. K3 4006 Whitby bound, at speed, with a solitary steel bogie parcels van. Squatch. RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted May 18, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 18, 2021 (edited) Having finished most of the assembly last night these got painted this morning. The paint is a watery mix of raw umber and dark burnt umber. The assembled trestles are then dunked in a bath of the mix... ...and laid out on kitchen towel for about a minute before turning over. Here's one placed on the layout. Further weathering must be applied but only after they have been fixed in place. I'm pretty handy with the micro post hole digger too! Using a couple of spacers all these have been set the same distance apart between the rear posts and glued down with the non-toxic super glue. Lastly I made some mud from Woodland Scenics sculpt-a-mold with added acrylic dark burnt umber and yellow ochre. This was spread carefully between all the posts where needed. I got lucky with the colour. It looks like a good match! Squatch. 17

RMweb Premium Popular Post Sasquatch Posted May 22, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 22, 2021 (edited) First then a picture of the real thing. The best I can come up with of the Halifax-Keighley platforms, it's been cropped from a larger picture taken from above Queensbury tunnel. Work carried out this afternoon included painting glue about all those trestles and sprinkling various flockages on. The longitudinal beams have been affixed in pairs as is standard with this type of construction to the Keighley-Halifax platform side. Sorry picture's a bit blurry. That done I couldn't resist running a train... ...and photographing it. The last image really captures the essence of the so coined "Alpine Route" don't ya think??? Squatch. Congratulations on your selection of longitudinal timbers which match the wandering levels of the support timbers perfectly..... It's so good, I was convinced for a long time , that both the supports and timbers were... well.... level..... Silly me, I must apologise for my wishful thinking and failing eyesight, which told me that those platform timbers may have been placed by someone quite experienced in accurate fitting of wood structures. Specsavers appointment is imminent..... provided that i can manage to find their doorway. Now off to fumble my way round the walls and doorways, to see if I can manage to get to the kitchen and the fridge to obtain some calming refreshment, to calm the shock of eyesight failure. 1 3

It would seem that the endless hours spent stretching across the layout with mini levels, calipers and plumb bobs etc. has not escaped top scrutinization and I'm now worried if the work is up to code and will thus fail inspection! While you're at your eye appointment would you be so kind as to pick me up a couple of pairs of +2s. I've put both mine down somewhere and blowed if I can see where! Hope that the bold type helps. Thanks for the thoughts on the eyesight, just moved up from the headset with the 4x to the 8x lenses, but still can't quite spot the out-of-true platform tops. I'm currently looking to discover if the new Starscope might help..... What I did spot were the Sleeper loads in those wagons, not often modelled and very good looking, particularly as they were parsley covered in some weathered greenstuff.

RMweb Gold ChrisN Posted May 24, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 24, 2021 Where is the 'cry' button when you need it. You have only just got it down and along comes the dear Doctor. Do like your rose bay willow herb in the background. I showed the picture of the signal box to my wife and asked her what was on the bank behind, she said, "Flowers." I said, "what type?" "Rose bay willow herbs." Looks like a success to me. 4
